There comes a point where you don’t have the luxury of being sedentary. The body locks up and everything starts to hurt. So the missus and I try and get to the gym several times a week. I work out with a trainer twice a week at his place, and then the local bougie gym a couple of times a week as well. The result is I feel better, I hurt less, I’ve cut back on the hypertension meds and just have a better attitude in general. It doesn’t matter how much or what you do nearly as much as it matters to just keep moving.

Links?

Ima just gonna leave this right here without comment.

I can already hear the rending of cloth and the gnashing of teeth.

There is no truth the the rumor that Trump has taken up the fiddle.

The Progressive movement started in the Republican party.

Soccer hooligans be all, “daaaamn”.

Deep State gonna Deep State.

That’s what happens when you put the pussy on a pedestal.

There’s no shrimp like Muhrican shrimp.

Okay, that’s good for today. Time to watch Boise beat up on WaSU. Peace out, Glibbies.

You’re all worthless and week.

    Practicing for Saturday Night Live?

Former President Barack Obama, appearing here Saturday at his first campaign rally for this fall’s midterm elections, characterized President Donald Trump as an agent of “chaos and cruelty” and a man of broken promises.

And in a particularly pointed criticism of his Republican successor, Obama mocked Trump’s ballroom construction and the gold accents he has added throughout the White House.

“Does anybody really think this guy in the White House right now is spending all that time thinking about these issues?” Obama wondered. “I mean, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovations. He should be on HGTV.”

Obama added a moment later: “He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory.”

    Har dee har har.

Now tell us how Amy Acton and Sherrod Brown are going to do anything but make things worse.

But a St. Louis Federal Reserve study has shown that by early 2024, Millennials and older Gen Zers had, adjusted for inflation, roughly 25 percent more wealth than Gen Xers and Boomers had at a similar age.

So the kids have more than their parents and grandparents did when the oldsters were twenty-five, but it doesn’t look that way — since they’re looking at what the Boomers and older Gen-X have now, not then.

They want the 4000 square foot home in the nice neighborhood and the cool cars and the travel options, but they don’t want to put in the 75 hour weeks for three decades to get that.

My wife crunched the numbers on what her little sister makes, 10
Or 11 years her jr VS inflation (after adding a few percentage points for the sake of reality) back to 2010. She makes almost twice what my wife was making then.

Gen Z has a higher standard of living than any generation that came before them at that age.

You would have them give up a shiny new iPhone every six months, a slew of subscription services, Doordash/Grubhub/whatever delivering them whatever they want on command, their and their PlayStation Switch360X in order to buy a 4BR-2BA McMansion with a two car garage and wraparound deck in a posh neighborhood??

      How.
      Dare.
      You!?

    • Threedoor

You too could be one of those bad decisions!!

  3. The Late P Brooks

Brown, who spent nearly 50 years in public office before losing his Senate seat in 2024, argued in his speech that “corruption is woven into everything” in Washington.

“Politicians who are supposed to be working for you are cashing in,” Brown said. “When they’re in office they play the stock market, and when they leave they become lobbyists.”

That must be why he’s so desperate to get his snout back in the trough.

      • DrOtto

Biden left public off worth what, $65 million or something like that? Plus the jobs program to help keep his otherwise unemployable kid employed. Selfless servants indeed.

      • Threedoor

        100% inheritance tax!
        It’s what they want.

      • Chafed

You’re thinking of the value of the deals Obama struck right after leaving office.

  4. The Late P Brooks

… the reason for this disparity is that older people spent long lives putting money aside and plowing those funds into appreciating assets.

As opposed to pissing away their money in the “experience economy”.

    • Evan from Evansville

Hey, now! This Millennial has had economic experience with five different organizations this year!

And honey, I’d love to plow my funds right through your appreciated assets.

  5. Mojeaux

Husband and I are diving into the lover of all things genre, Quentin Tarantino, with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which, I am ashamed to admit, I have not seen. Imagine my surprise when I see that Al Pacino can play himself LESS when it’s a director who requires it of him.

My husband was meh on Kill Bill, and he can’t remember if he saw Pulp Fiction, which means he hasn’t because how tf do you forget that?

Adjacent: He started Dogma, but didn’t like “the anti-God stuff.” I gently explained it was anti-organized religion, but he was all, naw bruh. Then I told him it was one of the most faith-affirming films I’ve ever seen. That gave him a bit of pause and said he’d take it under advisement.

I always said I wanted to be the Tim Wolfe of romance, so I fed my stuff to the new AI (Venice—privacy- and uncensorious-oriented, and broke up with ChatGPT). Basically, it said I have a decent Wolfe-ian foundation, but I’m affectionate with my social commentary and Wolfe is mean because that’s the fun of his books.

But it also threw in I’m equally Tarantino-ish because I’m unapologetically a lover of genre and I treat it with respect. I ALSO do the long extended conversation thing he does, which, yeah, I never really thought about it. Now, I know the AI is supposed to flatter you, but nobody else (present company excepted) is doing it, so I’ll take what I can get.

I don’t know where all that word vomit came from except my new W2 job has kind of yanked my creativity right out of my nose, and I’m trying to get some back. Or maybe it’s just exhaustion. That should let up soon as the transcription portion of my job gets offloaded to our US QA team.

I fired a few of my clients because I realized they don’t pay me enough to be that high maintenance and it pissed me off. I have a very long fuse and a very short temper, and that fuse was about 10 years long and the temper about an hour long.

And I still haven’t seen The Island of Dr. Moreau.

    • Nephilium

On the Tarantino front, True Romance and Reservoir Dogs are my favorites.

I like you Clarence… always have… always will.

      • Mojeaux

Adjacent the other direction, I loved Preacher, although my husband was like, “That is way too weird.” That was what was great about it. “AMC cordially invites you to participate in the absurdity.”

However, he really liked Sons of Anarchy and I could not stomach that in any way.

      • Threedoor

I made it about half an episode into Sons of Anarchy and turned it off.

      • Nephilium

        Mojeaux:

I’m a huge fan of the Preacher comics, the show… not so much. The first season dragged way too much, and was the basic story of the first ISSUE of the comic with later stuff pulled forward. Then it went way off script from the comics in bizarre ways. I didn’t mind Sons of Anarchy, but it went into absurdity as well.

In new shows, the girlfriend and I have been enjoying Cupertino. Premise is two lawyers get fired from a start up, partner up, and start going after tech firms.

      • Mojeaux

Honestly, comics is a format I never enjoyed. I don’t know why because they should hit all my dopamine buttons. Visually rich, good storytelling.

One fabulous storytelling format, which I can’t write at all, is country music.

      • rhywun

Reservoir Dogs is his best IMHO.

I really want to see Dogma – I like Kevin Smith’s stuff so it’s a shame I haven’t seen it yet.

      • rhywun

The commercials for Cupertino make it look super woke and preachy – I dunno?

      • Spudalicious

        Dogma is excellent.

      • Mojeaux

Really, REALLY good. I think it’s finally out on DVD at least. It hasn’t been available for years for some weird legal wrangling. I have it, natch. Got it when it was first out on DVD.

I love it when a director/artist really loves his subject/craft and you can tell he’s having fun.

      • CPRM

True Romance was more Roger Avary than Tarantino. (According to Roger Avary, he even has characters discuss it in Rules of Attraction)

      • Nephilium

        Mojeaux:

Dogma was unavailable on DVD for a very long time because it was financed by the Weinstein Company, with Harvey owning the distribution rights. Kevin Smith didn’t want any money to go to him, and was trying to buy the rights back for a possible sequel. When Weinstein went down, an investment group bought the rights and partnered with Smith to allow it back in distribution. It didn’t help that it was part of the Miramax collapse era as well.

I also have the Collector’s Edition first printing.

      • Mojeaux

That’s noble. Sucks to be people who didn’t get it when they could.

      • DrOtto

True Romance is my favorite movie ever. Reservoir Dogs is up there. The cast in both is unbelievably good.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown are the only two Tarantino movies that I can watch. I can only roll my eyes so much, so don’t bother with his others.

    • UnCivilServant

he can’t remember if he saw Pulp Fiction, which means he hasn’t because how tf do you forget that?

I can remember that I watched it.

Ask me what happened in the movie and I will draw a blank. Something about nonlinear storytelling.

      🤷‍♂️

      • Mojeaux

Yeah, that was AWESOME! Loved it.

    • Mojeaux

I swear, the 90s and early 2000s were just really solid years of innovative and creative movie-making.

With regard to that, A24 is proving people want different. I may not like everything A24 puts out, but I trust them to do smart things and take chances. (Honestly, I’m impressed as hell they trusted a 20yo with a shit-ton of money and he COMPLETELY understood the assignment, and also a 26yo, which is less imoressive, but still.)

And lastly, Angel Films is proving Christians CAN actually tell a good story and do good art.

      • Threedoor

What stuff from Angel do you recommend?

      • Mojeaux

Nothing specific yet, but their trailers (TV and movies) have me eyeballing their subscription sign-up page.

      • Gustave Lytton

Young Washington trailer got me interested in them. I have yet to watch a full movie, but the trailers do look good.

      • DEG

Young Washington trailer got me interested in them. I have yet to watch a full movie, but the trailers do look good.

        I saw “Young Washington”.

The history is pretty good. There are problems, like Washington being of the Planter Class would have been fine with the class distinctions. And I think Washington and his family were wealthier in his younger years than described in the movie.

        The movie looks good.

The story is decent. It relies a little heavily on people knowing who Washington is. The Drinker said that he doubt non-Americans will be as emotionally invested as Americans would be because the movie doesn’t do as good of a job building up the character as it should. Thinking back on the movie, I agree with the Drinker.

      • Nephilium

        Mojeaux:

The mention of Angel Films reminded me that the Daily Wire’s Pendragon Cycle series made it to Amazon Prime. It’s not terrible, but they rushed through the first book in a single episode. They did keep the tongue breaking names at least.

      • Mojeaux

I’ve long lamented that Christianity hasn’t produced great art in centuries. At least Angel Films appears not to put out complete shit because they seem to prioritze storytelling over preaching.

      • DrOtto

I saw something from Angel (but don’t remember what off hand) and liked it enough. I’ll give anything A24 a shot because of exactly what you are saying.

      • DrOtto

Also, Angel does the Dry Bar comedy stuff, which is great.

      • Threedoor

Doc, I didnt realize Dry Bar was theirs.

    • Gender Traitor

I ALSO do the long extended conversation thing he does, which, yeah, I never really thought about it.

Yes, I believe you have been known to do that. 😉️

      • Mojeaux

No, I mean, I know *I* do, but never realized I really like films with such things or that Tarantino (and Kevin Smith) does this.

Look, I just go along for the ride. Books, TV, film. Doesn’t matter. I’m not there to nitpick. I’m there to lose myself in a good story.

      • rhywun

LOL yeah about Kevin Smith. The dialogue he writes is completely ridiculous and I love it.

      • rhywun

I’m not there to nitpick. I’m there to lose myself in a good story.

        This.

      • Mojeaux

        Marked, thanks!

      • Threedoor

        I really enjoyed it.

The Japanese actors are all non English speakers.

They and Tarantino speek the lines of each others languages phonetically. It’s the best cheesy ‘dubbing’ effect possible.

    • Mojeaux

And I’m not going to say Brad Pitt is a genius actor (he’s a solid B+ consistently), but he chooses his projects wisely. I loved Bullet Train, for instance.

      • Gustave Lytton

It took me twice to watch it. I gave up after the first couple of minutes, but that is a fantastic movie.

    • Mojeaux

But here I am talking about movies like I know anything when Ted’S is around.

      • Ted S.

Mildly surprised nobody’s mentioned Jackie Brown yet.

      • UnCivilServant

        Forgot it existed.

        Saw it, forgot it.

      • rhywun

I saw Jackie Brown and it’s good but I don’t remember anything much other than Pam Grier’s hair.

      • Mojeaux

I’ll get around to it. I love Pam Grier.

      • rhywun

Robert Forster is really good in it too.

      • Threedoor

I remember enjoying Jacki Brown but couldn’t tell you a thing about the movie.

      • DrOtto

Jackie Brown is my favorite Tarantino directed movie. It didn’t hurt it was based off an Elmore Leonard novel.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Jackie Brown is his best movie.

  6. The Late P Brooks

And I still haven’t seen The Island of Dr. Moreau.

    Which one?

Tarantino- I watched Once Upon a Time recently. To my amazement, it did not completely suck, unlike almost everything after Reservoir Dogs.

I think the only decent Hollywood movie about making movies in Hollywood was Get Shorty.

      • dbleagle

I love “Get Shorty.” I loved it even more after living a few years in SoCal and having to deal with the edges of the industry.

    • rhywun

Look for Living in Oblivion – although I guess it is not a “Hollywood” movie. But it’s about making movies and it’s one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

That is an awesome movie. Made me want an eyepatch.

      • rhywun

        “That’s my fuckin’ eyepatch!”

      • rhywun

Also, great cast and great performances all around including Peter Dinklage before he crawled up his own asshole.

  7. Shpip

At a rally in Fort Myers, Florida, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a new voluntary label for U.S.-caught fish that the Food and Drug Administration began offering Friday, according to the White House.

The labeling program is part of the America First Seafood Strategy, an initiative aimed at restoring American seafood competitiveness.

The label is intended to help consumers distinguish American seafood from seafood caught abroad.

If this is just truly a voluntary truth-in-labeling law, I can’t get too upset about it.

America already has a robust fishing, aquaculture, and mariculture industry, and the marketplace has largely already sussed it out. You can get farmed salmon from Iceland, Scotland, or Norway — or you can pay more for wild-caught from Alaska. Same thing with other fish, crabs, clams, oysters, etc.

Same thing for crawfish, sardines, frog legs… if you want, you can even get Caspian Sea caviar from Florida.

There is one exception: shrimp boat guys basically outlawed the farming of shrimp in the US, since they couldn’t compete on price. Fans of Forrest Gump (the novel, not the movie) have a sad.

      • dbleagle

There are lots of shrimp farms in Hawaii. Another piece of evidence that the state is not 100% ‘Murican.

Was aching and sweaty at the end so that is something.

    • Gender Traitor

It’s important to have something that will motivate you to exercise.

    • Threedoor

      Yes.
I’ve been layed up going on 11 weeks and it’s killing me. My back and all my banged up joints are feeling it. I walk about half a mile before I do my PT everyday and it’s just not enough.

    • rhywun

That came out wrong. Two miles total – but the result should be worth it.

    • Spudalicious

As opposed to having it delivered by Uber? Yes.

      • rhywun

        Yeah, fuck that.

This place probably delivers too, though. If it’s free I might consider it but I’m not paying when I can walk.

    • R C Dean

Walking is easily the best single exercise you can do.

      • Sean

        I thought that was fucking.

So no Ron Jeremy films for you?

      • Mojeaux

I know ABOUT the guy, but the only thing I have ever seen him in was an episode of Hoarders, where he was trying to help a friend. Just a dude helping a friend. Kinda sweet, really.

“Far-left rioters throw rocks at cops as Paris descends into chaos…”

First time I’ve seen them described as such, even by the NYP. Europe deserves it, sadly. I hope this slap actually wakes ’em up. The Louvre or more would need to burn, perhaps.

Military Boards Go Rogue On Hegseth’s Transgender Troop Ban

    That pic JFC.

Everyone on those boards was summarily discharged, right?

    • Threedoor

      Prompted.
      It’s how the military works.

    • Fourscore

How about the run of the mill Southern troops? Are they on board with transgender? Does an infantry person in a skirt with an M-60, (if they are still in use) scare the enemy.? Does an infantrywoman get a change of MOS ?

      • Brochettaward

Look, the people who actually do the fighting in the military are by far the least consequential here. The military is there to prove things like equality between the genders and that dudes in skirts kick ass.

    • rhywun

I am in no way a military guy but Jiminy Cricket how is it not completely obvious to everyone that its mission should have nothing to do with DEI?!

      • Brochettaward

Once upon a time they “integrated” the military and mixed the races together without completely destroying the military.

It took an institution that the left holds in disdain and made it useful to their ends. They’ve never forgotten that and have used it to push every single hobby horse they have.

It was already excruciating how many SHARP power points I had to sit through pre-mixed combat arms units. Like it was as dumb as your chain of command literally telling you not to rape anyone on a regular basis as if that’s the problem. I can guess how bad it’s gotten since.

  15. UnCivilServant

    😑

So, I wasn’t able to find my leatherman with pliers. It’s been missing for months. I figured I’d order a new one. No biggie.

It arrived today. Somehow I ordered an ungaily large model that just feels fuckoff huge. It’s objectively not, but I really should read the product descriptions more closely.

    • Gender Traitor

Someone’s Law (Murphy? Someone less optimistic?) says your previous Leatherman should show up any time now that you’ve bought another.

      • UnCivilServant

Poking around the Intertubes, I find other reports saying this is the substack. The author is not bad looking based on the pictures I could find, but not worth going to jail over.

There are so many options, but I put Obama as the worst president I lived under. Yes, I consider him worse than Nixon.

I had a bumper sticker printed up way back the first time he ran: Obama — Dumber than Carter; Dirtier than Nixon.

    • rhywun

Nixon was before my time (although I guess he was prez when I was born) but at least he did not strike me as a glib smoothtalker like that asshole Obama who hoodwinked the country.

Huh. Curious how they’ll spin this. Not an important place, but it’s really nice, and history, but bad person evil. I wonder what we’ll learn about the suspect.

“A fire swept through the mountaintop retreat built for Adolf Hitler and known as the Eagle’s Nest as emergency services struggled to tackle the blaze in snow and wind, and a man was arrested on suspicion of arson, authorities said Saturday.
    —
Prosecutors said the 33-year-old suspect, a German citizen who has ties to the Berchtesgaden area but doesn’t currently live there, was questioned. They said he showed signs of mental illness and he was being sent to a psychiatric facility, but they also would look into the possibility of a political motive in view of the building’s history. Police said there were no current indications that anyone else was involved.”

It’s nonsense. We’ll have to wait to see who the GOP runs in 2028 to find out who really is the next Hitler. Way too early for this.

I’ve been up to the Eagles Nest, riding up in Hitler’s elevator. If that is the only access, I can understand how it would be hard for fire fighters to put out any blaze up there.

Then again: “Macron says ‘racist terrorist attack’ in Trappes marks turning point for France
French President Emmanuel Macron described Friday’s drive-by shooting in the western suburb of Trappes as a “terrorist and racist attack”, saying it marks a turning point for France. One person was killed and at least four people, including a 12-year-old girl, were wounded in the shooting, apparently at random. Two of the victims have immigrant backgrounds.
    —
“What happened today marks a turning point for the Republic and our country. What happened today was a terrorist and racist attack,” he said.
Trappes mayor Ali Rabeh said the man was “firing at random, wanting to cause a bloodbath” as he drove through Trappes and neighbouring La Verrière. Most of the victims were from foreign backgrounds and prosecutors are investigating whether the acts targeted the “real or supposed race, ethnicity, nationality or religion” of the victims.
    —
Police arrested the alleged shooter – a 39-year-old man, according to a source familiar with the case – in nearby Coignières. Officers found him in possession of a submachine gun and tear-gas grenades, according to a police source.

He had also booby-trapped his flat with three gas canisters and electric wires “connected to a timer”, according to anti-terrorism prosecutors. Prosecutors said they had opened an investigation for “murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise”.
Laurent Nunez, France’s interior minister, travelled to the two affected towns. He called the shooting “clearly a terrorist crime”.’
    ====
The booby-trapped vest sounds terroristy. Also sounds false-flag to further spur Islamic hatred *against* the French. Cuz this part sounds like a personal beef or someone really really trying to piss people off even more:

“The 12-year-old girl shot eight times was “seriously wounded” but in a stable condition, the mayor of La Verrière, Nicolas Dainville, told AFP.”

    • rhywun

Who knows but I guarantee you Macron will talk about nothing else while his country burns.

      He must be thrilled.

    • Brochettaward

Compare how these cunts go out of their way to avoid using the terror word as it relates to violence from “migrants.” How they advise caution, hide the suspect’s race/identity, and say no motive has been determined time and time again.

Contrast that with this where they’ve rushed to ascribe motive to an attack. Even if the guy was in custody and shouting the reason why he did it, the reverse has happened plenty of times where some Islamic nutter is saying why he did something and they still would claim it wasn’t terror related.

      Fuck them.

      • Brochettaward

Everyone knows full fucking well that if a Muslim nutter did this they’d do anything to avoid using the “T” word to describe it to sum this all up.

I don’t want to see a child shot, but there’s only so much bullshit people are going to take. So much they’re going to see their country thrown into turmoil while cunts like Macron refuse to do anything besides give the culprits more free shit.

There’s a jailbreak on the latest Switch 2 firmware. No game needed (a day after the most significant break was found using a game to get in).

I just got called “delusional” because I suggested Nintendo or any of these game companies take a different tact. Like if what you’ve been doing to stop this shit for two decades plus now has failed…maybe the solution isn’t to do it more-or-or?

But yea, I’m excited. Can’t wait for CFW on my Switch 2.
