NYC Mayor Mamdani releases 9/11 records showing officials misled New Yorkers about air quality around Ground Zero
New York — New York City has released more than 170,000 pages of previously undisclosed records about air quality following the September 11, 2001, attacks, showing city officials at the time knew conditions around Ground Zero were unsafe to breathe despite repeated assurances to the public.
“As the years pass and the human toll grows, we reckon with the cost of September 11th whenever another New Yorker is stolen from us too soon,” Mamdani said. “Now, close to 25 years later, more people have died from 9/11-related illnesses than were killed on the day itself.”
At least 140,000 people from all 50 states have enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program, and 49,000 have been diagnosed with certified WTC-related cancers, according to the 9/11 Memorial. Mamdani said Tuesday that more people are eligible for assistance than are currently enrolled, including residents who lived near the site but have not received outreach and those who live outside of New York.

The Patternist books are not her best work. Some people prefer the Parable of the Sower and its sequel, but Kindred towers over them all. It’s the book high school and college kids should be reading instead of Beloved for the 6th damn time. (Avoid the shitty TV show. Damn, are we ever going to have decent SF adaptations again? Kindred is about slavery and the cruelty of it–one of the obsessions of modern audience writing–and they still fucked it up.)

Global warming strikes again
A large sinkhole has opened up up outside a house in Malibu reportedly belonging to Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage.

Anyone know why once or twice a year Youtube starts being cunty about the ad blocker? Like I know they don’t want you to use it. But it works fine. They do something on the backend that makes the site run like shit or stops the occasional video view, and then it stops after a day or two. I have to refresh like 20% of videos to get them to play.
