The president of Cornell University, Michael Kotlikoff, admitted he knew that a student reported being gang-raped at a fraternity in 2024 — but he never followed up on the case.
Kotlikoff did not try to learn whether any of the accused men were punished, and didn’t know that the alleged victim had dropped out of Cornell until she filed a lawsuit under the name Jane Doe last month, he toldThe New York Times this week.
In the lawsuit, Doe alleges she was drugged and gang raped by seven members of the now-defunct Chi Phi fraternity in Ithaca, New York, in October 2024. None of the men have been criminally charged and all have denied wrongdoing.
Hardly the sort of triviality a conscientious university president would concern himself with.

Isn’t that a police matter? Shouldn’t he be waiting (and still waiting) to see if the allegations are true?
Two possibilities here: The president of Cornell was lazy and uninterested in day-to-day university operations, or the president of Cornell privately thought that the accusation was not credible and didn’t warrant any further action. I’d give fair odds either way.

Kotlikoff noted that he had created a task force in February 2025 to address sexual assault on campus as a sign of how seriously his administration takes the issue.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the leader of the New York City council have agreed to ban horse-drawn carriages from the city, a popular tourist attraction that has faced widespread scrutiny.
Mamdani has agreed to back a bill supported by Julie Menin, the speaker of the New York city council, that would make it illegal to operate horse-drawn carriages beginning in June 2028, Politico reported on Tuesday. The city council is expected to vote on the legislation next week.
“The horse carriage industry is coming to an end in New York City. Our administration will make sure workers and owners are protected and the horses are safe,” Mamdani wrote on X on Tuesday.
