It appears that the $144M grant may be congressionally mandated. Not sure whether the transferred functions are explicitly required by law. But there’s something to be said for inconveniencing the bureaucrats as an end unto itself, and perhaps positions will be eliminated.
Maddeningly, the official USDoEd announcement uses commie-speak — “$144 million investment by the Trump Administration to help states expand proven interventions that support students with disabilities.” It’s not an investment, it’s an expenditure.

Moving these functions out of “education” and into “justice” and “health services” actually seems rational to me. And, at this point, neither of the two departments are as intently woke as DOE (or at least Trump is putting pressure on them to be less woke).
I think moving these functions out of DOE helps make it easier to kill the DOE in the end.

If you install a forced reset trigger, and manipulate the trigger just the right way, you can produce a reasonable facsimile of full-auto fire.
That’s the upside. The downside is that they break quite a bit. Also, they’re expensive, both the initial purchase and keeping them fed. Third, handheld full-auto is kind of a dork move anyway. Fun for shooting trash in the desert, but not real useful for serious porpoises.

I’m sure there’s been an arrest or two with this shit. There’s also been some woefully stupid miscues and it’s part of what I was thinking about with my own response below.
Cops are using it as a substitute for just normal investigation and common sense. There’s no countering all this bullshit and you’ll drive yourself crazy trying.
If you have a government ID, which we all do, your face is already in those databases. If you played Pokemon Go you’ve spent years helping them develop AI without knowing it. The company who developed it sold the entire game and just went all in on AI at this point and that shit should be a bigger story but isn’t.
I see people who think they’re being savvy avoiding the bullshit “loyalty” programs and in the end they’re just paying the stores more money. Unless you pay cash for anything and everything but even now they’re probably scraping your phone and starting to or already have used AI to track your visits to the store in other ways.
Like the battle is already lost for privacy. Not the world we live in.
A lot of data gets collected. I’m not sure that anyone from the private tech companies to the government really knows what the fuck to do with it.
