The Apple

Well, TedS wins the day again , this time with… A musical! And not just any musical, but one which is considered the worst musicals ever made. Well done TedS! What can you say about this film? Well…. It was directed and written by the same guy! That always means that person had a passion for the project. Now, it happened to be this writer and director is the famous Menahem Golan. Same guy responsible for wrote Delta Force, Operation Thunderbolt, Enter the Ninja and Oy Vey, My Son is Gay! So overall you have a 75% chance this is good. So where do we land tonight? Good? Bad? So bad it’s good? Let’s find out.,.

So what is this fine film about? Lechuguilla at IMDB did an excellent review, an excerpt of which is shown below:

If hippiedom had taken root in the 1980s, this musical shows how things might have worked out in the 1990s. Of course you have to use your imagination here. The story describes a nightmarish society wherein everyone must eat, breathe, and sleep for something called “Bim”, as promulgated by a capitalistic music mogul named Mr. Boogalow. This Mr. Boogalow rather conspicuously resembles the devil; he tempts the lead male and female singers with an apple, because their love song is a threat to his disco empire. I’m not quite sure what “Bim” refers to, except maybe the perpetuation of disco dollars, along with big bucks for bizarre costumes and garish makeup, of which the film has tons.

The entire production is so overdone, so excessive, so lacking in subtlety it’s laughable. But there is a worthwhile message here. And that’s the idea that people are easily manipulated to become slaves to greed and superficial images; that part of the future the film got right.

Thank you Lechuguilla, if we should ever meet, I owe you a drink. Now I know what you are all thinking – “R.J., is there any trivia on this film?”

Boy is there. Take a gander at this:

Director Menahem Golan has said that when the picture was booed midway through at the 1980 Montreal Film Festival, he left the theater, went to his hotel and was preparing to commit suicide by jumping off the balcony when his business partner barged in and stopped him. –IMDB

This next one explains a lot:

This picture was a tax-shelter financed production according to producer Menahem Golan. –IMDB

There is a lot more trivia, as befits a historic film disaster. What can I say? TedS knows how to pick ’em. Attaboy TedS! I will watch this insanity with you!

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary!

Next week, I am going to jump on the Odyssey bandwagon and show Ulysses, with the other Kirk! And a good time will be had by most.

This site seems slow now. Anyone else having issues?

    • R.J.

Everything is slow. I suspect shenanigans

      • Threedoor

        It’s not slow, it’s tantric.

    • Pat

I got a 504 error earlier, but it’s otherwise been fine.

    • DrOtto

I got an error after looking at an afternoon link, but then refreshed and everything was fine again, but yes, I feel doin’s transpiring.

I’m watching my recording off of TCM from several weeks back. Unfortunately Dave Karger’s intro doesn’t seem to be available on TCM.

    • Common Tater

I dropped TCM. It wasn’t worth $100 a month for that and Fox News. My cable company is so stringy, not even CNN comes with basic cable.

      • R.J.

No cable here. Over the air and streaming for me.

      • Common Tater

I don’t get the four major networks well over the air here. So I’m keeping cable to watch football.

    • Michael Malaise

I just recently learned my WATCH TCM app no longer works with my Spectrum streaming package. Ugh.

Speed song needs to be redone as a country and western song by CPRM.

Ted, I can only assume that the Glibertariat is shocked into silence at the majesty of this film.
Either that or there is a sportsball event.

I laud the effort, but I’ve never the time (nor nature) to ‘sit’ down and ‘watch’ something for a few hours. Baseball and more are background noise. I purposefully watch hockey with a side-goal of needing to pay attention to it.

Musicals are so strange. Wizard of Oz is a good one! Uh. I may be out of ones I’ve actually seen.

    • DrOtto

I just got back from dinner, now I have to try and cajole the wife into watching this, or I have to wait for her to go to bed, before I embark on the adventure.

      • R.J.

I need to charge my phone, I think those movie sucked the life out of it with all the musical numbers.

    • Common Tater

Being more gay than the Paul Lynde Halloween Special is an accomplishment. Kiss doesn’t play though. Kiss would be like King Crimson to the the shit I’m listening now. Who the fuck wrote these songs? Were they injected with some sort of anti-Paul Williams serum? They couldn’t get that Jew who wrote for Meatloaf?

      • DrOtto

I’m using this comment to try and sell the wife on this movie…

      • R.J.

That is the beat review possible.

      • R.J.

        Best. Best!!! AAAAAHHH!

Saturday is better for me and movies. If I’m working and have signal.

I’ve seen Just Imagine. It’s pretty terrible but interesting as an artifact.

Working. Will watch when I get home. With a beverage. And I won’t fall asleep on my keyboard, if the music is Peter Cetera level of awful… I’ll be way too agitated.

    • rhywun

if the music is Peter Cetera level of awful…

      I don’t think that’s possible.

      • Ted S.

So you’re not doing it all for the glory of love?

  8. Threedoor

I know I’ve asked before but I’m kinda slow.

Are there any Boise area Glibs? I’m headed down Monday for work.

I’m going to Michigan City with the whole family on Sat, and, uh. I’d really like to actually have a day or two to reprocess. I’m going Sat but I’m gonna have to leave early-ish on Sun. I don’t want to rush my evening before work Mon. I’ll feel rushed, but I *will* have two solo, perfect-distance drives to mull everything over. Those types of drives are pretty much MY vacation, so best enjoys ’ems.

I’m making an Agent Send Out checklist I can print to keep track of each “audit.” This is a good idea on many levels. AI is being a fucking bitch about something that really ain’t too tough. (Note: I am clueless with many things like Excel. Most things. *shrug*)

    Agent, seeend out man!
    Agent, seeend out man!
They’ve given you a number and I’ve filed it away!

Was it supposed to generate a tax loss for the backers?

I thought “going postal” was the other way around

CARMEL – Screams rang out at the Carmel Post Office on Thursday afternoon after a man stabbed a postal employee inside the Fair Street facility in the Putnam County seat.

Around 3 p.m. nine-one-one calls reporting a “man stabbing people” sent members of the Carmel Police and Putnam Sheriff’s Department to the scene.

Sources told Mid-Hudson News that Sheriff Brian Hess and a deputy sheriff were among the first to arrive and the deputy captured the suspect as he tried to flee. The weapon used in the attack was recovered after a brief struggle in which a Taser was deployed.

The suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody facing a variety of charges.

      Screams rang out …

The author of this news story sounds as if he wants to be a paperback writer. (No link because I’m sure I don’t have to, at least not for you.)

    • Michael Malaise

      More purple prose:

“Downtown Carmel resembled a war zone in the minutes following the attack with police cars and ambulances rushing to the scene and Fair Street cordoned off from Route 52 to Vink Drive. The downtown area remained closed for two hours on Thursday.”

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, Ted’S.!

      • Gender Traitor

Good morning, U and Sean! How are you two gentlemen today?

      • Ted S.

How bad is the flooding up there?

      • UnCivilServant

        I can’t speak for Sean.

I hiked from my car to my cube and realized I left my water bottle in the car. It’s a bit inconvenient that.

I’m in no mood for breakfast. I want to just call out sick, go back to my house, and go back to bed. But I’m here, and there’s no point in wasting leave. I’m sure I’ll have an appetite later. I had too large a dinner is all. The most amusing thing about what constitutes “too large” is how much smaller that quantity has become. That’s one of those things people don’t mention about what happens when you successfully cut back on overall food intake. Your tolerance for indulgance drops as well.

      • Gender Traitor

@U, I hope you feel better soon and can enjoy your breakfast.

      • Sean

I’ve had a wonderful week, other than being assaulted by a venomous caterpillar. ☣️ ⚠️🐛

        Checkout is this morning. 😢

Is it an outdoor morning for you GT?

      • Gender Traitor

No, I have to go to work this morning, so I don’t dare go outside or I won’t want to leave Tranq Base. Tomorrow morning I hope to stay out there at least until noon.

      • R.J.

My phone died last night, due to my incompetence at charging. So I went to sleep.

So a $64K Corolla then. No thanks.

Toyota also makes extensive mention of the GRMN’s aero, which includes a hood duct, fender ducts, front side spoilers, and the aforementioned trick rear wing. Drivers can alter the wing’s angle with a five-click adjustment that moves it one degree at a time. I almost can’t imagine an owner pushing the car hard enough to notice the difference here, but maybe I’m wrong.

      Retards will love it though.

Netflix sued for $105 million for allegedly losing “master copy” of unreleased Nicolas Cage movie

The complaint filed on Wednesday in California district court alleges that the film’s associate producer, Daniel Haido, hand-delivered an unencrypted master copy of the film to Netflix so the company could screen it as a potential buyer. Haido verbally instructed the employee to delete the files after the screening, according to the suit.

A little over a week after the screening, Netflix emailed the filmmakers to say the drive had been stolen, the plaintiffs allege.

The plaintiffs said studios will now be dissuaded from buying the rights to the movie, knowing that a version of it could be released by a third party for free.

Being a Nick Cage feature brings a lot of uncertainty to its value.
