Welcome to the final Thursday of July. Only seven more weekdays until school starts and the absolute chaos of Summer ends. Thank the Lord! My older two are with their grandparents in NorCal. The went to see Alcatraz. I wonder if they are too young to see Phil Hartman’s fantastic performance as tour guide in So I Married an Axe Murderer…
Someone thought it would be a good idea to pair a 16 year old girl with a single male cop for an explorer patrol. It appears he explored her quite thoroughly.
I’m not sure I want mushroom clothes. No matter how much you wear them, it still can’t make you a fun guy.
We must protect John Connor at all costs. I’m also willing to father him as long as it is 1984 Linda Hamilton.
I think we know how these cults from California end…

In their defense, you really shouldn’t *have* to think “Of course a 32 year old male cop is going to try to fuck the 16 year old police explorer.”
Look it’s Dieago and Dora’s culture.
Don’t be racist. She was past her quinceañera.
Don’t all of the explorers fuck single (and not yet single) cops?
I say this not in defense of the piggie but in recognition of reality: there is such a thing as attraction to power for women. And the notion that someone who wanted to be in such a police program would suffer such afflictions is not beyond the pale.
So the idea that piggie groomed a poor innocent girl into actions she never would have done if left to her own devices is far from a foregone conclusion. It is at least plausible that she entered his vehicle flirty and ready for attention and he failed to live up to his station.
I have coached girls sports since I was in college in the 80s. It is not at all uncommon for girls in the pre-teen and teen group to get crushes on a coach. It makes for some pretty awkward boundary setting. Because I came of age in the era of affirmative consent and aggressive political correctness, I set entirely unreasonable no contact rules. (Watching a 13 year old girl bawl her eyes out and not doing the human thing of putting an arm around her shoulder is not comfortable).
So… what am I saying?
Well, labeling the guy as a predator who preyed on a poor innocent girl is possibly an overstatement.
And the natural order of things would be for the father to summarily execute the guy on sight. Or maybe require marriage if he is otherwise suitable.
In my house, we shoot the bastard. And I have a pre-existing agreement with my police officer friend who also has 2 daughters to help hide the body, should this ever become reality.
Yeah, that was a roller-coaster. I just dont like jumping to conclusions.
I’ll say it: he is very good looking at least from the few pics I’ve seen.
That’s the crux of my point though. Everything you said is true. And knowing that, it’s the responsibility of the 32 year old grown ass man to exercise the discretion befitting a 32 year old grown ass man. That’s something we should be able to expect as a matter of course, let alone from someone charged with enforcing the law. I’d have to know more facts before categorizing the heinousness of the crime, but at best he committed statutory rape instead of keeping his dick in his pants around a high school girl. The difference would be relevant at sentencing.
Pat – which is why, ’round these here parts, he would do well to stay in police custody, ’twere the case to involve me and mine. And my daughter would be grounded until she is 25. Maybe 27.
Don’t worry, it’ll grow on you eventually.
My question is, if you wear them, will you be kept in the dark, and fed only horseshit?
I’m sure there’s morel to the story.
Sounds pretty shiitake.
Well, we have this all buttoned up!
Y’all have no morels.
You’ll look so bella!
Like this?
One of their biggest boosters becomes governor twice?
Also, she doesn’t look bugfuck nuts at all…
I get that I’m subnormal, but I have no idea how people find crazy to be charismatic. She looks like a younger, tranny version of Kenneth Copeland.
lol’s
Crazy eyes for sure. Still would.
This right here. No question.
“how these cults from California end…”
A nice cup of phenobarbital and vodka should help with those shakes. If you lack the faith to choke it down just mix it with some Kool-Aid.
FlavorAid
FlavorAid’s PR must be really good to have gotten the stink off them and getting it stuck on Kool-Aid.
The country needs more tent show snake handlers.
We cant all live in Florida.
At least the music slaps:

My third-favorite t-shirt. I wear it to reptile conventions: https://www.nerdywave.com/products/appalachia-pentecostal-t-shirt
Why do you want people to *have* to stare at you for quite a while to read?
(The snakes transfix your passers-by? Great power, but I want that like .00000001% of the time. Well. Much more than that. Like, Crazy-Eyed Cultikoo up there, she easily passes my (woulden) bar for ‘folk I want to be transfixed by my presence. And actively pay attention to me.’
(On forgetting to take his malaria pill) “If I were a girl, I’d be pregnant a lot!” ~Richard Hammond.
I’m not terrible on the street. I’d be highly suspicious of a new, cute girl being all over me, but I’d be really easy to ‘swindle.’ (I’d likely write it off as at least I got something for the loss.)
I accidentally went to one of those churches in the north Georgia mountains with my (black) ex wife. They had a row of plywood and wire enclosures in the back filled with rattlesnakes.
Nice people. Extremely welcoming. Lots of speaking in tongues. One lady fell to the ground and rolled up and down the aisle.
We didnt go back.
And for your hot take of the day: Sonic Youth was a bunch of overrated, pretentious nepo babies. No wave and alt rock had better representatives who lacked the trust fund to purchase themselves a career.
I like Daydream Nation a lot but never paid attention before or after that.
Pretentious maybe. I had no idea they were nepo babies, though I guess when your name is Thurston that kind of comes with the territory. I still like them.
And Pat shows himself to be ded rong. EVOL is a bomb album, Death Valley is also great. And, like the Velvet, they influenced so many other bands it is not comparable (except to the Pixies.)
I neither love or hate them. Not a huge fan of Kim Gordon’s voice, but that’s matters of taste. It’s not to say they’re necessarily bad, or poorly representative of their genres, just that they probably wouldn’t have been as influential or received as much industry praise had they just been a bunch of schmucks in the NYC avant garde scene and not the offspring of hippie academics.
I think I remember reading a story about The Strokes debut live performance being sponsored by Levi’s.
That’s a band I’ve absolutely heard about being nepos, at least the singer.
Also I have one album and never bothered with the following six even though I kind of like it.
Yes Julian Casablancas is a nepo for sure. But think about it, he could’ve done nothing with his life and he’s managed to make 3-4 good albums and a few terrible ones. Albert Hammond III is in the band as well. It’s not like they don’t work at it I guess.
Julian Casablancas is the acme of nepo babies. Like pretty much everyone else in my age cohort, Is This It was one of the albums that sparked my interest in the “indie” rock and post-punk revivals of the early aughts, and I still listen to it from time to time, but everything else they’ve put out either sounded indistinguishable from their debut, or took off in a direction that didn’t catch my fancy.
*raises embarrassed confessional*
Like many, I thought Indiana was really fucking cool for a bit when I was in high school. Just in the music scene alone. All this great music coming out of Indy. It was a four-hour drive back then, and now it’s like two and small change.
Fun ‘fact:’ Always heard Eville was “the biggest metro in the US without direct access to an Interstate.” Mostly true, but now we connect to Indy. Oooh, also fun! Here’s the route Indiana’s third biggest city to Indy: SR 57 / US 231 to SR 37 North through Bloomington & Martinsville, OR US 41 North to Terre Haute then I-70 East
Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying they suck. I rather like a handful of songs I heard on the radio twenty odd years ago. Not incredible musicians or lyricists but had a distinctive sound and were catchy enough for me to not change the station when they were on.
Just kinda touching on Pat’s take on SY.
Yup, it was everywhere.
Interpol did it better. I still like several of their albums.
Yeah, I liked what little I’ve heard of Interpol.
Yo, rhywun! Would it be gay of me to kinda like the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs’ first two albums?
Maps was a banger.
Based on my music library there’s no possible way you’d guess I was straight. No accounting for taste. Not even your own.
“Interpol did it better.”
Damn. I’ve been going back through ‘old’ albums I loved and hadn’t heard forever. Turn On the Bright Lights is maybe in my Top 10 albums. Fuck, it’s good. Been forever. They’re one of many bands I haven’t re-listened to in a long time. Many reasons for that, but started when in Asia and in public or the metro, etc. I’m not good at listening to music in public. Like, really bad at it. Too much entertainment around as it is, frankly, and I kinda had to actually pay attention over there.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs I think I had a track or two once, but lost. Knock yourself out but they must not have made a huge impression on me.
Room on Fire is the best Strokes album.
Interpol’s TOTBL is amazing.
👍
It is so good.
I’ll be seeing Interpol tomorrow night.
@B.P.
Nice! 🤘🤘
FWIW I own a lot of hetero music myself.
YYYeah’s first three albums are fan-fucking-tastic. Don’t know their other ones at all. I think I like all three in pretty equal measure. Karen O’s half Korean. There’s no way I’d get along with her, I imagine.
Oooh. More embarrassing. “Last Nite” was a regular, sometimes a show-ender, in ‘my’ first band, a cover band in Korea. “The Man Wons,” which, translated and cross-currencied, is like “The 10 dollar bills.” That was in 2010 or 11 but was there before me and went on after. A rotating group of musicians, and that band only played fun, popular (with us) music. Great fucking times. I always hear(d) about people in their 20s in London, NYC, etc in ‘big’ decades and their partying, etc. I’m very pleased my crazy scene was Korea and ‘all’ of Southeast Asia. *Ev gives self a thumbs up, but not up his ass*
My crazy NYC party years were in my 30s.
Music has a sexual orientation?
Damn. I have been doing it wrong.
Of course not, but social affinities being what they are, certain “scenes” tend to attract a certain sort of fanbase, and that seems to be even more the case the more niche you get.
Did anyone consider those shaking folks at the book signing were good old fashioned plants? Younger people these days think they invented everything, they’ll probably fall for the old parlor tricks.
“Pastor Chris Rosebrough has similarly accused Krick on YouTube of accepting an unhealthy level of admiration from followers that should be reserved for Jesus alone.”
I’m getting a good chuckle out of this line, after reading excerpts from Fauci’s diary this week.
One of my pet peeves:
“US GDP increases by 1.5% in second quarter”
Is that an annualized 1.5% growth rate, or an actual 1.5% increase?
As long as number go up we good
In either case, it’s driven entirely by government spending and therefore only “growth” in an inflationary sense.
We must protect John Connor at all costs.
I for one welcome our new AI overlords
It helps that you record that sentiment long before they take over.
On the whisky front i could not bring myself to spending 100 for a pour of george t stagg and setteled for 55 for a pour of Thomas Handy Rye, their cheapest BTAC offering. I quite liked it. It was good. They had two offerings and i took the lower abv 125 and i did not feel it hot. The other was 135
Handy is amongst my favorite brown spirits. I have an unopened bottle from 2010 in my cabinet. I’m sorry I’ve missed your North American adventures, as I could’ve hooked you up with some good bourbons.
Eh, everyone likes a Handy.
Well who knows what the future may bring 😀
A rich orange guy could become president of Romania, and Pie might have to leave for his own safety, and to preserve democracy.
Not judging, and I do enjoy bourbon and rye, but for over fifty bucks that pour had better be from Scotland.
I will do you a trick better, mate…. at over fifty bucks for a pour, the other bloke had best be putting it on his expense account.
I just got a bottle of Old Forester Prohibition 115 and am looking forward to trying that tonight.
Mel and I stayed at a place that had GTS on the bar menu. I had been the original person to drink out of the bottle a few months before, and nobody else had touched it. We proceeded to finish it. So we basically killed a bottle of Stagg for $700. I can now pass when I see it on a list.
It feels strange to see two sets of links when only one exists when I am back home.
You’ve had so much to drink you’re seeing double?
He’s out hunting when the second set publishes in the middle of the night.
It is fun to see you all over this PM links post.
I think he’s wearing sunscreen.
Vampire powers deactivate.
“The good news is it won’t turn you into a zombie. ”
That’s exactly what they would say if it did.
100% safe and effective!
If I was going to design a method for the zoonotic transfer of this particular fungal parasite to humans….
Scotland’s grotesque male-breastfeeding experiment
Not even just wankers, but colonized by wankers…
Complete bug-fucking madness. And “the west” is completely powerless to stop it.
What would you expect him to say?
Ferrari is pleased with the launch of the Luce all-electric vehicle despite significant criticism upon the car’s debut, according to CEO Benedetto Vigna.
He said Thursday that the famed Italian automaker “would not change anything” about the vehicle’s launch this spring, which caused a notable decline in Ferrari shares amid negative reactions to the car, including from former Ferrari executive Luca di Montezemolo.
——-
The Luce was designed by former Apple design chief Jony Ive and is a departure from the aesthetic of typical Ferraris, with a minimalistic interior design, screens and a bubbly exterior. It is Ferrari’s first all-electric vehicle.
It mwqkes all those old jalopies look like shit.
🙄️ He and Shepard Fairey should see if some company will give them a billion dollars each to do a “I’ve had exactly one idea in my entire career” collaboration.
We finally got the Apple car and are surprised it’s not white.
They could have at least made it the translucent colors of the old iMacs.
Where’s the rose gold edition?
It’s ugly, I’m shocked. The good news is, Ferrari is synonymous with “nice/expensive” so people with more money than brains will certainly buy them.
Readers of a delicate disposition may wish to stop reading now
If only I had listened.
I was not even aware of the extent of the mental illness spreading among that crowd.
WRT the article on the cult.
Is this proof that there is no God and the atheists are right? Because there needs to be some serious smiting going on, and much to my regret, it isn’t happening.

*grumbles*
At the least could we get a plague of locusts?
Who said money is the root of all evil because I suspect that’s at play too. That lady’s a fraud leading a congregation of fools. On that note, who said there’s a sucker born every minute?
Cascadia subduction zone and SanAndraus may be linked.
Hopefully they are as they are both hugely overdue.
In a population of 340 million you’ll be able to find just about every weird and abnormal belief and behavior you can imagine.
To confirm, all we need do is look in the mirror.
Im normal. I like a little kink every now and then, but otherwise, normal.

Genius
School starts crazy early in your parts. It’s three days into the third week of August round here.
After Labor Day in New York.
As it should be.
Schools have shifted to August starts to combat ‘dog days of summer’ which humans naturally shift their shenanigans earlier in the summer.
For Suthen.
Where’s he been?
I miss him
Canoe trip on the Arkansas River?
Off to MA for a family reunion, wife’s that is. Apparently, I may need to seek medical attention at these.
Just meet Pie for a double before you arrive.
If Pie is in area, he is welcome
Garden Grove…seems appropriate
Statement + Disclosure: So I Married is highly underrated. It’s been a bit, so nostalgia seeps in. Silly, and the real axey axe-axe is both tremendously snuggable AND scary as shit.
They’ve got me doing the file audits and verifying with my immediate man., and she does the little notes and emails. Didn’t have much today, but it all went well. Had my first re-finance! (Easier than others.) I hope to repeat it tomorrow. I also took 3x my ‘normal’ Thinking Pills, mostly cuz ‘we’ don’t have it titrated along with my not wanting to run out. (I skip non-work days.)
My short trip home was a bit special. Same as yesterday, but that was a pretty dark drive. Good (enough) music on. Was kinda better being songs I didn’t really know. I’m a tremendous d̵r̵u̵m̵m̵e̵r̵ ̵a̵s̵ ̵a̵ driver. Next time I jam at bro’s place, a) I may want the youngins to be able to hear, and b) I’m not gonna try to play along with anything. Just have fun and play with something. Been a while.
So are you staying at this job? This morning sounded doubtful.
Sounds on the up swing Evan.
Hope it is.
Well. I certainly have tomorrow. Today, again, we didn’t have a whole lot to do, but that helps. I do the audits, check ’em with my immediate manager, desk right next to me, then she does the notes we share with colleagues, along with the emails that go after. Sometimes we have to send a doc or two, or request a thing or such. We have boilerplate emails we put in and have to just change stuff like address, closing dates, properties legal name, etc. (They’re in predictable places.)
It’s strange. None of it is difficult, but I was making odd (to me) mistakes. I think the gear shift between ‘audit’ and ‘boiler plate emails out’ is… uh. Well, it vexes me. Apparently, some specific wiring of mine for it has been affected. But, what work I had today, I did well with. She didn’t have to fix anything, other than something new I’d encountered. Other New Guy also still has questions, but he’s been without manager monitering for two weeks.
Today went well. I also took extra Thinking Pills, which I’ll repeat tomorrow, cuz I’m not dumb. I’m keeping at it. In a good way, I’ll be equally vexed if my ‘proper’ dosing myself was an important contributor, today, but that’s a more positive vexation. (Great band name. Think ‘hippy folk,’ but stage presence includes dirty-fuckin’ the Amish. I’ll go a diff route, but you do you.)
Something new I encountered, as in, the refinance I did hadn’t been shown to me yet. I didn’t forget it, it just was the first time. So it wasn’t me showing an inability to retain knowledge.
Dirty fucking the Amish.
Rumspringa girls you say?
