The neighbors never intervened in the barking. One day my husband said to the “wife” (they were a gay couple but one was quite clearly the wife) “Ya know, there is a low-risk surgery they can do to de-bark a dog.” Wifedude was shocked and didn’t speak to him for months. Too bad the dog didn’t get the message.
So I got the ultrasonic bark deterrent. It looked like a birdhouse except that it had LEDs to show when it had heard a bark and was activating it’s ultrasonic deterrent. I put tape over the LEDs so that the neighbors wouldn’t catch on.
Life was much better.

I wonder sometimes about whether it’s wise to have large dogs in postage stamp subdivisions. Not that I’d narc on my neighbor, but her lab barks all day long and it’s about 10 feet from the window of my home office. Every car or person that goes by my (heavily trafficked, main neighborhood artery) street or down my alley results in 5 minutes of increasingly desperate barking. I never see them walking the dog or otherwise managing its energy needs, so I kinda feel bad for it. Still, it’s obnoxious that we can’t really open our windows and that entire side of the house is saturated with noise all day. Neighbor’s solution of telling me to issue a “no bark” command when the dog is going nuts is… a bit lacking.
I may research hayek’s solution to the problem.
I hate seeing big/medium dogs without at least a small yard to get out in. And I 100% sympathize with folks in your predicament. I don’t know a good solution to making dog owners be good dog owners.

I would not own a dog in a city apartment at all but I’ve seen it several times.
I don’t see why a dog is any different than someone revving their Harley or blasting shitty music all day and night long. If noise is a violation of others rights (and I’m not entirety certain it is) then keep your dog quiet or lose your right to own a dog.

My pup is 60 lbs and we have no yard. It can suck to always have to accompany her outside (11pm in February, when it’s raining sideways is no fun), but it’s part of the deal.
I can assure you she does not lack for anything. Indeed, I’m certain she interacts with more dogs and humans than a suburban dog does. That’s a big deal for social animals like dogs.

I may get a Y for my wife, but it still looks like a pregnant 3 to me and while I like the 3 there are prettier cars. However, the Y is amazing for interior volume versus size and practicality. It’s not much bigger than the 3, but holds much more.
We got the Y primarily so the husband can get in and out more easily.
The 3, the S, and the X are low to the ground. The Y is much more family or carpool friendly. Soooo much room too.

Over a year of work and effort is paying off. We now have 3 Disc courses in town, and 3 more in planning stages. I built our club, ran tournaments last year and we are on the map.
For a tiny town we are doing quite well, 31 club members, the City council loves the extra tourism, and we got our home course reworked with new baskets and a lot of volunteer mulching.
and we have sponsors! Dunegrass weed store, Authentic weed store and Pizza hut to sponsor tournaments, not too bad for the backwoods of Michigan.

I find one nugget in that article pretty interesting. The notion that while America is often times seen as leading the charge, our political class is largely beholden to ideas that come from Europe still. Trump was a short term disruption to their plans, the sort that occasionally happens, but they quickly recaptured control and things went off just about as they hoped. America and its people are the muscle, and the Eurocrats get to be the brains dictating things in the post-Soviet world.

I’d like to believe that a large enough portion of the population was able to notice the hypocrisy. I don’t even think this is a case where people largely said hey, you know what, fuck that idea of my body my choice after the vaccines because they decided to have consistent principles. I think most people have a complete hodge podge of ideas that they hold and really don’t bother worrying if they are contradictory in anyway. And a large majority of the population, particularly in blue states, is just fine taking away bodily autonomy in the case of forcing vaccines.

Yeah, I think you’re right about the idea that the vast majority of voters aren’t actively concluding that full abortion rights (including tax subsidy) isn’t something the government should be involved in at all.
But I do think on a visceral level, they kind of get the idea that passing more laws and ceding more power to the government is a bad idea.

So, the Game of Thrones spin off comes in August. Not that I think it much matters to many at this point – the show runners basically pissed on their own legacy with how they handled the final two seasons of that show, but it should come as no surprise to anyone that they have now decided to cast black actors in roles that are white. In many cases, you could at least make a legitimate argument that the race change doesn’t really impact the story in anyway.
But in this case, it will very much impact how the story is told because these characters who were obviously written as white are going to have children. The parentage of these children is supposed to be surrounded in rumor and innuendo. There’s supposed to be ambiguity in who the real father. You see, a white women is going to marry a now black man who is thought to be gay. She has children. It’s now no longer going to be in doubt that these aren’t his children, and it will be real interesting to see how they gloss over the fact that this is no longer just a rumor in the story but an obvious fucking fact that no one would be able to ignore.
This isn’t just a black elf in Tolkien. It fundamentally changes the fucking story.

And then there’s the direct issue of this being a mixed marriage between a perfect representation of both. The show is in the can, trailer out. The bride is pale as fuck and the husband will almost certainly be black.
SO, they are fucking with the much evoked lore of the story, but also a key element of the plot.

I don’t particularly care what proportion of any group is represented. My complaint boils down to three things:

2. You simply aren’t allowed to have white spaces anymore. The pendulum, in typical lefty fashion, can’t just come to the middle but must swing back completely the opposite direction.
3. This isn’t about representation of minorities or appealing to minorities to make them feel more included, but to appeal to the white progressive who feels a sense of shame in everything that is a part of the dominant white culture. They’re the ones who “diverse” characters, not minorities.
Why do we need to take fantasy stories with established lore grounded in European culture and fill it with minorities? If black people love the Tolkien-style fantasy so much, they will in fact make their own versions of said shit where they can represent themselves. If that’s what they want. Or maybe black people can take parts of their own culture and develop their own brand of fantasy, again if that’s their interest (my hunch is that there isn’t much of a market).
Black Panther did great with all audiences, but particularly blacks. And outside of eyerolling from people like me when white progs tried to pretend some dumb super hero movie was the most important film ever made, no one really gave a shit. No one was complaining that black people were being represented on film. Because that was a black character (albeit one made by white guys). Always was and always will be.
