Monday Afternoon Links

For the die-hard fan of Two Girls, One Cup
My mid-day.

I should be getting home from the ol’ colonoscopy by the time these links post. A joy of getting older, I guess. But my neighborhood takes these things seriously, as one of our best neighbors died of colon cancer at 48.

Enough of that – have some Links;

  • Why should they be paid if they never show up?
  • Just go here and drink the tears, read the excuses and laugh.
  • Fingers crossed for Yes.
  • This better not interfere with the production of batons kirsch.

No time for music or videos this week – you guys have it.

Comments are open and all yours.

    Happy colonoscopy!

    • UnCivilServant

I misread that as “Hippy Colonoscopy” and then dreaded to find out what method they’d use…

      • bacon-magic

A hemp rope with a hacky sack on the end.

      • Rat on a train

A camera attached to a long piece of kelp that you swallow over three days and then pull out the other end?

      • Threedoor

        THC colonic.

    • Brochettaward

One good thrust with a First would have cleared the colon for this.

      • bacon-magic

You have come out of the closet. That’s a First!

      • Brochettaward

Firster’s are not bound by your feeble and rigid sexual categories. A Firster does not engage in anything for pleasure besides, but only to be First.

      • Ted S.

Alleged Firsters don’t seem bound by proper apostrophe use either.

    • Shpip

STEVE SMITH, M.D., Gastro-enterologist get real good look.

And you will be awake whole time.

      • Threedoor

        Good ol Antharopost

    • Pat

I’m technically due for one this coming year due to family history, but I don’t think it’s covered by my current insurance, and I also don’t have anybody I could ask to drive me to and from so it’ll probably have to wait.

      • Threedoor

        Bro’ll do it for you.

      • Brochettaward

I think I have some rubber gloves lying around somewhere if it makes it feel a little more official for you.

      • Bobarian LMD

        Right there in your bath-tub.

      • Pat

The gloves would be more comforting if there weren’t two hands on my shoulders…

      • Brochettaward

Shoulders? Friend, that isn’t how this works. That isn’t how this works at all.

You will have to lock eyes with me the entire time. That’s non-negotiable.

Also known as the STEVE SMITH procedure.

  2. DEG

Sen. Samra Brouk, Assemblyman Brian Maher, Assemblyman David G. McDonough, and Assemblywoman Vivian E. Cook tie at 1st as the most absent lawmakers in Albany

I noted the parties. Bipartisanship in action!

    • Brochettaward

Does anyone really *want* them doing the job they’re getting paid to do?

    • slumbrew

Maher is a reservist who’s been deployed since last November, so I’ll let that go.

      • Gustave Lytton

        Who should have resigned.

      • DEG

        Who should have resigned.

        Yes.

  3. Ted S.

    Fingers crossed for Yes

We’re all rooting for Rick Wakeman.

  4. Shpip

Lechner, aged 65, had worked for Lindt & Sprüngli for 33 years and had taken over as CEO at the start of 2022. The company did not provide any further details regarding the circumstances of the departure.

A third of a century with the company and they just kick him to the curb. No wonder there’s no such thing as loyalty these days.

How is this guy supposed to start over from scratch at his age?

    • Threedoor

Probably didn’t even get a gold swatch.

  5. Shpip

In the violent clashes that erupted, law enforcement officers and protesters were wounded, public buildings were set ablaze and businesses were looted, raising significant questions about the French police’s approach to public order.

Sadly, none of those questions are in the line of “What’s wrong with using water cannons and live ammunition?”

    • Brochettaward

Flamethrowers and .50 cals. Though honestly small arms seemed to scare the browns more. Point a machine gun at an unruly pack of feral children? Nothing. The M9 comes out and they scurried leaving behind a trail of stolen MRE crackers and pop-tarts.

      • Brochettaward

I just got out-Firsted by UCS and I can tell you that is every bit as shameful as it sounds.

      • slumbrew

        .50 or Minigun?

      • Shpip

Supplement these half-measures by tasking a squadron of A-10s to Lakenheath. It’s only about twenty minutes’ flight time to Paris, and any unruly mob would only need about two seconds of BRRRRT! to get their shit together.

The French will be left to pick up the pieces (literally!) and they’ll be thankful for it.

      • Bobarian LMD

        You, this is Me.

        Call for Fire, over.

HE, White Phosphorus in effect. Out.

      • Threedoor

Overall I think the AC130 would be a far more efficient and effective platform for that kind of target than an A10.

      • slumbrew

True, with total air superiority, the AC-130 gives you that great loiter time.

(TIL that only the ‘Ghostrider’ SOC variant remains in service, at least according to Wikipedia).

    • Grumbletarian

Switch from tear gas grenades to mustard gas. Maybe warn people first.

      • Threedoor

France has a longstanding history with mustard gas.

      • Rat on a train

Try a mix of Adamsite and skunk oil before hitting the hard stuff.

    • slumbrew

I was really surprised not to see water cannon already – do they no longer have those?

      • Brochettaward

Had to sell them all to fund pensions.

    • rhywun

I’m getting a little sick and tired of the “mass protests against the rising cost of living and in support of high school students’ demands over education funding” narrative. Believe what you see with your eyes and what they are telling you, folks.

      • rhywun

🎶 My favorite tune of theirs. 🎶

But I was expecting, “I Wanna Be Adored” from that lot of narcissists.

      • Pat

🎶 My favorite tune of theirs. 🎶

Probably mine as well, although Waterfall would be a pretty close contender, and I’m seemingly the only person who likes Breaking Into Heaven from Second Coming.

      • slumbrew

I’m just a basic-bitch who loves Love Spreads from Second Coming.

      • Pat

Good tune, although I always feel a little pang of guilt enjoying anything sacrilegious from my youth spent in church. There was an episode of Severance that opened with Love Spreads and concluded with Eminence Front by The Who, which took the show from 10/10 to 11/10 for me.

  6. DEG

    Oops

Cecil Abels announced he’s ending his campaign for the New Hampshire state Senate in District 6, saying he believes he does not meet the residency requirement.
Abels, a Democrat known in the community as the owner of MrSippy BBQ in Rochester, was challenging Republican incumbent Sen. James Gray of Rochester, who is seeking a fifth term.
Abels stated in a social media video that New Hampshire law requires seven years of residency before the election, adding he spent nine months living in Kittery, Maine, in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    • rhywun

      “MrSippy”?!

I don’t think I would bring my children there if I had any. Yikes.

    • Threedoor

That reads like an endorsement to me.

    • Pat

And when you step back and look at the whole of Rep. Liz Barbour’s record in Concord, something worth examining emerges — the remarkable degree to which her votes align with the legislative priorities of the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance (NHLA).

      *Gasps*
Scandalous! Where is my fainting couch?
You ever notice no such breathless articles are ever written about actual, unironical, no-shit Marxist and Marxist-adjacent pols? As if plotting to take over the world and leave you alone were a great terror than an ideology responsible for over 100 million deaths last century.

    • rhywun

growing wealth inequality poses a threat to American society

      Fuck off, commie.

    • R.J.

No sir. And all those “billionaire taxes” will magically apply to you and me.

    • RAHeinlein

“Kirby did not specify what wealth threshold would trigger the proposed inheritance tax or what rate he would support for a national wealth tax in the remarks cited.”

Glad he has thought this through.

      • Threedoor

Oh about ten million higher than his net worth.

    • Pat

Why would we want to vote ourselves out of Neu! wave?

    • Brochettaward

I’m guessing it’s just red meat for the commie fucks out there. Deflects from criticism his company is taking while having no impact on it.

Guy also started his career as one of those upper crust types in the military. Officer in the Air Force/pilot and then the Pentagon. Fuck almost certainly comes from money himself.

  7. R.J.

And the last words Swiss heard before he went under was…
“STEVE SMITH GIVE CHEESE MAN COLONOSCOPY. BY COLONOSCOPY MEAN…”

  8. Brochettaward

Some Charlotte cops got caught sending “racist” text messages. It’s being framed as some sort of competition to arrest the most black people. The implication being they were doing it without cause and not joking and engaging in pattern recognition that most of the people they end up arresting are black.

We’ll see. Regardless it’s the propaganda that will live on.

    • Pat

Eh, it’s not a good look even if it’s just bantz. We pay cops plenty enough money to expect them to comport themselves professionally.

      • Pat

Not entirely unrelatedly, and something of a pet peeve, not every instruction you give to a suspect has to be accompanied by “FUCKING.” E.g., “SHOW ME YOUR FUCKING HANDS!” “GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND!” “DROP THE FUCKING [OBJECT I’M PRETENDING IS A GUN SO I CAN SHOOT YOU WITH IMPUNITY]!” “GET OUT OF THE FUCKING VEHICLE!” Psych ward nurses making around the same average salary as a cop get to deal with equally unstable nutcases day in and day out and would get shitcanned immediately for speaking that way on the job.

      • Brochettaward

I’m not defending the cops themselves. The case started with an obvious abuse of power, though not race related. The texts were found incidentally because the guy outed another undercover cop to some friend of his with flock cameras.

But none of the actual texts have been released. this is taking place in what is quietly one of the shittiest blue cities in the country and has a revolving door for batshit criminals from some of the stories that have come out in the last year alone.

Cops joking about larger narratives related to race and criminal justice and noticing that they basically do just arrest black people is where my money is rather than any actual racist conspiracy to arrest blacks without cause. But that’s not the story we will see.

      • Brochettaward

Also, you can pay that demographic whatever you want. It’s still going to be made up of a certain kind of (mostly) males that aren’t that bright.

      • Pat

But none of the actual texts have been released.

Yeeeeah, in that case, I’ll believe it when I see it.

  9. Threedoor

I was woke. Up during a colonoscopy once as they felt that my heart rate was too low, after I warned them my resting heart rate was around 38-40 bpm.

    It was, special.

    • slumbrew

They woke me up during mine to take a look at the monitor.

“Clean as a whistle. See you in 10 years.”

So I got that going for me.

      • Pat

“Oh thanks, the suspense was killing me. I definitely didn’t want to wait until this camera is out of my ass to review the results.”

      • slumbrew

        Free tip:

I was the first of the day and the staff shared that it’s very much the spot you want (other than having to get up at 03:00 for the second half of your prep): “statistically, we’re more likely to miss something later in the day”.

Also “it’s nice to start the day with someone relatively healthy vs. a 89 year old with colon cancer”.

      • slumbrew

I got some lovely parting snaps to go with live video they shared.

      • Threedoor

        High five!
        Go team butt camera!

      • Pat

“statistically, we’re more likely to miss something later in the day”.

Not for nothing, but AI models are proving as good or better at such diagnostic analysis for several subspecialties in radiography/imaging.

      • slumbrew

Yep; this was a few years back but that’s a field that’s going to get seriously changed by AI.

      • Fourscore

89 doesn’t always mean colon cancer. Sometimes it’s prostate cancer.

I quit the colonoscopy business about 20 years ago or so.

Its always Roseanna Roseannadanna time .

Priest Dies After Crucifix Falls on Him During Livestreamed Mass

    • Pat

1 and 13 are doing something for me, and unlike several others in that list, appear to be fully biodegradable.

  11. The Late P Brooks

    Fire at will

The Supreme Court declined on Monday to hear a bid by a Democratic-appointed member of the National Labor Relations Board to challenge the legality of her firing by President Donald Trump.

The justices turned away former NLRB member Gwynne Wilcox’s appeal of a lower court’s ruling that said the Republican president’s January 2025 firing of her was a valid exercise of executive authority.

The court’s action follows its June decision backing Trump’s firing of Rebecca Slaughter, a Democratic Federal Trade Commission member.

Valid exercise of executive authority? Not when Mad King Donald rules by edict.

    • Pat

I wonder what makes this case different than Lisa Cook. The NLRB is ostensibly an “independent agency” no different than the Fed.

  12. The Late P Brooks

The legal fight over Trump’s firing of Wilcox and other officials has figured as a key test of his efforts to bring federal agencies meant by Congress to be independent from the president under his control.

Who should control federal agencies? Just let them run wild?

  13. Brochettaward

There’s a trend online and I notice it’s especially getting fed to me from the UK. Attractive British women going full based and spouting racist talking points. I kind of dig it even if I question if they legitimately think those things (especially on their own).
