Belgium’s prime minister was a little surprised on landing back home from Wednesday’s NATO summit in Turkey to find that he had a handgun and ammunition in his luggage.
After NATO leaders gathered for Wednesday’s fractious summit in Ankara, their host, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, handed each an unusual parting gift: a vintage revolver, along with live ammunition indicating it was not just for show.
Erdogan wanted to showcase Turkey’s defence industry, which has become a key export and foreign policy tool.
Images shared by the office of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda showed what appeared to be the Gumusay .357 Magnum, a rare six-shooter produced by Turkish arms maker MKE in the 1990s.
It was set in a wooden display box featuring Turkey’s flag and the NATO logo as well as a placard inscribed “Gumusay, the first revolver-type handgun produced in our country” in Turkish and English.
“Certainly no one will be shooting it,” he added.
The offices of the Dutch and Swedish prime ministers said their revolvers had been take to their respective embassies in Ankara. The Dutch one was due to be disabled while the Swedish one was awaiting import paperwork.
The gun given to Britain’s Keir Starmer came with a cleaning kit and 500 bullets, a Downing Street source said.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s revolver was already stored at the seat of government, the Palazzo Chigi, along with other state gifts.
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was intending to donate hers to a military museum.

lame and gay. fire the damn things.
Usually when that happens someone is suggesting you make use of it on yourself.
That contradicts the next sentence, which says it was handed to him.
And how insufferably gay is it for the Dutch to disable theirs.
That would be a single cartridge, not a half case.
Sheldon – my presumption is that Europoor Elites are such bad shots that they need half a case to actually score a hit at that range.
He was surprised because he expected his servant to put the gun in a diplomatic pouch not his wardrobe.
The best handgun shooter in the world is a Frenchman.
I don’t think cyborgs qualify as Frenchmen.

@Sheldon – what public office does he hold?
The best handgun shooter in the world is Romanian but he does not like to show off in public.
Too many competitions are held in full sunlight?
None that I’m aware of. His father is the French national team shooting coach.

@Sheldon – There’s a reason I distinguished between the Europoor Elites for whom I have endless distain, and regular Europeans.
Sheldon – my presumption is that Europoor Elites are such bad shots that they need half a case to actually score a hit at that range.
So, like cops?
@UnCiv – Eric isn’t a public official, but his family is wealthy and connected in the French government. He’s absolutely one of the elites, even over and above his shooting skills.
The overarching point being, don’t look down on European shooters. A lot of Euros own guns, and some of them are really good with them. In fact, I’d bet a moderately-priced bottle of booze that Europe has a higher percentage of M/GM-level shooters per capita than the US does.
can we not quibble about who is or isn’t an elite and just dislike the french?
Case in point, many EU countries have better firearm laws than, say, New York state. Italy and France both have decent laws, Germany isn’t too bad (but is Germany, so shitloads of paperwork) and so on.
The issue is mostly one of not having a history of gun culture in many of the countries, so it isn’t seen as a pressing issue for many of them.
Eric Grauffel is so much better than anyone else I’ve witness. But AFAIK, nobody in the US has an actual job where they’re paid to shoot. Admittedly, if Max Michel isn’t shooting as much as Eric, that’s on him, but if I understand correctly, CZ pays him for range time.
Case in point, many EU countries have better firearm laws than, say, New York state.
That’s a low bar.
The issue is mostly one of not having a history of gun culture in many of the countries
On Euro gun culture, another book I recently finished is “Gun Culture in Early Modern England”. I found it fascinating.
This is where you misunderstand me.
I’m looking down on the Belgian Prime Minister.
The French are pretty cool as a whole. Parisian French, on the other hand…
SO SCARY
Turkish Python knockoff. Qu’elle suprise.
Is that better or worse than a German 1911 knockoff?
There are some Turkshit firearms that run really well. Some of their MP5 clones are nearly indistinguishable from the German originals. I have a Tisas 2011 that I have about 3000 rounds through with no problems (although I did put a new trigger in it.)
Don’t know about this particular revolver though.
Quality-wise? Probably worse. There are some modern Turkish knockoff makers making excellent product these days though.
If you want a high-quality Turkish knock off of a German gun made in the USA, the Canik Prime is getting rave reviews.
There are some absolutely beautiful Turkish double barrel shotguns, Huglu springs immediately to mind. Their arms industry has been active for a long time, and has had many years to remove teething problems on older designs.
Turkish Python knockoff.
Scratch the Winchester connection.
Is it really that unusual of a gift?
I feel like gifts of arms and armor used to be de rigueur between national leaders at some points in not-too-distant history.
It seems it still is, in certain parts of the world at least. Just not EUropa.
The Trump team should have given they Turkish President some Zildjians as a cymbal of US-Turkish friendship. Then watch the press crash out over it.
Lame and Gay is kind of the universal description of Europols isn’t it? I’m surprised they didn’t all die of the vapors receiving guns.
It was set in a wooden display box featuring Turkey’s flag and the NATO logo as well as a placard inscribed “Gumusay, the first revolver-type handgun produced in our country” in Turkish and English.
I’m looking through MKE’s website. I don’t see any revolvers.
I’m reading Helios House Press’ ARMAX reprints. I just finished Vol IV No 1 which includes a survey of known Winchester revolvers. They were all prototypes and pre-production samples. The later ones were probably done to prove out machinery for the Ottoman Empire to make revolvers. I wonder if these gifts are related to that Winchester machinery.

Oregon Ranch For Sale – Powwatka Ranch
Looking for an Oregon Ranch For Sale? In the Nez Perce language, “Powwatka” translates to “high, cleared ground, from where a view could be had” – a fitting description for this premier hunting and recreation ranch, marked by broad open meadows offering expansive views of the surrounding Blue Mountains. Powwatka Ridge, a substantial timbered ridge running north and south through the property, is a dominant feature of the ranch. Located in northeastern Oregon’s Wallowa County, the ranch lies 25 miles (about an hour’s drive) north of the town of Wallowa, 45 miles northwest of the county seat of Enterprise, and two hours southwest of the city of Lewiston, Idaho and its commercial airport. With an extensive national forest boundary, the ranch stretches nearly 10 miles north to south and spans 9,457± deeded acres, including approximately 650 acres of meadows, 4,000± acres of canyonlands and creek bottoms, and 4,800± acres of timbered uplands.
The ranch is highlighted by diverse water resources throughout the property. It features over six miles of live water, including over a mile and a half of frontage on the legendary Grande Ronde River, three miles of Mud Creek, over a mile of Wildcat Creek, and three-quarters of a mile of Buck Creek. The Grande Ronde forms most of the ranch’s northern boundary and supports a highly regarded fishery for steelhead, rainbow trout, and smallmouth bass. Numerous springs and ponds spread across the ranch, providing reliable year-round water for wildlife and cattle.

2 in 3 British adults (69%) would support a law that requires social media companies to use age-verification tools to ban children under the age of 16 from accessing their platforms in the UK, and 3 in 5 (61%) support social media curfews / hour restrictions for 16- and 17-year-olds
Support for a law requiring social media companies to use age-verification tools to ban under-16s from platforms drops of 50% if it means everyone in the UK would be required to upload an ID or credit card to verify their age. This holds if ID verification is held by individual social media platforms (50%) or by the device owners, such as Apple or Android / Google (51%).
Nearly 3 in 4 adults anticipate a positive impact on reducing children’s screen usage and on limiting their exposure to online harms if a ban is introduced (74% each).

Reckless Ben is back!
This story is perfect. And absurd. Which makes it even more perfect.
A huge controversy that is based on…. Lego toys. And not just any Lego toys, but specifically Star Wars collectable Lego sets and minifigures.
Absurd.
And it has captivated the legal side of the internet.
What started as a simple contract dispute grew to include a potential scheme to defraud franchisees (something that is apparently a big problem, a scam of sorts called Franchise churn), and from there really spun out into a massive scandal of police corruption and all the way to a court violating one of the bedrock principles of US constitutional law, issuing EX Parte orders taking down all of Reckless Ben’s videos on the topic (huge constitutional violation) and worse – blocking him from publishing his already finished documentary – prior restraint. Remember the Pentagon Papers?? Something that is not just in 1st year law classes, but they made movies about it. Yeah, this judge went there.
This is Trey Parker and Matt Stone material. In fact, if South Park took on the corrupt intersection of corporate greed and police power and the perversion of the legal system, daresay they would have struggled to come up with a better absurdist parody than grounding it in Star Wars Lego toys and with a YouTube skate rat anti-hero.
And yet, this is real life.
And he just won a small victory in court. The court lifted its order blocking his free speech. So he is out with an update. And it reveals even more insanity as we see a second police force (Provo Utah) openly conspire to gin up false charges (thank you body cameras!). He has audio from a court hearing where the prosecutor bringing *felony* charges has not even looked at the evidence. At all. And seemingly has no intention of doing so.
But wait! There’s more!!!
Ya know how people call you crazy and paranoid because you are suspicious of big tech and their cozy relationship with government???? Well….
They sent a secret subpoena to Google. Who fought in court and then turned over a limited scope of messages…. Nah!! Who am I kidding??
Google sent them everything they had on Reckless Ben. Not just name, address, phone number…. All of his email. (!) All. All of his files backed up on his Google drive. All(!). All of the raw footage from all of his videos. Everything they have on him
His search history. All the Metadata.
This over a completely false trespass allegation.
Seriously. That is what the police had: a corporate officer (the literal mustache twirling villain of this saga – watch the video) lied about a brief conversation he voluntarily had in the hallway outside his corporate offices (it is all on video), and Google handed over *everything they know about this guy, including all of his private documents*.
!!!!!!!!
Yeah. It is stupid. It is just some YouTube guy and some toys.
But holy crap! This thing hits every issue. And it is way worse than you thought.
https://youtu.be/auf_-bVs2WA?
I wish somebody were doing this in text form.
Yeah.. certainly quicker. But so much more fun to see their actual faces intercut between what they say to police and what they say on video.
“They refused to leave, and after we told them we were calling the police, they threatened to burn the building down and shoot everyone”
…. cut to video where he asks them to leave and they simply leave without issuing any such threat.
Amen to that!
Gem of a moment on that topic from court.
Prosecutor details that charge. Reckless Ben, representing himself asks if the prosecutor has watched the video, because it completely contradicts the officer’s sworn statement.
Some discussion about “did you provide the video to police” follows
Some questions from the prosecutor about “does it include what happened before, and does it cover until after you leave…
And when assured that it is an uncut video from before they arrive on the floor of the Bricks and Minifigs offices until after they leave and the elevator closes – the prosecutor argues that…
“Video doesnt always capture everything that happens”.
So, yeah. That happened.
In court.
Where “beyond a reasonable doubt” is the standard, “ironclad proof of innocence” isnt enough to get charges withdrawn.
We just wont look at your proof.
“La-la-la-la I cant hear you!”
You didnt count on that theory of law.
Actually, I think we all count on the FYTW theory, so this isn’t a stretch by any means.
TLDR executive summary
* Prior Restraint
* false felony charges
* police subpoena google
* Google turns over all email
* Google files
* Search history
* zero bail arrest warrants
* SWAT raids
* warrantless arrests
* illegal searches

Guilty.
It is a long saga.
Base story.
A guy put up $200k worth of Lego for consignment at a Bricks and Minifigs store.
The corporate office took over the franchise and refused to acknowledge the consignement contract, telling him to kick rocks.
After a year, a youtuber gets involved. Reckless Ben does some stunts to draw attention, trying to help this old guy who is dying of cancer recover his money.
Corporation digs in and tries a strategy of manufacturing criminal charges against the youtuber in order to silence him.
2 police departments, prosecutors and a court make egregious violations of constitutional law in support of the corporation, who seem determined to steal this money.
All documented with humor, on video.
But super-serious issues are involved.

https://youtu.be/OQ9hthwnDg8?

He digs in to the claims the corporation makes.
This covers the base controversy, not the mich larger police/prosecutor/judge corruption scandal that follows.
https://youtu.be/VKfQkRbd15k?
I can watch the commentary, but watching the raw footage makes my blood pressure and urge to kill spike to dangerous levels.
I like the body camera footage where the cops are talking to eachother and mention a third guy, ‘remember him, the guy we did hydros with? Oh shouldnt have said that on camera’.
And nothing else happened.
I’m waiting for the movie rights to be sold. I mean, if Roofman, the Big Short, and Dumb Money could all become entertaining movies, I figure this will be a layup.

I’m glad to see Costco values the advantages of long term workers. He also chose his lifestyle wisely. Good for both of them.
Barzar’s pay and benefits reflect his value to the company. He earns $32.90 an hour, and the holdings in his 401(k) have boosted his retirement savings to over $1 million, he said. His Costco-sponsored healthcare has a regular visit co-pay of $15, and a specialty visit co-pay of $25, well below the national average. In 2009, Barzar’s family bought a three-bedroom, two-bath house with a pool, and they have been able to travel to Europe twice over the past decade…
He also stayed because of the pay and benefits, he said. That became acute early last year when his son-in-law ended his life, then months later his wife of 26 years, a former Costco employee in the bakery department, was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer. His Costco health insurance covered the full cost of his wife’s three brain surgeries. Barzar took paid leave for nearly a year to help his family. He also used the retailer’s therapy benefits to cope, he said, which further drove home how comprehensive the insurance was.

I also had “Studio Release” and “Uncensored” versions of Orgazmo. The added footage in Team America is a bit more… disturbing.

“According to a video from the June 27 Trinity Pride Fest in downtown Fort Worth, Christian street preachers David Grisham, a retired police officer, and Richard Penkoski were preaching on public property when they were approached by officers.
Police had set up barricades restricting access to public streets and sidewalks around the event. Officers moved the preachers farther away and issued warnings.
The female officer told the group, “If someone is offended by your talking, then we have a problem,” and added, “If they are offended by your speech, OK, I will write you a ticket.”
…..
Another officer further confirmed that citations would be based solely on whether others were offended. When Penkoski asked whether calling a biological male a “male” would result in a citation if someone took offense, the officer responded that if he continued doing so and someone found it offensive, he would be cited.”

More feelings over law.
Is freedom from offense a constitutional penumbra or is it an emanation?
Strictly 8th amendment.
If I’m offended by someone at Lust Fest saying a biological male is a woman, can I have the Lust Fest people arrested?
I’m offended by cops acting like cuntes.
She should get a ticket for that.
She should get canned, and then fired.
I think I’ve told the story about a gay cop coworker who would routinely fabricate reasons to arrest anti-Pride protestors.
Shocked I say.
something something about whom you are not allowed to criticize
Let’s hope there is a civil rights case incoming for Fort Worth.
Fort fucking Worth. Maybe not the buckle of the Bible Belt, but you can see it from there.
I moved from Idaho to middle TN and was confused by all the media I had consumed over my life up to that point and never understood why they called it the Bible Belt. If felt pretty damn far left and not very Christian to me.
Isn’t Ft. Worth like the largest Republican controlled city in the U.S.? Where in hell does the 1st amendment apply?
Is it? When I lived in TX it was the crunchier of the Metroplex cities.
Fort Worth, UK
Right?
I recently bought a new 2026 vehicle and I discovered it has a cellular modem built in. My vehicle is transmitting all sorts of data back to the manufacturer:
Driving Behavior: Speed, acceleration, braking events, cruise control data, steering events, and seatbelt status.
Vehicle Performance & Diagnostics: Odometer readings, MPG, tire pressure, fuel levels, battery status, emissions data, and error codes.
Location & Routing: Real-time GPS location, routes taken, points of interest, direction of travel, and associated date/time stamps.
Connected Services: Remote commands (like remote start), Wi-Fi hotspot usage, Amazon Alexa commands, and in-vehicle settings/presets.
Safety & Sensor Data: Camera images, intelligent sensor tracking (for features like forward collision warning), and drowsy driver detection data.
It can onIy only be disabled by contacting the manufacturer via an 800 number and requesting termination for privacy reasons. By law they have to disable these services if requested by the owner. You lose the following capabilities when these services are disabled:
Automatic crash notifications and emergency/roadside assistance calls.
Remote vehicle commands via the mobile app (lock/unlock, remote start).
In-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities and built-in live navigation updates.
Over-the-air (OTA) updates to your digital in-vehicle owner’s manual.
I also read that disabling the “data sharing” services will result in a warning light in the rear view mirror console for the SOS/Assist button that indicates that the Service is not active. I need to research if there are any other “side effects”. I am very much leaning towards making that phone call today and terminating the “data sharing” services. I don’t really see a downside to doing this, curious if anyone else has done this.
After the phone call, pull up the youtube video on how to physically disconnect the hardware – because I don’t trust them to not still be reporting.
Egg-sactly. If I ever get to the point where my older vehicles need to be replaced with one of these new abominations with all these “features”, wherever that cellular modem lives, it’s getting disconnected (might have to
rewire things to maintain internal electrical connectivity) or wrapped in a Faraday cage.
I’ve read that newer vehicles all that stuff is integrated and not just as simple as pulling a plug on something.
Which could be why so many other things are affected.
My previous car was a 2017 and the spyware crap was relatively primitive and could be disabled using a menu in the infotainment system. As far as I know it worked as promised. I have looked into disconnecting the modem – from what I have found so far the manufacturer keeps moving it around and/or attaching it to some other component. I have read that you can pull a fuse to kill it or disconnect the cellular antennae but that may require major surgery and taking apart the dash/infortainment system.
integrated and not just as simple as pulling a plug
Yes, I’d expect so. It was a pain enough to re-wire my Keurig 2.0 so that I could access all the settings without buying their pods and/or inserts.
I expect it might be nigh on impossible – not really, nothing like these sorts of engineering problems is ‘impossible’, just very difficult – to actually rewire or physically disable. On the other hand, I can’t think of any way a Faraday cage solution would break anything else unless some other internal system required an over the air ‘heart beat’ from the cellular module to function. But it would probably be very difficult to access the chip.
Carp – I’d take my sawzall to the dash if need be. I can tape it back up later.
Putrid – I have soldering irons, solderwick, and a hot air station. I can rework the whole PCB if need be.
Another reason my newest vehicle is a 2011 Camry.
2002 F150
A lot of the police dispatch activity near me is “false crashes” from both I-phones and car automatic crash notifications.
What is the vehicle?
2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Were all those details in the owners manual or did you have to go hunting for them?
I knew that the vehicle would be transmitting some data – they pretty much all do today. I did not realize the extent of it until I researched it.
Also I am sure all the details are buried in the privacy agreements I did not read.
I would be very much leaning towards bringing it back to the dealer and saying “I bought a car with X features, not a car that sends my information to China/whomever. Fix it so I get all of the features I purchased without this shit, or take the POS back and pay me for my time.”
Ugh…
https://www.driveuconnect.com/connected-services/terms.html
Yep…..did not read it.
I’d do all of the above, but to do that I’d have to look up instructions on that little black spying device that never leaves my person and that I would carry in the car after disabling all the spyware.
You don’t have to take the phone with you. Leave it behind.
This is going to sound all preachy and holier-than-thou, but it’s not intended that way.
My (de-googled) phone usually stays on the counter at the house in a Faraday bag. When I carry it with me, it’s in a Faraday bag. If I need it at work, it will probably stay at work for a week before I take it home to sit on the counter top.
I honestly don’t see how people have become so connected/dependent on phones. It largely just a time sink. Clearly people value it and more power to them. But that just means that most people don’t value their privacy and/or data sufficiently against the benefit of having Candi-Crush available at a moments notice or immediate access to doom-scrolling. OK that last bit was holier-than-thou. Sorry.
But I don’t think that anyone actually needs 24-7 access to their phone; it’s a matter of convenience and valuing that convenience over other things. Which is fine, but I give less credence to complaints about privacy in that context. You don’t value it, which is fine, but not my bag.
I thought the older OnStar was bad enough.

It can onIy only be disabled by contacting the manufacturer via an 800 number and requesting termination for privacy reasons.
Do you have to do that every time you start the car?
Every time you press the brakes.
Funny thing is Tesla gives you quite granular control over what data it shares. You can share lots or nothing and still get navigation and vehicle software updates.
Because it’s a media magnet – they actually are very careful what data they acquire and host.
“Following an executive order signed by Trump in February 2025, the entire government has been deployed to ensure that anyone, no matter who they are or what they’ve done, is entitled to pack heat at all times.”

Sure, Jan.
I mean, taken at it’s word, that is what the 2nd says.
Another case of, “They’re lying, but I wish that they were telling the truth…”
One tough guy to another
“The trash took itself out tonight. And now, finally, people in Maine have a chance to really vote on someone that’s not a total piece of trash,” Fetterman told Fox News’s Charles Hurt on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
The Pennsylvania Democrat said Platner “gets to go away” and “go back online,” an apparent reference to controversial Reddit posts written by the oyster farmer that drew backlash during his campaign. He added that the progressive candidate is going “straight back into oblivion.”
“Like, he’s been a dead man walking, so it’s a good day,” Fetterman added later.
The honor and dignity of the Senate are saved.
Could you honestly imagine Oz saying these things?
McConnell finally kicked it?
I actually understand why Democrat leaders didn’t take our stories seriously when the [New York] Times reported them in June but are taking them seriously now.
It was by design.

Occupational; hazards
Trump, during a gaggle on the plane after leaving the NATO summit in Turkey, was pressed about security concerns relating to the plane after the U.S. launched fresh strikes on Iran. When a reporter asked about the risk of an Iranian attack, the president responded that he faces “a threat all the time.”
“I’m No. 1 on their list, before you” he continued. “But if I go, you go. So, perhaps — perhaps some of you want to change professions.”
Trump left Turkey late Wednesday on the older Air Force One, instead of the new Qatari-gifted jet, in light of the potential risks.
The Qataris don’t equip their passenger planes with up to date countermeasures?
Well, it seems Jeep has been using all of the black boxes, and they just can’t do without them.
On the privacy thread about all the data new cars are sending back to the manufacturer… see Reckless Ben’s latest video to really get paranoid.
Off of a trespass case based on the word of one person only (failure to leave after being told to leave), they got a judge to make Google send everything- including real time location data like the new car is sending. From what he says – for all time. Not just some limited window.
This version of the surveillance state makes 1984 and Brave New World look positively unimaginative.
Even FLOCK cameras have nothing on this.
I feel like this Reckless Ben stuff would work better as a comprehensive post. Might be good content for the site.
Where does the money go?
While most Americans in Obamacare still qualify for subsidies that protect them from paying the full premiums, middle-class enrollees who don’t get those subsidies will face an especially stark increase in costs. That group includes households with incomes at or above 400% of the poverty level — about $63,000 per year for an individual or $129,000 for a family of four.
The rate increases come as federal lawmakers have proposed various policy changes to overhaul the expensive U.S. healthcare system, but no comprehensive legislation has amassed enough support to pass. The higher costs are contributing to Americans’ existing worries about overall affordability, a concern that many voters say is front of mind with November’s midterm elections looming.
The obvious solution is nationalized health care.
Shocked Obamacare didn’t fix the problems.
You need single payer so there is someone with the authority to ration the limited supply of health care that would have been rationed (or seen supply increased) by price signals in a free market. We’ve carefully designed a system that has all the price information of central planning, all the supply increases of a closed guild, the efficiency of Government at its most corrupt, with three semi-hostile, semi-cooperative bureaucracies, literally none of which represents the patient running the show. It’s like a real life straw man argument. They have broken our system so many ways just to present it as a worse alternative to single payer…

because a DIN standard for pilot watches is so hilariously German.
Those are nice too, but I have to be careful with wristwatches with a rotating bezel. I tend to use those as a fidget spinner and annoy everyone around me.
Woo-hoo! Muchová won!
