Cudgel, not coverup. This being used to attack opponents, including ordinary Americans by the deep state, not hide wrongdoing.

Yes, it is a cudgel. I don’t disagree with you there, but are you saying there’s nothing to cover up and no accountability to be avoided by those who knew exactly what they wanted to happen, turned down/away the National Guard, and likely were complicit in having the Capitol police invite and escort the “rioters” inside?

    • blackjack

My aftermarket ECU has a cutout switch that puts the factory tune back in. Easy-peasy. That’s the thing about ECU tunes – you can put them in and take them out no problem. Unless. . . .

Mrs. Dean’s aftermarket ECU runs her supercharger, so I’m not sure it will even work if you hit the cutout switch.

      • blackjack

I have a switchable tune. I just got smogged two weeks ago and the tester told me that there’s a new requirement that you drive at least 50 miles after clearing codes. I’m going to assume I have to drive with it switched to stock tune. I assume that any parameter which falls outside of the stock window will show up, regardless if it’s switched to stock or not. At least I have two years before this is an issue. Not sure if the switchable tune is detectable or not when not switched. Fuck I hate these people. And just to stop .04% of the cars from running better. Bastards.

      • Sensei

Really it’s about you thumbing your nose at the state.

My guess is they say “50 miles” because that is easier than saying all the emissions monitors must be set. I seem to recall that last time I checked either one or two can be “not ready”, but none can show as failed.

I know this because NJ follows the CARB rules on this…

      • blackjack

No. In Cali, all monitors must be set except for evap, which takes a crazy amount of cycles to set, and no codes present. The miles requirement is new this time. I’m guessing that they will use the data from the 50 mile drive to determine if any parameter was outside of the stock range. I think it means you need to drive for 50 miles with a stock tune in order to pass. I get kinda scared because my tune is switched by the cruise control switch. If the tester turns the cruise off, it goes to performance mode. And the light is on on the switch, which is located on the steering wheel. Bump it just right and it switches tunes.

      • Sensei

        Good Lord what a PITA.

      • blackjack

It looks like they are just checking the “CVN” and the tune I have is alleged to not alter that. I’ll report back in two years if it works. I’m sure they will find a way to maybe cross check my browser history and use that to impute the tune on my car. Cali is evil and they always get worse.

      • Gustave Lytton

Such concern about energy efficiency appears to be appropriate given the findings of a 2015 Semiconductor Industry Association report [PDF] that, given a benchmark system of 10-14 Joules/per bit transition, “computing will not be sustainable by 2040, when the energy required for computing will exceed the estimated world’s energy production.”

Current processors operate at about ~10-17 J/bit, which the SIA considers to be a workable target for more efficient computing, though the group said in a more recent report, “Revolutionary changes to computing will be required soon.”

Not to worry. We’ll transition to abacuses in caves by then.

      • R C Dean

computing will not be sustainable by 2040, when the energy required for computing will exceed the estimated world’s energy production.

If they were assuming the Greens get their way and de-carbonize/de-energize the grid, this is probably true. Of course, the world’s baseline energy production will be much lower than today, if the Greens get their way.

      • Gustave Lytton

Decarbonizing the grid makes me think of applying more voltage to burn off built up ash.

      • Rebel Scum

If that process wasn’t already strict enough, California’s new testing procedure won’t just measure emission levels and ensure that monitors are set, but will also check to see if any software in the vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) has been tampered with—more on how this is done later.

Then how am I supposed to build a ten second car?

Evidently Simone Biles pulled out for “emotional reasons” not due to injury. I guess because she wants to light the cauldron in LA in 2028.

This shit is starting to become legitimized. This whole pulling out mid-event because of fee-fees. Even 5 years ago, this phenomenon would be called what it is… mental weakness.

    • R C Dean

When it became apparent that even the judges couldn’t drag her to gold medals when she was off her game . . . .

      • trshmnstr the terrible

If she had said “I was off my game and this is a team event, so i didn’t want to drag my teammates down by scoring like shit today” I’d have a ton more respect for her.

      • juris imprudent

She still had better scores then them – they just weren’t up to her usual standard.

      • R C Dean

After seeing her qualifying scores, I have to wonder if she earned better scores than her teammates. She certainly didn’t in qualifying. If anything went on behind the scenes, it may well have been “We just can’t keep juking your scores like we have.”

      • Master JaimeRoberto (royal we/us)

Due to degree of difficulty she starts with a higher baseline. So even if she’s making mistakes like stepping out of bounds, she still comes out well because she’s doing stuff nobody else even tries.

      • R C Dean

On the floor qualifying, I believe I saw that her execution scores were higher, and they seriously underpenalized her. Stepping off the mat is a 0.3 penalty. Every “wrong” step is a 0.1 penalty, and she took 4 steps to get back on the mat and reset. They penalized her the 0.3. Caveat: I may not understand the rules, but that’s how they were described. I note that the announcers seemed taken aback by her final score, but quickly moved on.

    • CPRM

Regarding athletes and their fee-fees; the assumption is baby Favre Aaron Rogers is mad they didn’t discuss drafting Jordon Love before the pick was made, not mad at the pick. But, given the way he has behaved this off-season, I’d say that’s the right call. If they had let him in on it he probably would have leaked it somehow to fuck them over, because he’s a total bitch boy. It’s not like he had missed games in recent years from collar bone injuries and leg injuries and they cycled through back-ups like Winston’s Mom does diaphragms trying to salvage those seasons.

      • WTF

Was supposed to be a reply to RC Dean.

      • R C Dean

She was the favorite to win women’s gymnastics, which made her the Princess of the Olympics. It became apparent during qualifying that she wasn’t up to it, at least not for this competition. The judges gave her a pass on her botched floor routine, but it turned out that wasn’t a one-off. I imagine the pressure she was under would snap the spine of most people. Throw in being off her game, and I’m not surprised she cracked.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Yup. There isn’t really an American “star” at these Olympics besides her, so NBC has been slobbering all over her for months.

She’s under very real pressure from all sides, so being overwhelmed is excusable. Pulling out mid-competiton less so. She and her handlers/family/coach should’ve been putting up guardrails for the media months ago.

      • rhywun

Merry Lou? Someone didn’t play enough Ricky Nelson at the old job.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I think that’s probably right. At least, she should be in the conversation. She is a ball of muscle, which means she can get higher in the air than the waify girls, which means she can do more difficult sets.

90% performing Simone Biles wins gold in every event she competes in during these Olympics by a wide margin. She could have nearly single handedly carried the US team to gold, too.

Obviously, it’s hard to tell what’s going on based on a couple social media posts, but I’m guessing something happened behind the scenes and this isn’t just “not feeling it, so I’m pulling out”. If Osaka hadn’t been so lauded for her antics, I’d be more confident that there’s something going on behind the scenes for Biles, but Osaka’s treatment makes me wonder if this is becoming a thing.

Maybe the athletes who want the rest of us to treat them like they’re special can meet the same standard.

    • CPRM

      it’s her damned job

Is it? this what confuses me on the Olympics and their sporadic ‘amateurism’ rules.

      • wdalasio

Per morning comments, how bad does it have to get before Cabinet tries to invoke the 25th on Joe? At some point, deals will start being done so that cabinet people look like heroes “defending our democracy” and not back stabbers. And the media will go all “dementia is not a joke, we must be sympathetic to the heartbreak that Joe and DOCTOR Jill are going through, and this has no reflection on the Democrat party’s choice of candidates in 2018.” Will it take a complete meltdown at a press conference or meeting with a foreign leader to do it, or will enough shit go down behind the scenes that the cabinet will act?

    • R C Dean

Per morning comments, how bad does it have to get before Cabinet tries to invoke the 25th on Joe?

It will never happen. Apparatchiks don’t embarrass the Party. If it gets bad enough, Joe will “gracefully” retire. The only issue will be the price paid under the table. Pay no attention to the newfound wealth and status of Fraulein Doktor Jill.

      • CPRM

Dr. Jill is already more beautiful and deserving of being on the cover of fashion mags than that vile creature that was married to Secret Nazi President. She’s perfect, no need for politics to play a role in her wealth and status.

    • Gustave Lytton

Let’s see. Reagan kept on while Alzheimer’s was taking hold, in the face of media and political opposition so with favorable winds, I’d say never.

There’s at least three different interest groups, with overlap among each

      1) the principals (Joe, Kamala, cabinet secretaries)
      2) staff/synchophants/patrons/cheerleaders of different factions
      3) permanent bureaucracy of the government and politics (largely indifferent to whose portrait is on the picture lineup as long as they can do what they want)

I’d suspect about never. Whoever has the real power now (my money would be on Ron Klain) kind of has the ideal situation for the power-worshiping sociopaths. Biden serves as a figurehead while he rules and few people know who he is. And it gets better!

Officer Fanone urges the January 6th Select Committee to investigate the rhetoric that incited people in the days leading up to January 6 and whether there was collaboration between GOP elected officials and insurrectionists

Time to round up the opposition to the regime.

      • Gustave Lytton

Is Fanone the one who used his badge and official position to attempt to intimidate and extort members of congress? Or was that some other capitol police officer?

      • Rebel Scum

        I hate everyone.

Officer Dunn: “Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are being lauded as courageous heroes. And while I agree with that notion, why? Because they told the truth? Why is telling the truth hard? I guess in this America, it is.”

      • Rebel Scum

Officer Dunn: “There was an attack carried out on January 6, and a hit man sent them. I want you to get to the bottom of that.”

        Twas Drumpfler who dun it.

      • Ownbestenemy

I applaud your fortitude here Rebel, but maybe go watch some kittens sleeping to ensure future sanity

        Honk Honk.

It’s clowns all the way down.

    • Master JaimeRoberto (royal we/us)

Is it possible that they actually believe their own bullshit?

      • The Other Kevin

I believe they do. But to be honest, if I had myself convinced every Trump supporter was a violent white supremacist neo-Nazi gun nut, I’d get all worked up about those protesters too.

      • blackjack

The only one’s who believe this shit are the ones who have abdicated their decision making to the powers that be. They believe whatever they are told to believe. There’s no way these people actually buy any of this. The same way Hitler never believed the commies were going to burn everything down and take control of the riechstag. His acolytes kept their mouths shut to avoid the consequences, they didn’t buy it either.

    • Ownbestenemy

“And we have to get in those communities, and we have to knock on those doors, and we have to convince people, and put them in a car and drive them and get that vaccine in their arm. That is the mission,”

      El oh fucking el.

It would be absolutely *delicious* if they had to change it again.

      • R C Dean

I’d love to be they guy holding the trademark to “Cleveland Guardians”. I think I would just ask them to make an offer, look at it, and say “Add a zero. Maybe two.”

The stunning incompetence of rolling out a major new brand without doing the slightest research . . . man, that’s a firing.

  20. The Late P Brooks

If we deem elections illegitimate merely because they didn’t go our way … then God help us.

Something something Rooshunz dun stold muh president!

Double plus good on the ‘Predator’ reference.

    It was duly noted.

  23. Sean

    I’m gonna need more tinfoil.

The new CDC approved rapid response test will cull the flu cases from false positives; that approach will automatically drop the number of new COVID cases identified. The Biden regime will then say the drop in new COVID cases is because of the forced vaccinations in major populations (VA, NYC and CA). As a result, everyone must get vaccinated because the added vaccinations are lowering the COVID cases, and the statistics will prove it.

    Can you see it now?

This false assertion, driven by organized manipulation of events, will then increase pressure on the remaining public to get vaccinated.

The drop in COVID positive cases will create the momentum for additional COVID vaccination mandates.

If we thought the pressure to vaccinate is bad now, we haven’t seen anything yet. It is going to get ugly, with threats of federal reimbursement dollars (medicare, medicaid, food and housing) withheld from states as leverage against Red State governors who do not mandate vaccinations. Vaccination passports are a guarantee in this approach; possibly even federally mandated in order to “safely vote” in the 2022 mid-term election; and the unvaccinated fear will guarantee mail-in ballots again.

    • Ownbestenemy

They are already floundering on the upcoming CDC mask mandate and it is once again speaking out of both sides of its mouth.

CDC: Masks indoor even for vaccinated – Headline#1

CDC: Vaccinated ‘breakthrough’ cases extremely rare – Headline#2

They only get away with it because the media needs the panic-porn.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

In which case, they don’t know what civil disobedience is yet.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Virginia has elections this November. I predict that this tack along with the other batshit insane stuff they’ve been doing statewide will end in a rout of Democrats. At least I would hope so.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

I don’t know. I think they’ve crossed a line. There’s going to be a lot of “surprised” parents come Fall when they realize the state mandated that bopys only need to affirm their identity to be allowed into the girls locker room.

      • blackjack

I can’t count the times I’ve felt that same thing, going all the way back to the late eighties. Look where we’ve gotten to since then.

      • R C Dean

I assume VA, being completely controlled by Dems, has kept the ‘Vid election protocols in place. So, I’m having a hard time seeing Dems routed in a highly insecure election where they count the votes.

    • EvilSheldon

I *am* selfish. I consider it one of my best traits.

    • R C Dean

The new CDC approved rapid response test will cull the flu cases from false positives; that approach will automatically drop the number of new COVID cases identified.

IOW, the ‘Vid numbers included flu cases, and were thus overstated. Quite the admission.

I’m having a hard time seeing a crash in reported ‘Vid cases creating massive pressure for more vaccinations. The current pressure is based on the increase in ‘Vid cases.

      • Sean

“They” have no shame and can turn the narrative on a hairpin corner at speed.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

In preparation for this change, CDC recommends clinical laboratories and testing sites that have been using the CDC 2019-nCoV RT-PCR assay select and begin their transition to another FDA-authorized COVID-19 test. CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. Such assays can facilitate continued testing for both influenza and SARS-CoV-2 and can save both time and resources as we head into influenza season. Laboratories and testing sites should validate and verify their selected assay within their facility before beginning clinical testing.

That’s a hell of an admission.

Waiting for the quarantine period to pass from the ‘vid?

        *shrug*

    • Mojeaux

I would have liked to read that article but all the loading ads and the article jumping all over the place made me enraged, so I clicked out.

  24. The Late P Brooks

I’m having a hard time seeing a crash in reported ‘Vid cases creating massive pressure for more vaccinations. The current pressure is based on the increase in ‘Vid cases.

I think the reasoning there is they will make the claim that “cases” are falling because of coerced vaxxing, which proves it worked and we must do it some more, only harder.

    • R C Dean

Sure, but flogging countermeasures to a declining “crisis” is going to be a really hard sell.

Hell, even my boss, who marinates in DemOp panic porn, thinks this will recede no matter what by October, maybe November.

  25. The Late P Brooks

Where are all the girls clamoring to be granted their right to shower and dress with the boys?

    Huh?

What do we want? SHOWER EQUITY! When do we want it? NOW!

    • blackjack

If we let the girls peek in on us guys showering, then the whole thing would be wash.

      • Ownbestenemy

Nothing boosts a young boys ego than teenaged girls pointing and giggling.

      • Master JaimeRoberto (royal we/us)

The chances of that happening are shrinkingly small.

Sometimes Twitter gives us reason to check it and that was it.

      • R C Dean

Seriously. He shoots his career in the head, dismembers the body, puts the body parts in a dumpster, puts the dumpster in a barn, loads the barn a barge, sets it on fire, and runs the barge onto a reef where it capsizes and sinks.

Which do you think got him fired? Calling the swimmer a dyke, or asking if the team from Ghana was the cast of Hamilton?

    • Timeloose

      That’s Tim Dillion’s voice. He’s a comedian.

      • R C Dean

Well, dang. Still pretty damn funny.

      • Ownbestenemy

Should have taken your own advice from above about twitter 🙂

      • R C Dean

Hey, my advice is for other people to follow.

    • OBJ FRANKELSON

      That was amazing!

That guy needs a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
