So last night I get a text from my son at the gym that I need to stop and grab a Mt. Dew for the wife on the way home. I had dinner done already so I dropped my sons off to get a post workout meal and ran to a Circle K. It was nice out last night, a really nice 68°. How nice? Nice enough for me to open the windows and sunroof. Too bad for me because this morning I discovered I forgot to close the sunroof.

…I’ve been meaning to clean this out anyways. Luckily, it has leatherish seats and the lesbian that owned it before me bought the Subaru branded rubber mats so at least drying it off wasn’t that bad. Please laugh at my expense.

¡enlaces!

This of course, being the source of the rain last night.

I’m calling it now, cocaine will be trafficked by Amazon Prime.

One day, we will stop Indiana.

This is too funny:

On Wednesday, the newly appointed head for the disaster preparedness and response agency said the government would request rescue teams from only four countries: the US, El Salvador, Ecuador and Israel.

Based….*checks notes* Lula? What?

Milei threatens the UK! Okay he’s only throwing his lawyers at them for now.

Yesterday, I had some time to kill with my oldest so we went to a guitar store near his high school. He didn’t know what to do, so I told him grab one, see how it feels, heard how it sounds, thats why they’re on display and not behind the counter. He looked at the stoner working there and got an approving nod. So he picks one eventually (an Ibanez) and I hear him hit the strings. By then I was probably 20 feet away on the other end of the store when I shouted, “Hey! No Stairway!”

He set it down realizing I set him up. This isn’t Stairway, but appropriate for today.

    Please laugh at my expense.

Can’t do it, as I’m still in the process of refinishing the window frames on my car, and we keep getting a little 10 minute thunderstorm, just enough to bloom a new batch of surface rust that I have to knock off with a wire wheel. On the bright side, I should be ready for Bondo, primer and paint by this time next week. Climate controlled garages should be a human right.

    • R.J.

Oh Lord. You saw all the rain coming tomorrow – Friday?

      • Pat

Yeah, we’re not supposed to get it quite as bad over here as you guys, but it’s still going to be wet. I might just either shut some trash bags into the door frames or park in my no-doors garage – it’ll still bloom a little rust from the humidity, but probably won’t be as big a pain in the ass.

Nolo and Polo? Whoever names these storms is really phoning it in these days. RIP bash.org

Who the fuck is the one naming hurricanes?

They somehow manage to give them the least threatening names ever.

If I turned on the news and heard that Hurricane Erin was coming I’d think to myself, “Erin? I could take that slut.”

If I turned on the news and heard that Hurricane Dicksmasher was approaching, I’d grab all the money in the house, shove it in my pockets, and get the fuck out of there.

    • Threedoor

I thought pacific storms were typhoons?

I hate that storms have men’s names now too.

      • Gender Traitor

        Why?

      • Evan from Evansville

“Why?” Like cats and the moon, the sea belongs to the female.

(To my SiL+, I’ve decided I’ll say “I choose to respect the ancient, indigenous beliefs of Greco-Romans for their contributions to modern society.”)

I tried to explain to the wife that all cats are female, and all dogs male. She isn’t buying it.

The storm is a stone cold bitch.

Rich Hall, American comedian who’s been in England for a few decades, he named hurricanes as a young man for the United States Meteorological Service. He was upset he couldn’t name one “Jugs” or something more frightening.

Mexico’s Defense Minister says 80% of the weapons seized from drug cartels are of U.S. origin, while the remaining 20% are from Israel.

So the remaining 20% is just U.S. origin with extra steps?

    • rhywun

They should make their own weapons instead of being dependent on more serious countries.

    • JaimeRoberto feckful & gruntled

I wonder how many of those passed through the hands of the police or military before ending up with the cartel.

      • Threedoor

        I’m betting most of them.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has announced a ban on online gambling, just days before an election in which he is seeking a fourth term as the country’s leader.

Without prediction markets it will be more difficult to determine how statistically anomalous his landslide victory will be.

one group of migrants, initially bound for South Sudan, were being detained in Djibouti. Those migrants were held in a converted Conex shipping container

      lol FAFO

Seriously… if you’re so awful the country where you are a citizen doesn’t want you, why should we have to keep them?

      • Pat

Those migrants were held in a converted Conex shipping container

Amazing how shit like container homes and “tiny houses” are pitched as the solution to the aFfOrDaBiLItY CrISiS for uppity “young” Americans in their early 40s whose median salary is 30% too low to qualify for financing on the median priced home, but it’s inhumane torture for our sainted “irregular migrants.”

According to USA TODAY Network previous reporting, Lincoln-Goldfinch said her client told her he was making a DoorDash delivery shortly before 1 p.m. on Sept. 20, when an unmarked black truck sideswiped his car. He did not know the people inside were federal officers and made a U-turn beneath a highway before the truck followed him and struck his car again, she said.

And we have what actually happened. ICE actually played this one well.

I always thought the buckler was too small but it appears effective hear. *pulls out pistol Indiana Jones style and shoots both of them

      • kinnath

This is choreographed and looks totally unnatural to me.

However, bucklers have value. Big shield is great, but it totally limits your visibility.

A buckler (or a parrying dagger) in the off hand gives great visibility, but better be pretty fucking fast if you want to actually protect yourself with it.

    Bold strategy

Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, took a surprising new tack during the first hearing after her mistrial. Instead of arguing she could not be held criminally responsible for the strangulation deaths of her three children, he argued Tuesday that the prosecution failed to prove she caused their deaths.

“Where does she say she did this?” Reddington said in court on Tuesday.

NewsCenter 5 asked retired Massachusetts District Judge Jim Barretto to respond to the change.

“I almost don’t know what to make of it,” Barretto responded during our live interview. “I’ve heard hundreds, if not thousands, of motions for required finding of not guilty. I never expected this: Attorney Reddington, while arguing that motion, actually asserted that Lindsay Clancy — or that there was no evidence that — Lindsay Clancy killed her children.”

Barretto continued, “That was a bedrock fact which he himself virtually conceded throughout the entire trial.”

    • Brochettaward

Basically, he’s feeding on the politicization and ridiculous support she’s gained online that wasn’t there before the trial hit the mainstream.

It’s smart as a defense attorney. With Trump commenting on this even to some degree, I guarantee no Massachusetts jury would vote to convict in anyway.

I guarantee they count every guard armory as well.

If the US had kept Mexico, Germany, Japan, Italy, the Philippines, Cuba, Belgium, France, Panama… and had gotten any oil from Iraq the argument that the us was an empire would hold water.

    https://ourcommunitynow.com/P/at-mexicos-2-legal-gun-shops-a-conflicted-view-of-firearms-is-on-display

No word on what the hundreds of black-market gun stores think.

    ***
There are only two legal gun stores in all of Mexico — making them destinations for customers from every corner of the country and an embodiment of Mexico’s conflicted relationship with firearms.

The Constitution enshrines the right to own them, and there are millions of weapons in civilian hands, with a black market flooded by American-made guns. But the two legal stores, military-run and tightly regulated, are emblematic of government efforts to better control Mexico’s guns.

Private security guards, sport shooters and others make strenuous trips to the stores, which look like a cross between a D.M.V. office and a small museum. Applicants need to present nearly a dozen documents at the stores — once they’ve waited a few months for approval to buy a gun.

Cristian Ulices Ocaranza Marquez, 32, a municipal police officer, rented a van with six other officers and drove eight hours from his home to Mexico City for guns. His state, Colima, has one of the highest homicide rates in the country, and he is barred from bringing his work gun home, so he applied for a handgun, waited three months for approval and paid $518. (The average monthly salary in Mexico is roughly $320.)

      So just like NJ.

    • Sensei

“If every supplier had a store in every state, who would have control?” said Col. Jesús Alfonso Nava Bustamante, who until recently oversaw approvals for buying a gun. “We maintain it here.”

Unitard sounds like a pejorative for political moderates.

      I kinda like it.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Sounds to me like they misspelled the word, and need to RE-try it.

      • Gdragon

“Unitards” would also work as a term for all of the employees and students at a post-secondary institution (possibly in a town that doesn’t have much else in it).

      • Trigger Hippie

You’d have to ask the OM for confirmation but yeah, sounds about right.
