Chewsday Morning Links

It’s chewsday, innit? The Browns traded Miles Garrett to the Rams in a blockbuster trade. AJ Brown is headed to the Patriots. And I missed the tennis yesterday, so I’m out of the loop. And that’s it for sports.

It’s a big primary day. Time for some over performing of expectations, which will result in a bunch of money being dumped into general elections people have no chance of winning. And that goes for both sides of the aisle.

No way does this stand. Unless every other excluded group, like those with asthma, flat feet, and the beetus, also have standing.

Principals over principles. I still don’t understand why they’re standing behind this imbecile. Do they have not other options?

I’m shocked! OK, I’m not really shocked. And you shouldn’t be either.

I know this sounds crazy, but I suspect there’s a scam going on here. Doers that make me racist? Or sexist? Oh well, so be it.

I’m shocked (part 2)! This one is even less shocking than the other one.

The horse has left the barn. I guess it’s time to close the gate.

I hope this is true. Because that dude has already taken advantage of us and now it’s gonna result in the entire government being run by communist filth.

Of course they want more. That’s how they got in the condition they’re in.

LOL, takes one to know one, I suppose. It’s not a huge story, but it sure is funny.

What an odd video. And I have no problem with that. Same for this one. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Chewsday, dear friends.

I said my good mornings in the previous thread, but it was already too late. 😞

      • UnCivilServant

        Good Morning, GT.

I’m still sleepy, but I’m connected to work.

        How are you?

      • Gender Traitor

I’m OK, but I need to get to bed earlier. I leave too many things to do right before I go to bed, so I drag my feet.

      • AlexinCT

        Sleepcastination?

      • UnCivilServant

I’m not a procrastinator. At best I’m an enthusiastic ameteur.

    • Not Adahn

I’m assuming he’s on UK time.

      • UnCivilServant

I looked at the clock just now, saw it was almost 8 and my brain went “The links are about to drop.”

        Too much conditioning.

      • Not Adahn

Whenever I see a Subaru ad, I think it’s lunchtime.

All of you east coast peeps are early birds.

  1. Gender Traitor

Sunny Hostin supports Graham Platner despite calling him ‘a liar, a racist, an antisemite’

Are we sure that’s not actually why she supports him?

      • AlexinCT

        Principals. Not principles…

    • rhywun

She is at least two out of those three and probably all three so yeah.

      • Nephilium

I’m waiting for the Democrat party to put “anti-Zionism” into their platform.

  2. Stinky Wizzleteats

“ban on transgender military service is unconstitutional”

If transgenderism is prima facie indicator of severe mental illness, and it is, it should be a legit disqualifier all the practical considerations aside.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Sure but to be fair I may have overestimated how difficult it is to adequately dilate one’s artificially crafted vagina while under fire at a forward operating base. Maybe it’s easier than I thought, you know?

      • Fourscore

There’s a certain pucker factor under those combat conditions, just sayin’

      • UnCivilServant

If they have to be in the military, concntrate them in forward assault recon forces which find enemy forces by advancing in the most flamboyantly visible manner possible.

      • AlexinCT

Who cares if these people become useless moral drains? The tax payer has to pay for their mental disordered wish list, and them actually doing whatever the military needs be damned. This isn’t about the ability to have the military do its job, but about social conditioning.

    • rhywun

I don’t really think it’s “mental illness” so much as confusion and narcissism. We don’t necessarily call people who pretend various other roles “mentally ill”.

As for the military, it is a behavior that is probably disruptive to their goals. Let them serve but kick them out if they cause trouble. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But as with every other issue, the left and the not-left are arguing past each other because the left has completely lost grip of reality.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Let them serve, but they must follow the military standards of dress, performance, barracks, hair and makeup for men, etc.

In other words, they aren’t snowflakes, and will be treated as any other recruit.

      • AlexinCT

Let them serve, but they must follow the military standards of dress, performance, barracks, hair and makeup for men, etc.

Actually this would be a fail. The problem isn’t whether they comply with SOPs, but if they will actually be there and of value during a conflict. These people will all end up being liabilities to their units as they will not be able to deploy for conflicts. Heck, the amount of women in the military that “suddenly” end up pregnant every time there is a conflict and the massive disruptions that causes alone should be proof this stuff should not be allowed. The military doesn’t care about your picadillos. It needs you to be there when the breaking shit and killing idiots phase comes to pass.

      • DrOtto

I think it’s likely a mental illness, and like most mental illness, it’s accompanied by other mental illnesses. That said, I think transgenderism itself is relatively harmless and I have no problem with crossdressing adults, what I do have the problem with is the “normalization” of it and parents (mostly mothers I suspect) pushing it on their poor confused kids. That is straight up muchausen-by-proxie.

      • EvilSheldon

A little too-local news, not for me, but for a shooting buddy:

        https://www.kgun9.com/news/community-inspired-journalism/marana/bullet-hits-playground-report-cites-police-errors-at-shooting-range

Word ‘round the campfire is, the police officers used the pistol range for their rifle training session because, “…the rifle range was muddy.” Then they proceeded to shoot at head-height silhouette targets from prone at 25 yards, which seems to be how the bullet escaped the range.

        Nice work, guys!

Somewhat surprisingly, the Sergeant in charge of the training session is catching a charge for this dumbfuckery.

      • Not Adahn

Somewhat surprisingly, the Sergeant in charge of the training session is catching a charge for this dumbfuckery.

But… totality of the circs! Based on my training and experience! Heroes!

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

Evil Sheldon’s story reminds me of the Mythbusters episode ‘Cannonball’ where said projectile bounced out of the quarry they were firing the improvised cannon in and then passed through a couple of houses.

      • J. Frank Parnell

IMO it’s a symptom of some underlying mental illness(es). Not like someone who thinks they’re Jesus Christ or Napoleon or whoever, but they’re suffering from severe depression or anxiety or whatever, then they latch onto the idea that all their problems are because they were “born into the wrong body” and they fixate on changing that as the only way to become happy.

(that’s for the hormone/surgery crowd, not the fashionable they/thems or the locker room pervs).

      • Threedoor

        I have playground envy.
I want some of those shade sails for mine.

      • rhywun

symptom of some underlying mental illness(es)

That is believable. I think they are mostly just really confused gays who are being fed lies by wokesters who want to pat themselves on the back with how much they “care”. It’s a wonder that more aren’t coming away from that experience messed up in the head.

      • DEG

Something similar happened at a gun club I used to belong to. The police officers at fault were kicked out and their contract to use the property for training cancelled. It probably helped that the stupid police were from a different municipality plus the club officers were friends with both the local police chief and local district court judges.

      • Not Adahn

Yes there is a particular LE org we no longer host at ours for ND over berm violations. Don’t know if it’s PD, SD, Staties or who exactly.

    • Nephilium

I offer a compromise. They can serve, but they must live up to all standards of both genders, there’s no special treatment, and no allowed surgeries/hormones while enlisted.

      • rhywun

The activists will holler about “medically necessary health care” so no, that compromise will never happen.

      • juris imprudent

        medically necessary health care

Someone else paying for my surgery!!!

      • Homple

Sensually confused mentally ill people have no business in the military, you know, with all those weapons around. For the sake of simple sanity keep them out. There is enough to put up with in the military without having to deal with obviously crazy people

      • Ted S.

        Sensually confused mentally ill people

They’re not certain if it feels good or bad?

      • rhywun

When a hot war inevitably comes along, not another stupid “nation-building exercise” but a real one, I bet all the woke luxury accommodations will be quietly ignored.

      • Threedoor

        Homple nails it.

Separate the sexes as well. Or dont allow women to serve. It’s not worth the chaos.

    • Threedoor

After my time in the army I would also ban women from serving.

  3. Ted S.

    Of course they want more.

A great example of media bias: Using “more needs to be done” or “it doesn’t go far enough” as the obviously reasonable position to take.

      MOAR GUBMINT!

      Always with these people…

Our civilization is decaying and falling apart, because instead of maintaining infrastructure and offering the basic services at a reasonable cost, government people now run on ultra expensive social justice promises that never ever will come true.

    • Unreconstructed

TLDR version: a tract of land in old New Orleans (7th Ward, *very* close to Downtown, the Super Dome, etc.) was put under contract by a real estate firm owned by a city council member for $15K. I’m not an expert on NOLA real estate, but a corner lot of decent size (it appears similar in size to a smallish hotel across the street) is almost certainly worth more that that, by an order of magnitude I’d guess.

      • Not Adahn

That sort of massive undervaluation happens in NYS all the time, with the municipality/board/whatever using the excuse that the buyer’s plans for the land is of the greatest long-term benefit to “the community.”

      • Unreconstructed

And naturally, the buyer is always someone’s brother-in-law? Even funnier (not like a clown) that in this particular case what they’re selling is the location of a community garden.

  7. rhywun

now it’s gonna result in the entire government being run by communist filth.

I still think that was gonna happen anyway.

But yes, we need to remove ourselves from pointless foreign entanglements and that is not the only one.

    • Ted S.

Unfortunately the communist filth is likely to engage in active help to destroy the other side in that entanglement.

    • AlexinCT

I do not get how people think corporations go bad because of bad people taking over, but government never – EVER – would have the same happen to it… And government attracts people that cant accomplish shit. There are no consequences for doing bad,

      • juris imprudent

        But they have good intentions!!!

      • AlexinCT

Yeah, that’s the issue. Why do government people always have “good intentions” but what we get is disaster at a massive premium?

      • creech

But many do acknowledge that “bad people” take over government. Look at Trumphitler and his minions. They just falsely assume that their guys are angels in comparison.

I would like to say I’m surprised that Sikhs get religious exemptions in a country that bans literal praying by Christians, but I’m not at all surprised.

They’re brown. That is the sophisticated moral calculus that rules these days.

    • R C Dean

Sounds like those knives aren’t just “ceremonial”, either.

I’m sure there’s a ceremony for killing infidels.

Sikhs aren’t Muslim, and they’ve been faithful British subjects for centuries.

      • Not Adahn

If I had thought Sikhs were Muslim, I would have appended “…did he make the guy face Mecca?”

      • slumbrew

        Sikhs are infidels.

My impression that Sikhs are generally good citizens and this really was a bad apple.

      • juris imprudent

Referring to killing “infidels” is kind of a Muslim allusion isn’t it?

      • juris imprudent

this really was a bad apple

How dare we consider the individual and not the whole class! No one is anything but an interchangeable cog of the class system (and oppression)!!

      • Not Adahn

I am of the (perhaps unjustified) opinion that English has appropriated “infidel” to mean “person who refuses to convert to my religion.”

Whether or not Sikhs are (collectively – shudder) “good citizens” doesn’t have nearly the explanatory power of oikophobia in the case of “oi, U got a loicence for that potato peeler m8?”

      • juris imprudent

Well the true explanatory power is found in cosmopolitan nihilism.

      • slumbrew

NA, I’m using “good citizens” in the sense my cousin would – he’s retired NYPD and the world was generally divided into “citizens” and “shitbirds”.

i.e., no concerns if a bunch of Sikhs move into the neighborhood.

      • The Last American Hero

Sorry pal, but if i don’t get to carry a knife for personal safety or just because, then you don’t get one for your religion. I don’t have a criminal record either, I pay my taxes, and cut my lawn.

I attended an all-hands transpretender acceptance briefing at DLI in 2016. After 90 minutes of jibber jabber, a sergeant I didn’t care for surprised me by asking a pertinent question: do soldiers use the restrooms of the gender they identify with or with their “assigned at birth” gender? What about those who are in the process of transistioning?

Well, he didn’t get a straight answer, but good on him for asking anyway. No one else had the balls/ovaries to ask anything. My time in the Army was an intriguing era of various kinds of military derp. Here’s a sample:

“But but but Israel killed their leaders!”

Yes, but those leaders were geezers who couldn’t poor piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel. Their replacements are smarter and more aggressive.

    • Derpetologist

Hezbollah has been around for 44 years. That’s almost as long as the Cold War lasted. Their organization is intact and they have not given up.

Pretty much the only thing holding them back is their desire not to get Lebanon bombed to hell again. They got what they wanted out of that war.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Lebanon_War

      ***
The 2006 Lebanon War was a 34-day armed conflict in Lebanon, fought between Hezbollah and Israel. The war started on 12 July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon. It marked the third Israeli invasion into Lebanon since 1978.

      • Not Adahn

I find it troubling how quickly Hezbollah can flip from being Lebanese to Iranian and back again, usually described by the same people who tell me that Sunnis and Shiites hate each other and don’t cooperate.

Then again, I don’t understand why Eurolandians want to be ruled from Brussels, so what do I know?

      • rhywun

They all hate Israel’s existence so there is that in common.

      • Derpetologist

There have been many groups called Hezbollah over the centuries. The name comes from a verse in the Quran (5:56).

fa inna hezbollah, hum al-ghalibun = truly the party of god are the victorious ones

The verse is on the Hezbollah flag with a hand holding up an AK.

      • AlexinCT

You are not remiss in pointing out that the “We believe in SCIENCE!!” crowd sees the normalization process as a step where they can inject whatever bias they want the output to show into the process.

It’s too obvious if you fake the data or have measurement sites that are drastically (and always in the MOAR direction) impacted by local distortions. And they started there. But it takes a far more discerning mind to comb through what might appear to be random normalization to catch the bias. The fact it was easily picked out happened because these tools are just so lazy and think the audience so stupid, that a blatant normalization trend – always in the increase column – was gonna be missed. Stack 5 or more layers of fake normalizations, and suddenly we are looking at water/desert world and then they can peddle commie shit.

The process will always end in the result these people want, if they are in charge of it.

Gene Arnold McLenithan, 58, was arrested by the FBI last week and charged with kidnapping and attempted abusive sexual contact for allegedly snatching the two victims from their tent at a public hiking trail in Tillamook County on July 4, 2024, according to the US Attorney’s Office of the District of Oregon.

McLenithan, of Salem, kidnapped the women around midnight from their tent, bound them, covered their eyes, and threatened to sexually assault them, prosecutors alleged.”

    • Toxteth O'Grady

🙄 So much for my formatting!

    • PutridMeat

It’s also important to distinguish between Alt Text and Title Tags/Hover tags, the later of which often gets called “alt text”.

Alt text is accessibility and will generally be parsed/read by text readers and show up if an image fails to load.

Title Tags/tooltips are the sort of ‘alternative’ caption that appears when you hover over the element.

I used to do the later, but it became increasingly difficult in the word press editor to figure out how to include it and too much work to directly edit the HTML. Further, I found myself trying to force clever little things on every image rather than using it when it could be genuinely funny.

The Trout Creek Academy yearbook page read, “Everybody hating, we just call them fans though! – Mrs. O’Connell.”

    Onerous burden

The Trump administration is counting on Medicaid work requirements to save the government billions of dollars. But well before the rules formally go into effect Jan. 1, they’re costing already-strapped states millions or tens of millions to implement.

State health departments are having to funnel resources into hiring more staff, paying for overtime, and upgrading their aging technology systems so they can determine which low-income residents are working, volunteering, caregiving, or studying enough hours to keep their Medicaid coverage. They are also building new systems to determine who is sick enough to qualify for an exemption.

Democratic state officials, most of whom oppose the policy, say it’s an unfair burden at a time when many states can least afford it – amid drops in tax revenue and federal funding as a result of other policies in last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The work requirements in that party-line law apply only to states that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and only to people enrolled in that expansion, who typically make more money than those covered by traditional Medicaid.

I find these claims to be unconvincing.

    • rhywun
