Tonight?

What is today about? This.

But when celebrating, please do not do this.

OK, some immigrants like their new home and they did this.

This is ‘murica!

I don’t know if the Zoom is still running – I will rely on the commentariat to provide the link…because the comments, they are all yours.

P.S. I am observing the 48 hour rule re: Highland Park, IL. But you don’t have to.

I am observing the 48 hour rule re: Highland Park, IL.

Me too. I wonder how long until the bodies start getting stood on, though. Or maybe it’s already started…I’ve been out in the shop making money. Just an oblivious capitalist. Murica!!

    • Chafed

      🤘

    • juris imprudent

It will largely depend on who did the shooting. BIPOC and the story is buried faster than a (((corpse))).

      • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

This. And it is the way I am betting.

      • Swiss Servator

Local TV source says 19-21 thin white guy.

        But, you know, 48 hours.

      • juris imprudent

Well, then the story may have some legs. We shall see.

      • Ted S.

It was Indiana guns, just like in Copenhagen yesterday.

      • hayeksplosives

I just read an update “article” in DailyMail that describes his firearm variously as “high powered rifle”, “automatic rifle”, and “semiautomatic rifle.”

Considering that the perp left it behind when he fled, it should be a rather simple matter to identify it correctly.

      • JasonAZ

Simple for you and me? Sure. For MSM that is completely ignorant of guns, it’s just an icky, weapon of war.

      • Gustave Lytton

Quite convenient that it was left behind. Or the guy is an idiot.

      • Rat on a train

I read one description from on on-the-street expert who said it couldn’t have been a rifle because it fired too rapidly. It must be one of those fully-semi-automatic assault thingies.

    • rhywun

I was working in my shop* too.

Ilhan Omar getting booed at a Somali music festival is the shiznit. G-d bless America.

    • MikeS

      Yeah, that made my day.

    • Not Adahn

It is not immediately clear what prompted the boos, but a Newsweek article said that some people suggest it was related to the Somali-American congresswoman’s support for abortion and LGBTQ rights.

Minnesoda is full of racist white trumpaloes. It is known.

      • hayeksplosives

There’s no shortage of reasons to boo Omar. She never passes up an opportunity to diss Minnesota, she married her brother (immigration fraud is the most charitable explanation), she had an affair with a married campaign staffer (her current husband), she acts like she is the Queen of the Somalis and presumes to speak for them all, as if they are a monolith, and she summed up 9/11 as “some people did some things.”

But in this case it simply might be that it was a music concert and—shocker!—not everyone wants to mix politics in with their entertainment.

      • cyto

The video clearly shows black faces booing and giving her the thumbs down from the moment she takes the stage. And only she gets the boos.

It is her they are going. Not simply the interruption.

      • rhywun

“some people suggest” – rock-solid journalisming

    • juris imprudent

I love that she was smiling and asking for quiet like the crowd was cheering. What a maroon.

    • westernsloper

      Made me chuckle.

    • JasonAZ

Sadly, she’ll likely get re-elected quite easily. She shits on American at almost every opportunity, but the progressives just love it. They really do hate our country. Not the government, mind you, but they hate the Constitution and the idea of a free country. Conservatives have their flaws, but the progressives are really showing their true colors. Vote accordingly.

      • TARDis

        Vote accordingly

I will, because I’m accustomed to being disappointed.

      • JaimeRoberto (shama/lama/ding dong)

You vote for the Cleveland Browns?

    • Rat on a train

      Somalis are libertarian, you know.

Florida man gets hand blown off by fireworks

Something to consider: the graduate medical education year starts on July 1. So if you decide to have an Independence Day mishap, be it fireworks, catching a boat prop, rolling your ATV, or whatever… the resident who will see you at the ER has likely been on the job for about three days.

    • Sensei

This is why I hang out here.

    • Sean

      News you can use.

O/T @Ted’S: Watching 1776 and NOW I get your “To the right” comment from this morning. I honestly didn’t remember that number – the one TCM Ben says Nixon wanted cut from the movie. I wonder if I’ve seen versions without it.

    • Gustave Lytton

      *deleted comment about Mankiewicz*

      Happy Fourth!

    • Gender Traitor

I’ve decided to buy the 50th anniversary director’s cut Blu-Ray that came out at the end of May… before the whole thing gets cancelled/ Clintoned /memory-holed as glorifying inserreckshun.

    • Ted S.

I don’t recall if the airing I recorded had an introduction, but I remember from watching that that one song was particularly jarring.

  6. Not Adahn

Roast is up to 61 degrees internal temp. I thought you should know.

    • TARDis

What is doing, sitting on the counter? Get that thing cooking already.

Tonight is leftovers night for us. So much food to eat, it’s like a buffet up in here. God bless America.

      • Ted S.

        61℃, so 142 ℉.

      • TARDis

        Rest that meat already then.

      • Aloysious

        That’s what she said.

    • Sean

Grilled both tri-tips at lunchtime today. I’m done cooking for the week.

    • JasonAZ

You tease! What kind of roast? Are you smoking it? If yes, what type of wood? Details man, details.

    • Tulip

My neighbor smoked a pork shoulder for me today. Yum.

      • Not Adahn

It was a bottom round that I previously sous vided to make roastable. I used a stainless skillet as the roasting pan to make gravy production easier. At the same time, I roasted a cauliflower. I have learned from previous experience that when I roast a cauliflower, I eat the cauliflower, so I invented the Steak Bowl. It is amazing:

        Large Bowl.
        Fill with roasted cauliflower florets.
        Pour gravy on them.
Add slices of the roast beef on top.

I await my phone call from the Nobel Committee.

      • Raven Nation

        Hmm, that sounds good.

  7. Sean

I did, in fact, get off my ass today and went to break some clays. Yay me.

    • ElspethFlashman

      Yay !

      • Sean

        😃

      • ElspethFlashman

        Hi Sean !

      • Sean

        Hi!

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Counselor, hello!

    • EvilSheldon

Breaking clays is the most fun you can have with your clothes on…

  8. Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

We were supposed to go inner tubing down one of the local rivers, but, seeing as it is currently 71* and we are both still feeling a bit of the Ragin’ ‘Rona!!1!, it looks like tonight is going to be on the quiet side. And that’s… OK.

    • Ted S.

You go Toobin on the river?

    • Tundra

      Probably a good plan.

Thanks for the Lancia video! That was an amazing road.

      • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

The road is beautiful, and I am going to have to go check it out soon, but the way the driver pushes that car, from the squeal of the tires to the complete use of every bit of tarmac, that is the art of driving. And that is now one of my favorite driving videos.

        Also, Lancia. ‘Nuff said.

      • Tundra

There was a hairpin where he basically dragged a tire on the edge. I was waiting for disaster!

        The sound was gorgeous.

    • cyto

We were going tubing this week… Currently 51 with foggy rain. Fireworks postponed.

      Fun!

  9. Raven Nation

I don’t normally watch Shark Tank but the wife is a fan, so we were watching some re-runs with our morning coffee. One episode featured a 13 yo kid who ended up getting a deal for her product: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/13/shark-tank-teen-saved-thousands-for-socks-with-pockets-business.html

She saved $5k from her other jobs and won $5k more to start production. She was wanting another $30k to get things rolling. I have no idea if the company is still in business.

But, wouldn’t it be nice if the media could celebrate a few kids like this. I’m not asking them to dump all the grievance-mongering, but why not some good news.

Like I said, I don’t watch the show much, but at the end of that segment, the damned dust content in the room had gone up.

  10. Sean

OMG, traffic was so light when we went out this afternoon.

      • Sean

They should have had the shit kicked out of them.

      • rhywun

An hour and fifteen minutes to round up a bunch of ignorant commies. Sigh.

      • Ted S.

It’s the Beltway. Shut it down permanently and make every FedGov worker walk to work.

  11. rhywun

    This is ‘murica!

My immediate thought was, “That protestor would float away in a stiff wind.”

Eat a hot dog or two, bro.

    • Aloysious

That reminds me of a joke:

I recently hurt all three of my knees. I twisted my left knee, hyperextended my right knee, and pulled my wee-knee.

    • Gender Traitor

Wasn’t Nathan’s annual contest today? That would have been his big chance! (Not that he’d have had any chance of winning.)

      • rhywun

That’s the joke. 🤨 He was there protesting it.

      • Gender Traitor

Duh. That’ll teach me to read the links. 🙄

      • rhywun

        🤪

      • rhywun

  12. hayeksplosives

    Happy Independence Day, Glibs!

I’ve started watching The Orville, and I’m still in season 1. Last night’s episode was “Majority Rule” about a planet that is similar to 21st century Earth, but one in which a “social credit score” system is fully implemented and people can up-vote or down-vote each other according to perceived merit. A viral video can result in millions of downvotes rapidly, and if a sufficient threshold is reached, the person being judged will be “corrected.”

The episode aired in 2017. I thought it was very well done, and it’s certainly a cautionary tale.

    • Tundra

      What did the “correction” entail?

      Asking for a friend 😉

      • hayeksplosives

Electronic zapping of the brain until compliant behavior is achieved. More-or-less a lobotomy.

      • Tundra

Cool. I was envisioning a Clockwork Orange thing where you have to watch The View.

      • hayeksplosives

The episode had a show called “The Chat” which was a thinly veiled “The View”.

There may be hope that Seth MacFarland will come around yet. He occasionally displays flashes of realization that the Left can be a bit extreme.

      • Tres Cool

        Which platform is it on?

      • hayeksplosives

Hulu subscription, or one at a time rental on YouTube and maybe even Amazon.

    • Nephilium

The Black Mirror episode Nosedive goes along similar lines.

The newest (and last) season of the Orville has been hit or miss to me. First and most recent episodes were pretty good, but there’s been nothing great as of yet.

      • TARDis

It’s a bit too serious now, but we still like it.

      • cyto

It started as a Trek spoof, but quickly became a serious minimalist throwback sci Fi series.

Based off of the season 1 guest stars. I am convinced that he made the show simply so he could work with his friends and all of the hot actresses from his childhood.

  13. Brochettaward

I regret that I have one life to give to The First.

      • Sean

        😂😂

  14. Nephilium

The Zoom appears to still be running, so good on the lot of you.

I somehow feel this is a music link that should be done every 4th.

    • westernsloper

Deadhead and I are holding it down atm.

      • Nephilium

This should be it. Now that I have a good handle on it, this will also be the link that’ll be active the last weekend in July and any other holiday weekend I remember to throw it up.

      • Swiss Servator

Thanks – just nice to have it up for everyone.

      • MikeS
  15. ElspethFlashman

The heir and I viewed the parade in our local burb. We hadn’t been for 2 years so I’m Glad we ventured to try it out again. The highlight was the local
Chabad house float at the very end “celebrating our right to practice our Jewish faith.”
Dude was out in front of the float – dancing – with a full size Stars N stripes – to the tune of rap beats with Hebrew infused rock …

    • Tundra

It was terrific. Featuring the dude in Times Square was smart. That guy needs his own show.

      • hayeksplosives

Yeah, he was an unexpected ray of hope, especially compared to the twinks who didn’t know what the constitution is.

      • cyto

He has to be a plant. Braids, looks like a construction worker. Talks like he has a mouth full of marbles….. And is by far the smartest guy on the show with by far the best understanding of American government.

If average construction worker on the street was this smart, we would have no problems at all.

      • kinnath

Who was that guy? How do I get his newsletter?

      • Chafed

Somebody get him signed up here.

      • Tundra

Excellent GlibFit yesterday, Chafed. I was in the mountains all day so didn’t get to read it until today. Such an important and misunderstood muscle group.

        Thanks!

      • Chafed

        Thanks Tundra.

    • JasonAZ

I won’t lie, I gotta a little bromance with the black guy with the dreads. His delivery wasn’t the best, but the content of what he had to say was outstanding!

      • cyto

I kept waiting for the dark turn… And it just kept getting better. Reason needs to hire him. Way better than anyone currently writing there.

  16. Sean

Yo, ‘sloper. How’d that salsa come out?

    • westernsloper

No salsa, I made hot sauce. It is good.

  17. Gustave Lytton

Chest freezer is defrosted and refreezing. Tossed some outdated items and repacked into better organization. Next to clean the needles off the roof and out of the gutter, mow the lawn, and should be set for the week.

    • Gustave Lytton

Pulled a turkey out to smoke next weekend.

    • Chafed

      Salutes the flag.

  18. TARDis

Not launching fireworks this year. Sad. Hopefully some of my neighbors will.

    • Dr. Fronkensteen

The canceled the fireworks in my town due to the Highland Park shooting.

      • TARDis

Call me cynical. They have an excuse to transfer budget to somewhere else that benefits them.

      • Rat on a train

Out of an abundance of caution we are cancelling all public events until we learn about risk assessment.

      • Don escaped Texas

** too hot to clap applause **

      • Sensei

That check has been cashed by the vendor unless they negotiated for a rain date.

    • JasonAZ

Progressives are sick fucks. The blood hasn’t even dried and they’re politicizing the shooting.

      • rhywun

And they know their gun-gunning won’t do shit to “end gun violence”.

Ergo, that is not the reason they are calling for it.

      • rhywun

        “grabbing”, even

    • JasonAZ

Hell, this is a weekend worth of gun violence for Chicago, but crickets about that. Cannot talk too much about the black on black crime.

      • Tundra

        57 since Friday.

    • invisible finger

Jelly Belly can’t call for a ban on Ssri’s – the likeliest cause – because he depends on big pharma.

    • MikeS

      And there it is. CWAA

    • JasonAZ

LMAO! His gun-firing ringtone was awesome!!! Everybody in the room shit themselves, which was just icing. Albeit, shit icing.

    • JasonAZ

Damn, this explanation of taxes to the little girl was hilarious! Oh, wait! Here comes capital gains tax!!!

    • dbleagle

Great clips. Too bad he is a lefty in his personal life.

      • Tres Cool

thats why I ignore actors when they speak on social issues…..like Meathead

      • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

I think he is a TOS libertarian, so kinda there, but still on the lefty dole.

      • Brochettaward

The guy thinks Everytown For Gun Safety is on the reasonable side of the political spectrum. If Offerman saw his character being posted and praised in this hive of scum and villainy, he’d tell us all to eat shit as he did to the NRA. His politics are described as progressive by the likes of The Daily Beast. He described libertarianism as the stuff of fantasy (he didn’t even really know about it until he took the role of Ron Swanson).

He’s one of those lefties who will say he supports the 2nd amendment or doesn’t want to do away with it, but whose preferred policies would make it a dead letter.

He said that its usually easy for him to vote because one party usually does things he considers indecent.

No, even the cosmos at TOS aren’t like Offerman, at least not publicly.

      • Brochettaward

I should add, he also said he was excited for Hillary’s impending victory in 2016, that the only criticism of her was that she was a politician by career…

  19. Gender Traitor

Paging TO’G – just saw in the previous post’s comments that you have some “trifling recommendations” for me. I’ve been offline indulging my weakness for classic American musical theatre (“Maaaaaaaaaarian, Madame Libraaaaaaaarian”) but I am curious to know what you intended to recommend.

  20. Don escaped Texas

Bill Maher is not my boy, but he is slowly working his way through.

His attacks on the extremism of the Dem left are spot on. He can’t see that the thread through everything is liberty, but he at least he’s putting the redX where it belongs in practical politics. He’s after stupid alphabet wars, school shutdowns….practical normal stuff.

NewWife watches him from time to time while I play chess online (our American Gothic pose), and he’s just less annoying than he was three years ago.

Unrelated: it’s 83F in the house, so not a lot of fun. The condenser is rejecting heat, so there’s no reason to think this is anything other than a capacity problem; that said, we’re not in great stead for the coming two months, so I might be buying some more BTUH.

    • Ted S.

      Did you check the thermostat?

      • Don escaped Texas

        I would but don’t have any thermostat-checking gloves 🙁

    • R.J.

Oof. Check the attic for cool air leaks. That was sapping a lot of cool air for me last summer. Get the duct tape!
Bill will eventually say something to irritate you. It’s his job. I am glad he is getting back to his roots of skewering stupidity.

      • Don escaped Texas

        Checked ducting a month ago

FWIW, I’m a fluids/thermal guy; I’ve got grad credit in HVAC and have spent almost 20 years in the business

        favorite HVAC client: Volvo Truck
keast Favorite: no percentage in publishing that nugget, but it’s an admired German firm
most fun locale: Daimler winter test Bemidji MN
least fun locale: summer test, Galveston TX to Baker Grade, Death Valley, CA
best food: near Carrier refrigeration, Rouen, Normandie
fun fact: many bulldozer radiator fans blow forward to keep dirt from clogging them up
least favorite project: blowing fumed silica from a silo to a mix tank
favorite abandoned tech: ammonia refrigeration….it really worked

      • Sensei

Is ammonia still used in certain places? Food processing is coming to mind.

      • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

Ice factories. At least in SAC.

    • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

In the short-term, mist it down every ten minutes or so.

Worked for me when I ran into a capacity wall back in The Lower Rainland™.

      • Don escaped Texas

        usually helps

there was a time when I plotted psychrometric comparisons of the comfort of various Glibs’ ambient conditions here, but it’s not as fun and sexy as you might at first think

  21. UnCivilServant

Went to the grocery store a few days ago. Got pepperoni to make pizza and salami to put on salads.

Guess which ended up on the pizza?

    • Ted S.

      The pineapple?

    • MikeS

Hmmm…I’m keeping an open mind. How is salami pizza?

      • Not Adahn

Ought to be fine. Depends on the sauce you’re using. Probably some olives would be a good addition.

      • UnCivilServant

Why would you ruin it with olives?

    • Brochettaward

Do you have to disgrace everything you touch?

      • Ted S.

He wouldn’t be the first person to disgrace this board.

  22. Not Adahn

    Dessert time!

“We need a common-sense Republicrat who offers both sides half of the things they want. I am that Republicrat!”

      • Brochettaward

It’s funny because if Romney somehow won the GOP primary again, he’d be painted as a sexist fascist again. But he’s so desperate to please the left. I’m shocked he didn’t mention common sense gun control in that article.

What I don’t get is how he keeps getting elected. The guy has like 50% approval among just Republicans in Utah (I don’t even know how its that high – the rat fuck would sell conservatives down the river on just about every key issue if given the chance).

      • Ted S.

It’s his first term in the Senate. He’s up for re-election in 2924.

      • Ted S.

        Er, 2024, of course.

      • UnCivilServant

Not much difference as far as the incumbancy advantage.

      • Gustave Lytton

At least his dad could blame brainwashing. Mittens is an opportunistic carpetbagger but because he’s a Mormon, the voters turn a blind eye.

      • Chafed

Is there really no one better who is acceptable to the LDS church?

      • The Last American Hero

Have you seen his hair? It’s goddamn presidential. That’s how.

    • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

Holy fuck. The reason the reservoirs and lakes are empty is we don’t do anything to help refill them, all the while there are 25million people more in CA since gov. Jerry “the other shit stain” Brown stopped any new building going forth the first time he was fucking up CA.

My god, these people couldn’t find their heads with both hands if they didn’t have a lobbyist going down on them.

  23. Timeloose

Back from my parents BBQ. So much food.

My ribs were killer as well as two pork tenderloins. Center cut spare ribs with a dry rub pecan and cherry smoke. Tenderloins were a Cajun marinade and another with garlic and parsley rosemary. Same smoker as the ribs but primarily the cherry wood.

I never smoked the tenderloin before, but I pulled the off at 140 and let them rest for 20 minutes before slicing. It had a Canadian bacon like flavor with a herb or Cajun crust. I will be making this again.

    • Brochettaward

That guy stinks of squishy lefty socialism. When his motives start to become clear, I anticipate this being memory holed real quick. Yes, I’m speaking out of my ass and just going off a picture. But I’d put money on it.

      • Brochettaward

His target, the white suburbs, the day he picked? This little shit is looking to make a political statement, and it aint MAGA.

      • dbleagle

It will be memory holed by the end of the week. Hopefully he will be buried by then.

      • hayeksplosives

Buried or fed alive to the shark eating orcas of South Africa. I would buy the ticket.

And maybe an extra ticket for myself to watch.

      • JasonAZ

I agree, this looks like AntiFa soy-boy to me. It’ll be interesting what comes out in the next day or 2.

    • Ted S.

      Needs more tatts.

      • robodruid

        In jail.

  24. Sensei

    I’m an hour into

    Drive My Car (film)

I had no idea it was 3 effin hours long. It has won lots of awards and it’s got the arty foreign film vibe nailed.

I’m not sure if I can recommend it but the first 30 minutes was at least 60% sex with Reika Kirishima . Which those of us of certain age won’t mind.

      • Sensei

That’s pretty accurate in my experience.

      • Zwak, who swallowed your pain, and is asking for more.

There is a Japanese woman who lives in the house behind my rental unit, and has that just starting to turn grey hair, paired up with tennis skirts. I never minded chatting with her about neighborhood issues.

Whiz follows up his successful tourney title defense with a win on America’s Birthday. Quite an accomplishment.

We’re understandably a little light on participants today, go ahead and post if you play later and I’ll get it entered.

And now a “it’s hard to find good help” plea: I don’t really have the time to properly commit to helping Hyperbole with this…at least not during the summer. If someone were to volunteer to take over my every-other-week QDR duties, I and Hyperbole would appreciate it.

    • Brochettaward

I volunteer to help, and by help I mean I’ll say I’ will but then never do it.

      • MikeS

        Kinda like your firsting?

    • The Hyperbole

Unless someone really wants to take it over I’m good with putting a fork in this thing. Maybe once a month I’ll run a tourney or something.

      • MikeS

        UCS just got a semi’

      • MikeS

        Consider the fork stuck.

      • whiz

I would consider doing it, but I think it takes a lot of time for everyone to keep up with what’s going on day in and day out. A once a month tourney sounds about right. And if that happens, I think everyone, even the previous champ, should go into the bracket.

This sports writer was a lawyer by trade. But can’t see the glaring contradictions in his own arguments as he lectures people coming for football news about the American political system:

The problem is simply beyond our ability to properly diagnose and repair. We just can’t do it. We can try. We can make minor strides. But it’s never going to be conclusively solved because we lack the political will to do it. The people may want it, but the politicians we’ve elected will not do it. And those who think it’s simple to replace the politicians who resist meaningful safety laws that don’t prevent responsible gun ownership don’t understand how a toxically-flawed two-party system truly works.

You can’t do it because we are broken. Fundamentally and, by all appearances, irretrievably. Those who are supposed to be the best among us are the worst, selling out the lives of Americans for political support and acting like they have done no such thing even though everyone knows it.

A democracy is broken because politicians are making decisions in order to…gain political support. These democratically elected politicians are adopting a position that, according to Mike Florio, the majority of Americans oppose and to top it all off…WE ALL KNOW IT!

It honestly just makes me laugh to read his sophomoric political takes so I don’t get heated over it or stop going to his site even though it morphed from being a platform for football news and rumors to something closer to a news curation site. And given the recent blows to gun control delivered by the courts, I can laugh at it even harder. But it really is emblematic of the smug arrogance of the progressive left. All of their positions are just oh so popular and grounded in the facts and common sense. It’s just a shame that people keep electing Republicans to stand in the way.

Since he’s a lawyer, you think he would be familiar with the US Constitution and the definition of “shall not be infringe.” It really isn’t very difficult. Amend the Constitution to change the 2A or fuck off slaver.

There is no rule that a First has to be original. classics are classics for a reason.

      • hayeksplosives

Bro, have you ever been diagnosed with multiple personality disorder? Because you can be very clever, thoughtful, and original when commenting on this or that subject, but then you seem to revert to this Firsting obsession to the point that I really worry about your mental health.

Maybe you’re like Sherlock Holmes: brilliant but crippled by an addiction to a 7% solution of cocaine.
