Tommy John has passed away. The Astros are back to their old ways, but so are the rest of the division. The White Sox are pulling away (didn’t think I’d see myself type that this year). Premier League teams are back after Arsenal thumped Man City in the Community Shield. And Scottie Scheffler annihilated everybody but a sprinkler head as the FedEx playoffs began. And that’s it for sports.
This is an effort to shore up the dwindling tax receipts. You won’t convince me otherwise. Because if it was about the kids, the money would be going to them if these suits were successful.
I have no problem with this. Repelling people who are invading is literally part of their job.
Some people will do anything to use the carpool lane. Although this seems a bit excessive.
I’m shocked! Well, not really. I always knew this little cretin was full of shit.
Good thing they weren’t replaced by social workers. Bet you probably won’t hear the mayor make that demand again.
Where’s Vince Foster when you need him? What did Hillary have going on at Los Alamos?
This is a cool story. Although he should try something a little more challenging next time and run across the state of Texas.
Get him, Cuban. About time you saw this idiot for what he’s worth.
This might push her into the loony bin. Hopefully not the one she was setting up though.
I hope he doesn’t do anything crazy. The media would go nuts if he did something unprecedented, like call himself Trump’s wingman. Oh, wait…
I actually like this cover. Or maybe just the lead singer. Yeah, it’s probably the latter. Either way, enjoy them both.
And enjoy this lovely Monday, dear friends.

The CL has been going on for a couple qualifying rounds already.
Why do you want the poor charity runner to die?
He can do it in early december so it barely feels like the worst summer of his life.
To be fair, having to spend time in Texas would be the worst time in anyone’s life.
The weather will be worse in Texas. But, El Paso to Beaumont is about 830 miles or so on I-10, which is shorter than the distance he ran.
One does not run across Texas…

Correct.
“This is an effort to shore up the dwindling tax receipts. You won’t convince me otherwise. Because if it was about the kids, the money would be going to them if these suits were successful.”
When they tell you it is about the kids, you KNOW it is about money, not the kids.
Education money hasn’t been about the kids for decades.

Sure, they’re not bringing you high speed rail today but it is on the back burner, they haven’t forgotten.
And Cuban will still vote for Khanna.
Yep. Cuban’s a pretty smart dude within his domain, but he’s pretty clearly been poisoned by the Democrat-coded desire to ‘be a good person.’
That’s why I won’t feel too bad for Cuban when they come for him.
I think he should be forced to vote for Ro and live in his district. He funded and supported these assholes, now he needs to feel the impact of his democracy.
You can be a lying, evil scumbag and an idiot at the same time.
And there it is, the whole of failure in one sentence.
the people he feels are idiots
Well I kinda have to agree with you, and him – anyone that votes for or supports him is an idiot.
And that, that right there, is why the Dems will keep coming back. If you cannot see that some people have different needs and wants you just look like an asshole and they will reject your politics no matter how “smart” you are.
Oh trust me, I have no higher opinion of most/many conservatives. I’m not trying to persuade, because that would require people to think and most people have absolutely no interest in doing that. You rub their feelings the right way, and they won’t give a shit what you really do. That is the common man (or woman), and I have no use for him.
“Some people will do anything to use the carpool lane. Although this seems a bit excessive.”

If I see some guy coming at me with a bloody knife, he gets at most one chance to drop it. Not several, and then a taser.
Agreed, and that ‘chance to drop it’ is most likely him seeing me start to draw. Somebody with a bloody knife in hand, approaching me within a few paces, and threatening to cut me – that’s about as clear a deadly threat as can possible exist.
We’d call that a cleaver here. He’d given his father less than 40 whacks, I’d guess, since Dad had survived.
It’s been hammered into peoples’ heads that the DOJ is some independent branch of government when Rs hold office. Any story that comes out, reframes to ensure the public, that Trump is holding a vengeance tour.
When Ds hold office it’s ‘at the leisure of the Executive’ and any story that comes out otherwise, provides that cover.
Bottom line, no gov’t branch or office should work with Trump in any way, whatsoever.

“Oman, a major US defense ally in the Middle East, is currently negotiating with Iran over a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by placing the narrow waterway, through which one-fifth of the world’s oil passes, under joint control.
Trump has previously stated that Iran will not be allowed to control the waterway by charging levies or taxes from US-backed oil tankers.
The President issued a dire warning on Monday morning during a Fox News interview if Oman moves forward with its negotiations: ‘If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the s*** out of them.'”

“A mother and her daughter paid $1,000 apiece for tickets to Monday’s Indiana Fever vs. Atlanta Dream game at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
They came specifically to watch Sophie Cunningham, the only player in the woke WNBA with the courage to speak biological truth out loud and stand against men invading women’s sports.
They showed up wearing XX/XY shirts in open support of that stance. The back of the daughter’s shirt delivered a simple, unambiguous message: “For the girls.”
They say arena staff confronted them over their clothing and gave them two choices: Cover their shirts or leave, according to Adam Francisco. They were handed oversized shirts to throw on over their own clothes like they were the problem.”

I would let them escort me out and hope it’s on camera to embarrass that ridiculous league even further.
But would you pay $2K for the privilege?
Fuck no. That is bizarre. That can’t be regular prices?!
“WNBA ticket prices in 2026 range from approximately $20 for upper-level regular season seats to over $500 for premium courtside experiences at high-demand games. The average WNBA ticket price is typically estimated between $60 and $90, depending on the team and demand.”
What counts as a high-demand game? Do they ever sell out a stadium?
Yes, because I would bet that there are enough people who would cover that via GoFundMe.

I mentioned last week that my winter project is to resurrect a 46-year-old parts bike that I put together starting with a 50-year-old French racing frame.
Is anyone interested in seeing a series on the process and progress of the work? If so, I’ll need to document what I am doing as I do it.
Sure.
C’mon, you know the answer will be a resounding “yes!”.
(“Yes!”)
BloodContent for theBloodContent God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!(skulls optional)
TPTB will always say yes to more content.
I was interested in whether the commentariat would have an interest in the topic.
Kinnath, I’ve noticed a pattern – the commentariat will take an interest in virtually any topic provided it is coherent. Though sometimes the amusement is in the incoherence. The eclectic tastes represented mean the odds are good it will be welcomed.
And fixing/making things? Absolutely interest.
UnCiv, I found myself burning a lot of hours googling technology and parts availability over the weekend.
It dawned on me, that people here might actually be interested in the end result.
I could have assumed that the content would be welcomed, but it’s always nice to get some validation before starting the data collection process that it will be worthwhile in the end.
Thanks for your input.
Absolutely. Bikes seem like they should be very simple technology that got sorted out long ago. Seeing how to retrofit new parts onto an old frame should be interesting.
Bikes seem like they should be very simple technology
Actually . . . no, not really. Small, light-weight, durable, precise mechanisms are not always simple. 😉
50 years of progress has made things much better. Touring/racing components have evolved quite a bit. So, compatibility is a major issue.
I have already found a source of modern hardware to replace key components on the bike — French-threaded bottom bracket and headset. But, wheels have changed –> forcing gear clusters to change –> forcing derailleurs to change –> so, yeah, that’s all fun.
Is the frame metric at least? Bikes that old could throw you a loop sometimes.
Is the frame metric at least? Bikes that old could throw you a loop sometimes.
Yes. It is a mid-70s Gitane.
I had one bike mechanic note that my bike was from the “bad old days”. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad bike, he continued, just a pain in the ass because the French did things their own way.
The concerns would be tube diameters and threading. My seat post and handle bar stem are in good shape and can be re-used. I’ve found a supplier for French threaded bottom brackets and headset, so I can install modern sealed-bearing components that will fit the frame.
Everything else can be replaced with modern ISO/British standard parts.
Of course.
Old technology and DIY’ng? Brother, do you really have to ask?
I know. 😉
Hoping you will put training wheels on it so it’ll be more useful for me.
Very much so.
NICE!! Gitane, Mercier, Peugeot? Biggest thing I remember about French bikes is that they were the only true metric system bikes, which means that they didn’t use English standards for things like down tubes, headset diameters, handlebar thickness, and so on. Italian, Austrian and all the others used Imperial measurements for components, which makes sourcing easier. Like handlebars, for instance. French bikes are 22mm, while everyone else used 7/8″, which is 22.2mm. Might not seem like a lot, but it really makes a difference, and I am dead sure that is what makes vintage French goosenecks get the rep for being “death stems”.
The Sheldon Brown website has a lot of good info, but there are some big mistakes, although some people are going back and correcting a lot of it.
https://www.sheldonbrown.com/
This is a Gitane frame from the golden era (mid-70s).
When I got the frame, it had the frame, bottom bracket, crankset, headset, and stem. I don’t recall if it had the seat post or if I had to replace it.
Velo Orange (velo-orange.com) sells bottom brackets and headsets for vintage French bikes. This was my most important discovery over the weekend. I am now stoked. 😉
Yes, VO is a great company to deal with. I used a few parts from them when I put together a mid-seventies Peugeot UO8.
I might still have a period correct Ideale saddle around here. Let me look for it, and if I find it, it is yours if you are interested.
The leather saddle I have looks to be in decent shape. Needs to be oiled badly. But I’ve already picked out a new leather saddle and seat post from VO. 🙂
I’m a fairly competent mechanic and I despise working on our bikes. I just don’t get them.
Well, this is just fantastic.

And will it then be a reliable Blue state? Sen. Talarico is also looking like a winner (according to polls- YMMV)
“Sen. Talarico is also looking like a winner”
Really?
He is now, in August. I suspect as we get into football season and his comments about football=toxic masculinity come out, his popularity will drop.
I know stupid party is stupid, but Paxton’s crew needs to be running that soundbite and the one about God being Trans on an endless loop once we get past Labor Day.
I have been predicting that forever. There is no way it remains a “red” state with that many people. There is nothing special about Texas that will somehow prevent it from the same fate as every other rapidly growing state.
“None of us is as stupid as all of us.”
The Blueitude of a state is generally a function of how urbanized it is. Houston functions as a classical Dem craphole city, politically, subject to periodic interventions from the state. Austin, of course, is standing Blue joke. Its other big cities are somewhat anomalous, but I haven’t lived there for 15 years or so, so I couldn’t really say.
I would say it’s inevitable that Texas goes blue as it urbanizes, but I don’t know that our current political/governance system will survive long enough for that to happen.
It might be worth remembering that Texas was once as Democratically solid as the rest of the South. Almost like there are cycles or something.
I propose that we gerrymander the 20 largest cities into one glorious, utopian state of free shit and unlimited crime.
And reduce it to territorial status so that it has no Congressional delegation.

And I thought you were a real American…
Pas du tout, monsieur!
There are also Acadians from the Maritimes.
Yesterday, as I was clicking on random youtubes, I ended up on one which featured a guy and his dog tramping around in the mountains. He didn’t say where. It could have been Montana or Colorado or Oregon. He was hiking in to something he saw on google satellite (I think it might have been a water powered sawmill but it’s so decrepit it’s impossible to know).
But that’s not the point. He was in pine forest which was probably two thirds dead beetlekill. Trees were blown down all over like pickup sticks. It was a mess. I wouldn’t want to try to make my way through it. He did a little spiel about the “natural cycle”, which was fine as far as it went, but I kept saying to myself the place was long overdue for a burn. When it goes it will be spectacular. And after it burns it will thrive.
That’s the part all the people bleating about forest fires don’t mention.
Yeah, that needs to cauterize, clear out the dead wood and cut down on the beetle population. Start over as meadow and grow new trees.
Prince Edward Island was full of dead spruce. Also some beetle or other.
How did Pie like PEI?
It looked like The Shire. Very rural but always got the feeling it was populated, no long stretches of nothing, no dense housing. But everywhere you saw a house or farm here or there. Pretty houses well tilled earth (about half of land area is cultivated,) and besides the crops some hill here some forest there a lake or pond. Seemed very shire-y Pretty coastline with the red sands. To many mosquitoes. Decent food and beer.
🤔
I might need to visit some day.
nice placer to visit but too rural to live there… Nice in summer I wonder about winter though… Looking in the past I saw daily highs of 3C in April and May… Bit chilly innit.

Nice in summer I wonder about winter though… Looking in the past I saw daily highs of 3C in April and May
My first time there was in late May. Temperatures got below freezing a few nights. My last full day there the wind stopped, the Sun came out, and the high during the day was around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It was the only nice day of the trip.

A clear cut on state land was done near my house a year ago. Mature pine forest, left a few white pine. Anyway, as I drive through it, it has rejuvenated with wild flowers and deer browse. It isn’t very big, 80 acres or a little more.
Anyway, I’m thinking, if I had bee hives there they’d do really well, I’m sure the deer will line up this winter. The private land ends up being replanted in a monoculture, I don’t know what the state as in mind, maybe sell it off. Would be great for rural residential, not that I would want that but not my decision.
We had a fire near here this spring, I was happy that that had been clear cut as a barrier.
State around here replants in a monoculture as well. It’s a crop afterall.
Start over as meadow and grow new trees.
Exactly. A meadow full of big fat elk.
I am unsure why people are surprised at this revelation. I mean, is it not obvious that democrats are overrepresented in academia, government, media, entertainment, and yes, law, because they profit from democrat polices? Our legal system is full of political carveouts to make the legal profession male bank. Check out who keeps giving them more and more of that.
A 30-year-old American tourist died Sunday after being struck by lightning on Italy’s Mount Etna, according to Italy’s national news agency ANSA and other major news outlets.
The man, whose name has not been confirmed by authorities, was hiking on the volcano when a powerful thunderstorm moved across the area. According to initial reports by ANSA and other agencies, he had entered an area designated as off-limits to hikers, apparently in an effort to get closer to the summit of the active volcano.

Wasserman Schultz, who is white, is now running for the seat based in the southeastern part of the state, which has been represented by a Black lawmaker for more than 30 years. She is competing against four other Democrats, all of whom are Black, and has a good shot of winning in a seat that is expected to stay in Democratic hands.
Much of the Black Democratic establishment isn’t happy about it.

off course. needs be done.
They are attacking my racket!
Devs all freaking because GitHub is having an outage and their AI coding agents aren’t working.
How quickly they’ve learned to utterly rely on it…
That’s why you have an Enterprise version. That way when it goes belly up you have your own people to blame..
Not an option for Co-pilot.
(we do otherwise have at leastd one Enterprise Github instance)
My company has an Enterprise version and is using Copilot on it. Yes, you have some incestuous relation/auth dependency back to Github common, but you get a workaround…
AFAIK, the models are still going to run in the cloud even with Enterprise – are your devs currently shrieking?
“Reddit is doing the most Reddit thing possible.
The WNBA subreddit, the forum where WNBA fans gather to talk all things WNBA, has banned any discussion at all about WNBA player Sophie Cunningham.
You know, because she’s moderately right-wing.”

OFFS!
We will never reach peak Reddit.
I can only hope that I’ll live to see us reach trough Reddit.
Tidally locked with the Gruniad?
She has more points per game than anyone else …
Armando Grundy-Gomes, president of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida, has personally endorsed another candidate, 27-year-old progressive Elijah Manley. (His organization doesn’t endorse under its bylaws.) He wishes Wasserman Schultz wasn’t running at all.
“Our preferred candidate would be anyone other than Debbie Wasserman-Schultz,” Grundy-Gomes said. He alleges that he reached out to the congresswoman last month and she hung up on him, a charge she denies.
Something we can all agree on.
We hate them JOOS and women without penises, so I am endorsing the people that want camps and piles of bodies in the future where the new feudal lords steal everything!
Somehow I doubt they’d endorse Allen West.
Yeah, you’d have thought that a Black woman running for Virginia governor would’ve attracted a lot of Black votes. That partisan label means a lot more than skin tone.
When you read about this tragedy, the one thing you do not see them admit is that it was all predictable and related directly to their ideological policies. When you promote people without them having shown proficiency, eventually these people will find themselves failing. And the failure then will come at a huge cost.
Systems of success sadly punish those that fail. Whether they fail out of lack of effort or skill. It is sad for the people tat fail. But it helps weed them out of getting to a place where that failure costs them a fortune later. You are neither showing empathy nor doing a good thing promoting unqualified people. Have lower ed hold the people that fail back. If you graduate high school at 24 it is on you.
I’m not sure ‘tragedy’ is the right word for an easily anticipated outcome.
Crime?
I’d go with ‘atrocity’, but ‘crime’ also works.
Every time I hear someone use terms like “fur baby” or “fur family” or “my animals are my children” I want to 🤮.
They are pets. They can be part of your household, you can love them, but they are not replacements for children.
True, dogs can’t even do basic factory work.
Cats can make biscuits.
SEND THE DOGS TO THE MINES
I don’t believe in dressing them up either except for Halloween. *preps at-at costume
To those type of people they are worth more than children.
They will advocate for abortion to save the world and push people to adopt some 14 year old sick dog rather than getting a puppy.
They are anti human.
Pets are property.
Akin to livestock.
I’d rather be in a bar with dogs than little kids/babies.
But we’re for the good kind of socialism!
“The word ‘socialism’ triggers terrible memories for the vast majority of immigrants, exiles and refugees across the state of Florida and beyond because they associate it with everything they lost in their countries of origin, including the lives of loved ones,” said Macarena Iglesias, president of the Democratic Hispanic Caucus of Florida.
Florida’s Tuesday primaries have a handful of progressives competing in them. But the country’s most prominent democratic socialists, including Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, haven’t gotten involved.
The most high-profile battle Tuesday will be the top-of-the-ticket Senate race, where retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman, of Trump impeachment whistleblower fame, is competing for the Democratic nomination against state Rep. Angie Nixon, who recently joined the Democratic Socialist of America. Whoever wins the primary will go up against GOP Sen. Ashley Moody, a former state attorney general appointed to the Senate by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
That’s a tough choice. Is there a convicted child molester on the ballot?
Vindman needs to be airdropped behind the lines in Ukraine.
“Since 2009, the number of flea-borne typhus cases in L.A. has increased by a staggering 2,300 percent. Last year, the county recorded more cases than at any point in its history. Some patients have died. Behind the scenes, the authorities responsible for protecting the public admit that they lack the resources they need to get the situation under control.”

As the rest of the country descends into the 1970’s, LA is going for the 1570’s.
Trump’s fault
If only there was some kind of agency within the government that was dedicated to public health.
Angelinos need to mask.
Rate without count is, well, maybe not meaningless, but often misleading. Did they go from one case to 230? A thousand to a quarter million? We’ll never know, I guess.
And why 2009 as the baseline?
New teeth for the homeless will fix this.
The enemy in the mirror
In 2023, Washington building code officials gathered public feedback on the state’s new wildfire hazard maps and regulations. In areas mapped as at-risk, newly constructed homes would be required to have fire-resistant roofs, siding and other measures. Homeowners would also be required to manage flammable vegetation to create defensible space, like making sure tree branches are 10 feet from a house or structure.
In a series of public hearings, some conservation groups pushed back, saying the vegetation rules would go against regional goals to increase the urban tree canopy and provide shade that would cool buildings during heat waves. Others said the wildfire maps were overly broad and didn’t accurately reflect the real risk.
“Our greatest concern at Audubon is preserving bird habitat,” testified Eric Seibel on behalf of the Tahoma Audubon Society, a wildlife conservation group now known as the Tahoma Bird Alliance. “I’m concerned that trees, which are our best defense against climate change, will be destroyed en masse if the provisions of the code pass.”
I can’t help thinking the people at Audubon Society know fuck-all about preserving bird habitat or anything else.
What happens when lefty hobby horses collide
“A special education teacher who recruited black people to “shoot some guns” and “rob some white people” is now banned from the school where she worked and is under police investigation.
Kenisha Daily, a special ed teacher at Madera Unified School District in Fresno posted several disturbing videos of herself on social media over the weekend describing her want to create a “black militia.” Daily also loaded weapons, including a shotgun and a pistol, in the videos.
“Starting today, I’m starting a black militia. So if you’re black, if you want to shoot some guns, come find me,” she said in a video shown by ABC 30 KFSN. “We’re going to rob some white people.””

That’s retarded.
She’s teaching what she knows.
*Slow clap
EvilSheldon’s Second Rule of Insurgency – “Look harmless, until the time is right – then hit your target so hard his family name falls out of the phone book.”
Posting videos of yourself on social media, waving guns around and yapping about ‘robbing white people’, seems to violate this rule.
Holds her gun sideways and pulls the trigger with her tongue.

https://www.npr.org/2026/08/17/nx-s1-5928263/cialis-viagra-tadalafil-longevity-heart-health
Tadalafil belongs to the same class of drugs as sildenafil, i.e., Viagra – with the primary difference being that its effect lasts considerably longer.
While both have been on the market for decades, a handful of large studies, many of them published in recent years, have shown that men taking the drug fare better: They have lower rates of cardiovascular disease and death, and are less likely to develop dementia.
Makes total sense, given when they were originally developed for.
Not a surprise, considering they were looking for a treatment for angina when they first tried Viagra.
Or you could just eat more fatty red meat.
If your steak lasts more than four hours…….
I see “The Troubles” with WordPress continue.
I think the WordPress devs are all seeing a hat – so it’s a feature.
New post is up.
Daily Fail needs editors:
New Yorkers sob as maniac wielding butcher’s knife is shot by cops on trendy Manhattan street as five are taken to hospital
They were sad his knife was shot?
How about “Knife-wielding maniac shot by cops on trendy Manhattan street. Attacker sent five to hospital”
