Wednesday Afternoon Linsk – F It Edition

by | Jun 24, 2026 | Daily Links, Florida | 85 comments

Today, you get Linsk. Because I maybe 2 hours of sleep last night, my oldest two and the two boys from across the street are shit talking each other about video games – the AC is out at their house until tomorrow and they have a couple of portable units that are just keeping their house from being the shed from Cool Hand Luke – and I can’t be arsed to to fix my typos today.

I’ll be in today, and Tonio tomorrow, because I’m off to north Florida tomorrow. It’s either going to be a lot of fun or a complete shit-show. On the other hand, we’ll have 7 responsible adults, 2 dodgy adults, 8 kids, and a huge stretch of empty beach.

Lets see what we gots for linsk…

Just so’s I’m clear, for a one-time charge of $15B, we can eliminate 11% of the federal workforce? Let’s pass the hat and raise another $60B.

I was just in Real County in April… how cool would it be to check your door/game cameras and see a fucking giraffe in Texas?? Hopefully, she doesn’t get caught by poachers, or its “say goodnight, Gracie!”

Well, shoot. I was planning to go to one of those LA hospices where people live for years. Now it turns out they’re a scam. Who woulda thunk it?? Also, why did it take the Feds 10+ years to figure out that people in these hospices were exceeding the natural life expectancy of healthy people? [Link fixed post-publication. -Editor]

Pinellas County, FL government surrenders Clearwater to the Hubbardites. I promise, if anyone buys the land it will be the Scientologists. Personally, I’m happy to stay out of their weird Potemkin downtown and either take the beach way or the inland way to Dunedin.

When you’re this tired, you just gotta crank Angus and Malcolm and try to get through.

About The Author

Brett L

Brett L

Brett set out to find America, the real America, the America of strip malls and serial killers, of butthole waxing and kelp smoothies, of cocaine and maggots. He sought it in the most American part of America—Florida: swamp gas and fever dreams, where love arrives on a rickety boat and leaves when it doesn't have the money for its fourth abortion. Oh, where has Brett gone? He’s drinking at the neck of America’s wang, chewing its foreskin and working its shaft. Brett is becoming legend. Brett can never die. Brett can never die. Brett is America, facedown in his own patriotic puke: the red his blood, the white his stomach lining, and the cold, cold blue his gas station slushie, spiked with coconut rum and tetracycline.

*wonders what giraffe meat tastes like*

    • Not Adahn

Their bones make nice knife handles.

    • Bobarian LMD

Per the chat-bot: Giraffe meat is edible and described as an intensely flavored, lean red meat that tastes similar to venison or horse meat but with a natural sweetness. While relatively common in certain African countries like South Africa and Namibia, it is rare and often restricted in the United States.

Sounds like moose, which I found delicious.

  2. Not Adahn

How does a giraffe stay unnoticed?

  3. The Late P Brooks

How many weasels tall is that giraffe? You know, so I’ll know if it’s the right one.

      • Plinker762

        African or European weasels?

  4. The Late P Brooks

Medicare will pay for me to live in a luxury resort if I promise to die someday?

  5. DEG

By agency, the largest percentage reductions were at USAID, 95 percent; Education, 45.6; SBA, 37; GSA, 36.8; OPM, 33.9; NSF, 32.5; and HUD, 30.5. On the lower end, DHS was down just 0.9 percent; VA, 7.3; Transportation, 7.6; and Justice, 8.8.

Those are rookie numbers. Gotta pump them up.

    Something something kindness of strangers

“These victories prove that democratic socialists are building a winning coalition,” NYC-DSA co-chair Grace Mausser said in a statement.

“While the Democratic establishment and MAGA fascists ignore the needs of working people, democratic socialists are speaking to the ever-growing base of voters demanding we end war, abolish ICE, tax the rich, and win universal healthcare.”

There are signs of growing interest outside of New York. Just last week, Democratic primary voters in Washington, D.C., elected Janeese Lewis George, a democratic socialist, to be their next mayor, and earlier this month Los Angeles DSA candidate Nithya Raman advanced to the general election for mayor there.

Plus, after Mamdani’s upset primary win last year, young voters around the country told NPR that they considered him a national leader. Since that victory, the DSA has reported a surge in membership.

It’s just so simple. Why hasn’t anybody tried this before.

    • Rat on a train

      Buying votes works?

      • The Other Kevin

It’s a great plan, just promise them the world, then you can blame those selfish people who move away when none of it works.

      • rhywun

I dunno but seething resentment and hatred sure works wonders.

    • rhywun

I wholeheartedly approve the Dems going full-on communist.

Be honest about it, and give the voters exactly what you’re promising. Let’s get this over with sooner rather than later.

      • kinnath

        I understand the sentiment.

But you are cheering on bloodshed and a vast amount of suffering for those that deserve it and those that don’t.

      • rhywun

I almost think we’re beyond any ability to prevent it.

      • Nephilium

I thought I read that the turnout in the NY primary was low this cycle. But reading the views of some of the ones who were selected… Cheebus, there’s no way anyone should have voted for them.

      • kinnath

I almost think we’re beyond any ability to prevent it.

Agreed. But I refuse to wish it to come.

    • Bobarian LMD

About time to build a wall around that sucker.

Then fill it in with concrete.

      • Threedoor

Too much CO2 generated doing that.

  7. The Late P Brooks

    I got a 404 page.

Too late. The operation was not a success.

  8. The Late P Brooks

But even with those high-profile wins, it remains unclear how this blueprint can translate elsewhere in the country, given DSA-backed candidates have yet to pull off a victory outside of a major city. And the embrace of democratic socialism gives Republicans something to campaign against. The National Republican Congressional Committee was quick to release a statement saying the Democratic Party “officially belongs to the socialists.”

    Fascists pounce!

    • The Other Kevin

The Dems might be destroying their own party, but you can still count on the R’s to fuck up even something this simple.

    • Tonio

First the bouncing boobies, now this. All we need is OBE to post some meat-smoking pics and we’ll have the trifecta.

    • R.J.

Are we adding DEG to the GoFundMe list along with Mojeaux?

      • DEG

        Hmm…..

    • EvilSheldon

An obsolete reproduction bolt gun, for more than my Atlas? Nah, thanks anyway. I already have better cheaper stuff for quietly eliminating sentries.

  9. The Late P Brooks

    You have very good taste.

    Much too gaudy.

    • Mojeaux

Normally, I would agree with you, but for whatever reason, that one just hit all my right buttons.

      • Tonio

Those are purty. I have a friend who collects watches, though nowhere near at that price point, so appreciate the beauty of them.

      • The Other Kevin

The face is amazing. I’m not a big fan of all the diamonds, but I didn’t really notice them at first.

    • rhywun

I like the colors but the diamonds are gross.

      • Tonio

        Oh, damn, that’s purty.

You ever read is Wooden Boat Magazine? Almost went down that rabbit-hole a couple of times.

      • The Other Kevin

Mrs. TOK has a friend from high school who sometimes comes to our house for brunch during the holidays. He lives in Michigan, and builds/maintains those boats for a living. He went to a special school for it. When he shows me pix of what he’s working on, I feel like a fool because I can’t stop saying “wow”.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I used to subscribe. I’ve had a couple of wooden sail boats.

      • Fourscore

Helluva bass boat, Nick, a couple pedestal seats and some rod holders and we’d be ready to go. Lake by the house has an easy boat landing and probably wouldn’t scuff the mahogany.

In other Florida news, yesterday was the 88th birthday of Marineland, formerly the state’s most popular tourist attraction.

It’s long been overtaken by the Mouse and SeaWorld, but it still has a place in my heart. I visited as a young lad, and my first job after grad school was there.

Weird gig — before the first customers came in, I’d be scrubbing algae off the interior of the enclosures. Then when the gates opened, I would don an old-timey dive suit (complete with copper & brass helmet) and wow the tourists by… feeding the fish and cetaceans.

Five shows a day, six days a week. We were closed on Tuesdays for training porpoises.

    • Tonio

      Old-timey diving suit cool af.

Shpip, that experience would make a great article. Please write it up for me.

      • rhywun

Looks like Marineland Niagara that I saw many ads for in my youth made it all the way to 2024. Nice run.

    • The Other Kevin

She couldn’t fit the stereotype more if she tried.

    • rhywun

She was later snapped on the subway still lugging the basket.

I mean, really – how dumb can you be?

    • EvilSheldon

Note – they ain’t using a surplus Lee-Enfield for this.

Local sports radio is still going on about the Giants players putting a Bible verse on their hats. “We’re not looking for special treatment.” Yes you are. You are forcing people to wear the hat. Stop being such whiny bitches and enjoy the game. Of course it would help if the Giants didn’t suck this year.
