Trump Signs Stopgap Bill to Fund Government Through Midterms
After midterms I am sure the deficit problem will be solved.
Well, they’ll be just as solved as before the midterms. Does that count?
Aren’t you the optimist.
I’m betting the deficit continues to grow after the midterms.
I’m betting the deficit continues to grow after the midterms.
That’s like betting on the Sun rising in the East.
Which is the current state of the deficit, constantly growing at an ever increasing rate, so the same as now. 🙂

Uber slashing over 3K jobs as rise of robotaxis dents ride-hailing business
One the one hand robotaxis have their benefits. On the other, old school cash only no gps taxi drivers had their benefits…
On the gripping hand….
Does Waymo know where the good hookers are?
You people have a dirty mind.
Not dirty enough.
I would imagine that licensed taxis are required to by GPS trackable these days.
“old school cash only no gps taxi drivers”
This may come back as an opposite vector to the current one. The reason Uber works for most people isn’t the ride but the fact that they let you know how long your wait is for a ride. Uncertainty is a bigger issue for consumers.
The robot taxis in Grand Rapids, Minnesoda are so bad they need a human in the driver’s seat to stop it from doing stupid things.
is Grand Rapids, Minnesoda anything like Grand Falls New Brunswick? How grand are in fact the rapids?
They are only grand. The DMV has Great Falls.
At one time they were enough of an impediment that they said fuck it and built a saw mill just above the rapids. It was easier to remove the logs before the rapids, saw them, and ship them by rail than to get the logs through the rapids.
The Blandin company is still the largest employer in town, though now the mostly make paper. The Blandin company is also the largest land-owner in northern Minnesoda.

So, we need more people trained in a Chinese Firing Drill?
Gloria Steinem, feminist writer and activist, dead at 92
Never read anything I have to say. A gap in my education.
She only thought men were second class citizens and should be put in camps, not put to death.
She spoke at my college graduation. I expected a fiery, feminist diatribe. To my surprise, she was measured and non-political.

Hey, that is 2 whole days worth of Eagle’s Pass crossings under Biden.
That should be how many were executed and hanged on the wall.
“”Gloria loved the tradition of lighting signal fires on hills to light the way to the other side of the mountain. Lighting your own candle for Gloria makes you part of this global and celestial community circle,” it added.”
She died doing what she loved, generating feminist flapdoodle.

We should honor her legacy by putting up a statue of her in her Playboy Bunny uniform.
I usually get my school tax bill on 9/1. It was three days early this year. But they aren’t accepting payments for it until tomorrow I guess. It there no limit to what they’ll do to make my life slightly more irritated?
No, none. There is no peak to bureaucratic petty annoyances.
I mean seriously. Who else would send you a bill and they “we won’t accept your payment, it’s got to sit in your inbox for a week. Oh and even though we’re refusing your attempt to pay, we’ll take you house if you don’t pay us at a time and manner of our choosing.”
Your bureaucracy probably has separate people sending the bill and receiving payment operating under their own rules.
The district here requires you to enter the bill # on the web form, so you can’t just dispose of it before getting their nastily worded correspondence.
They don’t deserve my money
I forgot to check this year, but does the business side of the Social Security web site still have “hours” of availability? They used to keep hours like a storefront, a web site, it baffled the mind until you thought about who was running it.
It’s actually helpful, because it lets you know that if you leave a request for help, ain’t nobody looking at this shit until tomorrow at the very earliest.
Your school district sends a separate bill than the property tax bill?
My county gatheres up all the taxing districts and sends a combined bill.
If each taxing district sent individual bills I bet people would be more pissed off about them.
Excellent example of “how to mislead with a headline”, there.
“Dems Defeat Court-Packing Amendment” makes it sound like a dastardly Republican plot to pack the Court was thwarted by the Democrats.
What the Democrats actually defeated was an amendment to prevent court-packing by fixing the size of the Court at 9 Justices.
I was thinking the same thing
I thought that sounded odd.
I suspect someone from RedState thought it was clever or they ripped the headline from a wire-service.

Germany isn’t enjoying an economic boom. Decommissioning all their nuclear plants, then cutting off the gas supply from Russia was not a good plan.
VW plans to phase out 4 German factories.

I don’t support protectionism but the cheap Chinese cars are going to wreck them.
Cheap cars made with cheap nuclear power and Russian oil.
No amount of fancy German engineering can overcome that disadvantage.
I think that’s cheap coal-powered electricity and (formerly) discounted Iranian and Venezuelan oil. Not sure how much Russian oil the ChiComs are actually getting – that’s a good question. I recall reading that the infrastructure to deliver Russian oil to China was not great, but that’s been awhile.
Chinese cars suck ass.

“Patrick did it. Because, you know, I also heard that women typically don’t strangle.”
When females kill their offspring, she claimed, they usually poison or drown them.

Gloria Steinem was unavailable for comment.
I hope he sues her and the therapist into penury.
The therapist would be a difficult legal challenge to sue. We don’t have the exact words, which were said in private, and did not extend to a cause of action like tortuous interference. Privately defaming someone to someone not associated with the target of the defanation doesn’t result in the kind of damages you can sue over.
The therapy industry has a lot to answer for.
So the automated taxis are putting taxi drivers out of business. Where will I get my financial advice?
I’ll need a therapist to keep me informed or maybe AI.
I’ll check with Lisa, she sounds like someone I can trust.
Defamation can occur in one-on-one “private” conversations involving people not associated with the target, and doesn’t require another tort like tortious interference. Of course, nobody knows about those conversations until one of the participants runs their yapper, but you can definitely rope in the person who made the defamatory statement in the private conversation.
Damages are a different question, but defamation per se (which includes saying somebody committed a crime) opens the door to punitive damages, so actual damages need not be shown.

“A son is a son until he takes a wife, but a daughter is a daughter all of her life.” Irish proverb
So daughters, rather than sons, hound their father more often for money. I have one of each. My experience is that both are equally adept.
My kids are smart enough to go to mom for the $.
More than one son is trouble because of contested claims of succession. Daughters can be married off to keep the peace and forge alliances.
Sorry, you’ve been restricted to partition succession. You better conquer an additional realm for each child.

Doing harassment training right now. Whoo-boy. Fun.
People wonder why I am practically a recluse at work most of the time.
Is it making you a better harasser?
I’ve been an engineer for 40 years now. You’d think I’d know how to harass people by now. But no, we all need a refresher course every now and then.
How many engineers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
1. It only takes one engineer to screw up anything.
I learned in my harassment training the proper way to slap a female intern on the ass. You don’t just go in for the slap first you get behind her, rub her shoulders a bit, ask how she is adjusting to the company etc. Then if it is your sirs interaction of the day you leave just giving her a slight tap on the but. You save the real stuff for later in the day.
Also you should not discriminate between interns. Not only slap the hot ones. Others will feel left out and exclusion is a form of bullying.
[ MS posts volleyball gif ]
I will credit this training program for playing against the grain a bit. Like the Asian woman is creating the hostile work environment for a new mom, or a woman is sexually harassing a guy.
Yeah, I even had one where they gay guy was always saying crazy inappropriate stuff because he thought his gayness gave him a pass. In the post-training evaluation, I wrote that while it was a nice attempt to remind people that the rules apply to everyone, that gay guy would totally get a pass. No way HR is risking a discrimination lawsuit.
LAH:
Can confirm.
Several jobs back, there were complaints about an employee. He was watching male on male porn at his desk, albeit during breaks. There was no office, and it was a pod layout, with four desks with the monitors all facing inward. The complaints were from females in the same pod.
HR defended him and said that it was acceptable because it was on breaks, “and he may not have access at home.” He was also a twofer, black AND gay.
Neph, several years and jobs ago, my wife had to deal with that, with the added bonus of the person calling a resident tech to “repair” his system while it was playing hardcore gay porn. Tech didn’t want to be “that guy” who complained about a gay man, so they whole thing was buried.
As an unashamed pervert…watching, reading, or otherwise consuming porn in the workplace is never acceptable, and should result in the guilty party being escorted out of the building with their belongings in a cardboard box.

Interviewee claims the real issue is that some children don’t want to go to school because they’re neurodivrgent, and the remedy is more resources for such grifting families.
Fuck the so-called neurodivrgent. – I mean there may be issues of consent there.
I identify as a migrant.
Yeah, I’m about done with the neurodivergent grift, too. You can either function in society or you’re dysfunctional. If you’re dysfunctional, try not to be a burden. If you’re a burden, fuck you.
I’ve been seeing a lot of the autistic and otherwise ‘neurodivergent’ push back on the label as meaningless.
Yeah… the people with a strong desire for precision will not like a less precise term for them.
Let’s go back to having minimal standards of public behavior. We don’t need them to be elaborate, it is possible to have overly restrictive etiquette, but not harming, harassing, frightening, or disgusting random strangers in public should be a bare minimum expected. And no, I do not mean to give the snowflakes a veto on behavior. There’s a clear difference between thugs intimidating women and old folks on the subway and some idiot triggered by a hat or t-shirt.
Just like, “…the poison is in the dose.” Or, “The problem with drugs is that most of the people that use the drugs, use it as a license to be an asshole.”
Neurodivergence is fine – I had ADHD before ADHD was cool, and although I’ve never been tested, I’m sure that I got the ’tism. Failing to be a functional adult is not fine.
I’m not sure, Sheldon. “Neurodivergent”, if it ever had a real meaning, has long since been hijacked by the grifters.
It’s like redefining “autism” from something severe to “on the spectrum”.
A small latitude of “neurodivergency” can be good — because if everyone thinks the same way, you won’t ever do different things that might help your business stand out. But catering to them is false empathy.
“…because if everyone thinks the same way…” One of my favorite t-shirts seen in the wild “My mom says I’m unique, just like everybody else.”

How is garlic essential oil toxic if you can eat garlic?
Likely not processed in a way that is certain to not contain botulism toxin, or with a solvent that’s not food safe.
What he said…
Garlic-infused oil isn’t the same as garlic essential oil
I eat several heads a garlic a month and never got botulism?
Its not garlic itself that will give you botulism…improper infusion, canning, storage in liquids not balanced to hold botulism at bay will
Common Tater:
Botulism is anaerobic, putting raw garlic into oil and letting it steep at room temperature is a decent way to get sick or dead.
Not approved is clearly identical to actually dangerous! Why do you want people doing things without obtaining permission?
The article talks of ‘allergic reactions’, which probably means that someone with an allium allergy didn’t read the label…
How is garlic essential oil toxic
No, no, no. Not toxic. Much worse. NOT APPROVED
Or I suppose it could be the solvent used in extraction or suspension of the oil, but snark is more run.
Am I the only person who is sick of garlic?
No?

@NA on the practiscore page, there is the requirement of “To compete with center fire handguns, competitors must have completed a Practical Pistol Safety Class or documentation of having participated in a Level II or higher IDPA, USPSA, or ICORE match.” I don’t have any documentation showing any of that.
Requiring participation in a Level II USPSA match, is quite an ask for a club match.
It’s pretty common here (’cause BODs) to require “proof” that someone isn’t going to ND while holstering. Someone decided that a level II could be substituted in lieu of their clubs “safety class” and monkey see monkey do.
There are no true beginner pistol games here anymore, Although KFGC’s “class” is pretty brief and offered immediately before all of their matches.
Where might I find more info on that so I might have something provable to satisfy requirements (even if it’s only good for one club, I suppose)
I think you just sign up for a match (like the one on 9/12) and then select the “no” dropdown on if you’ve been holster certified.
Well, break out the 10/22 then.

But, is anyone ever happy about winning a war they don’t care about?
I am not seeing any names attached to these accounts.
So, disregard.
Read an interesting argument that the Iran thing has basically devolved into a siege. Sieges are won by the side that can outlast the other. So, we’ll see.
I continue to be baffled by why (1) we didn’t blockade Iranian traffic through the Strait immediately, (2) we didn’t do the economic side of things until just now, and (3) why we have been so delicate with bridges and power plants and shit. Do we want to win the fucking war or not? If not, go home.
Because Europeans and Team Blue will say bad things about the US.
The Euros complain when we don’t do anything, and when we do.
I say, fuck the Euros. Have fun with your Conquista, you globalist assholes.
Maybe because military leaders always start with doing the minimum they think they can win with. Trump expected capitulation after first week of strikes? Lincoln thought 75,000 green militia men would be enough to drag the seceding states back into the Union.
“strain on troops” – apparently, the military is just another jobs program.
Word. Going back to the ancient history of Desert Shield/Storm, the first troops arrived in Saudi in August 1990 and didn’t get home until April/May 1991.
Consulting the parchment scrolls. A standard tour in Vietnam was one year. Korea was 1-2 years depending on what you did and where.
Consulting the stone tablets. When you left the US you didn’t come back (unless badly wounded) until the job was done. So if you left for the Pacific in summer 1942, or North Africa October 1942. Buh Bye.
It was a jobs program when I was it.

Turn them into cat food?
Haiti already is great.
I recall a celebrity campaign extolling how great Haiti is.
I see we’ve moved on to ‘ethnic cleansing’ as the terme du jour…
It’s very tiresome.
The returning Haitians may clean up Haiti?
It would certainly be nice if they did, but I’m not going to expend any energy worrying about it.
Trump should grant himself Temporary Presidential Status that never expires and see what Salon has to say then.
You can tell they are deeply disappointed that he isn’t actually putting them in chains.
Here’s the dealio – if you want to give Haitians an open door to move to the US because their country is an irredeemable shithole, get Congress to pass a law.
If ethnic cleansing is what it takes to have a high-functioning, high-trust society, then I’m all for it.
If Haitians are allowed to live and work in the US because of an earthquake that happened 16 years ago, and they shouldn’t be returned to Haiti because of a completely different reason, then every single Haitian is entitled to live in the US forever.

““I want you to do your best to pronounce these words,” one woman asks her boyfriend in a clip viewed more than 8.8m times. He gamely nails his first attempt, reading off the herb “thyme”. But he’s less successful with “epitome”, “challah” and “fuchsia”. (“Foo-chia?” he guesses). “Conscientious” and “faux pas” also prove tricky. He ends up with a score of five out of 17, or 29% – very much a failing grade.
The couple laughed through the exercise, but viewers were not as charmed by an adult man struggling through what they considered basic vocabulary. “The fact that his vote matters just as much as mine is really pissing me off,” one woman wrote in the comments section. “I’m gonna be honest girl, this is worth breaking up with him over,” read another comment.
Two of the words the man correctly identified were “colonel” and “regime”, which, to one user, was evidence of a red flag: “he’s obviously a Republican”. (Maybe he just has an interest in military history, a time-honored hobby of boyfriends everywhere.) Regardless of political affiliation, it seemed fair game to dunk on Mr Foo-chia. One final quip from a viewer: “He’d be so upset if he could read these comments….
The test made its way around TikTok, with more young couples joining in, to similarly bleak results. Even those men who did well got caught up in the pop-misandry circus. We do have in our mating market an oversupply of educated women
Grifting studies majors don’t count.
Educated is fine. What we have is indoctrinated women. And they are indoctrinated into a cult that denies the concept of objective reality in favor of a hierarchy of status based on negative acheivement. The worse you are the higher you rank.
I like British blogger David Thompson’s term for it, “severely educated”.
Everyone knows Challah was the king of Wakanda.
I’m sure there’s a video out there somewhere in which women fail a bunch of easy math problems or trivia questions – but we won’t talk about that.
Does anyone really believe that these Tikkity Tok videos of men looking like idiots are real?
The idea that anyone who comments on Tikkity Tok is concerned about other people not measuring up their standards is laughable.
Oh, I believe at least some of them are real. I mean, ignorance is pretty wide spread, and the only reason I know fuchsia as a color is from printing and colors on computers.
If you are commenting on Tiktok, your opinion is worthless.
It’s also a way to go after Icky Class men.
Look at the “I’d rather run into a bear in the woods than a man” meme being taken seriously, while the “How often do you think about Rome” meme was a sign that men are insecure and looking for a toxically masculine society.
I’m sure all of these women would be able to perfectly pronounce any words I pick. I’ll start with sidhe.
Look. Mr Ilium, whoever transliterated gaelic into the latin alphabet was clearly insane.
Alcohol may have been involved.
Related-ish: We homeschooled all the kids, and several of the younger engineers at work grew up that way too. There’s a phenomenon that I (and others) have noticed of homeschooled kids who are extremely well-read but have never actually heard the pronunciation of certain words. They know the meaning and could use them in context, but (usually as a side-effect of less mass-media exposure) pronounce them wrong the first time and get funny looks from the normies.
Otiose for the win.
“Yacht” from XY1 was how I realized it.
Don’t feel bad. Kids that go to elite prep schools also have problems pronouncing words correctly.
My mom was a terrible speller and pronounced all sorts of things wrong.
“How do you spell ‘spear’?”
“S-P-E-A-R.”
“Not that kind of spear!”

“Spear!” she exclaims, pointing to the geodesic sphere.
I wasn’t homeschooled, but read a shit ton growing up, and thus cannot pronounce words correctly half the time. My wife, who also read a ton, looked up the pronunciation of every word she came across, and thus pronounces everything right.

Damn French words.
They should be spelled phonetically.
So what you’re saying is Haitians are subhuman savages incapable of self-governance who must be kept under close supervision in a condition of servitude.
Would not have called this.
The current Range Rover uses JLR’s MLA architecture, which was designed over a decade ago to be powertrain agnostic. The BEV actually only weighs 165 lbs (75 kg) more than the V8; getting rid of the front, center, and rear differentials plus all their driveshafts saves almost as much weight as the battery and drive units add back.
It’s significantly more expensive, however. But it you are wealthy and urban – the actual noise tradeoff and low end torque make it the better mall cruiser if you don’t care about price.
Here’s our first look—and drive—of the 2027 Range Rover Electric

Someone pointed out that Jags and Land Rovers, being in the same market space as BMW and Mercedes, was essentially a thing for coastal elites at this point, and they needed to move fully into that sphere. In other words, the buyers for them were uninterested in the racing heritage, and wanted city vehicles.
I want this day over, and this house off my hands. Buyers are supposed to sign today (we signed last night) and they have been a serious pain in the ass. All sorts of demands that were just annoying, but as this is a tight market, so we allowed some of this BS. And it has always added to the sale being more difficult than it should be.
Imagine trying to broker a deal on the Strait of Hormuz.
Still the rental? Good luck, it will be over eventually.
“I was aware of that when I asked volunteers to hand out free gun locks in some of Virginia’s most conservative counties. I also knew the stakes: firearms are the leading cause of death among American children and teenagers, killing 2,581 children under 18 in 2023 alone.
But decades of polarization have made it near impossible to agree on even the simplest measures. Liberals caricature gun owners as uneducated rednecks or reckless young men stockpiling AR-15s; gun owners see liberals as bleeding hearts determined to confiscate their weapons. But keeping guns away from children seemed like the one place where we might meet.”
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2026/sep/03/gun-safety-rural-america
That’s retarded.
Firearms are the leading cause of death? I call bullshit. Household accidents and even cancer are higher.
It’s always a qualified measure and it generally includes people of 18 sometimes 20s so that it can wrap in gang bangers.
It was only 2,581 firearm deaths in people under 18 in 2023. So it is a reporting fallacy of the author’s own making. Easy look up:
“ In 2023, there were approximately 8,870 preventable injury-related deaths among individuals under age 18 in the home and community, derived from the statistic that those aged 0 to 18 comprise a small percentage of the 125,700 total home deaths,”
It’s bullshit, and it has little to do with “unsecured guns.” The gun was secured in the hands of other gang banger who shot him.
I donno. Gang bangers are not known for their secure handling.
They really don’t see that “keeping guns away from children” as being 100% consistent with “confiscating guns”.
RJ, they get there by adding up accidental shootings, suicides, and homicides. Safety locks only address accidental shootings (and possibly prevent some suicides).
Also “children” is usually loosely defined as I noted above!
Even with that, the statement that it is the #1 cause of death for people under 18 is easily disproven.
They will argue about the definition of child.
Child. 0-15
Minor. 16-18
When my mom died 10 years later, I inherited her old BB gun and Remington 22; my husband also inherited one of each. He says the two childhood BB guns don’t really count, but I think they do.
In NJ the BB guns entitle you to the same possession felonies possible with an AR or 9mm of your choice
You cannot be serious!
Purely prosecutorial discretion.
No different for me to purchase a single shot, single pump, BB pistol here an the CZ Shadow 2 Carry I just ordered. Other than an order of magnitude price difference.
But that $20 pistol will still cost me $46 in fees.
I fucking hate people like this. It’s not quite gaslighting, but the process of manipulation isn’t far off.
Look lady, nobody really gives a fuck about the handful of lame sporting guns you inherited, and they certainly don’t give your stupid opinions on gun policy any weight.
Come back when you own an AR-15 (bonus points for an SBR, silencer, and/or FRT) that you’ve shot a case of ammo through in the last year, and a Glock that you carry concealed every day. Then your opinion might be something other than utterly worthless.
This made ma laugh:
Also, if I keep my pistol loaded, what use is a gun lock?
They thread through the action correct?
Also also, if your kids are too young to understand gun safety, maybe one would be a good idea, but since my kids were old enough to talk, they knew what the gun was.
“Thank you, I already have a large and heavy safe.”
BBs and .22s were widely available when I was a kid. If not in our house, then in a neighbors unlocked garage. And nothing else happened.
I decided to take a gamble and watch Spider Noir. Incredibly enough, it doesn’t suck. Maybe somebody kicked some sense into the creative department at Prime.
I enjoyed it, even with the lazy ADR work from Cage when Spidey was in the mask and active.
on my list of things to watch.
but I have held off until I knew it was worth the effort.
My wife and I both enjoyed it.
We thought it was better in black and white.
That’s interesting. It didn’t like the B&W, it didn’t look like real B&W films from the 1930s/40s to me.
And the colors though obviously artificial were gorgeous.
He says the two childhood BB guns don’t really count, but I think they do.
You’ll shoot your eye out!
Overtourism and reports — some true, others misconceived — of foreign residents flouting local rules have recently fueled the rise of “Japan-first” politics and reshaped the trajectory of what was becoming a more open, diverse and welcoming society.
Nice zero sourcing CNN!

I wish the US was a tight as Japan was with immigration before they got fed up. Now they make the US seem positively lenient.
We are too lenient.
The US has in fact been positively lenient for decades on immigration. And the recent “crackdown” has moved the needle all the way to “somewhat lenient”.
When a sizable portion of your GDP is from tourism you don’t get to bitch about tourists.
We thought it was better in black and white.
That would do a dep disservice to the black reporter’s wardrobe.
““If women are supposed to be less rational and more emotional at the beginning of our menstrual cycle when the female hormone is at its lowest level, then why isn’t it logical to say that, in those few days, women behave the most like the way men behave all month long?””

SCIENCE!!
Do 3/4 of the time your brain is soaked in a particular chemical mix. That mix goes wonky and you become less rational. then it returns to the original mix and you stabilize.
But you let your sexism take over from reason to get a dig in at people who do not have hormonal swings as a matter of course.

Yesterday, a Romanian shepherd stumbled upon a Russian drone carrying an explosive payload that crashed into a field in Romania. This being the first drone he ever saw, the man did the sensible thing and started pulling random wires out of it until he defused it himself.

It’s a dud. And the bomb didn’t work either.
Are we sure it wasn’t Ukrainian?
Some Slav or Another.
To be honest, I’m not convinced that the Russians and Ukrainians are separate peoples.

I suspect if you graphed the numbers for “leading causes of death” by age you’d get a rather interestingly shaped curve.
But if you think bullet-riddled toddlers (as opposed to bobbing face down in a swimming pool) is a compelling image you’d probably skip that part.
No splitters!
House Democrats huddled Wednesday morning to weigh potential changes to internal party rules after a pair of centrist lawmakers crossed the aisle a day earlier to help Republican leaders advance a series of GOP messaging bills that were on track to fail.
The defections by Democratic Reps. Jared Golden (Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.) caught the Democrats off guard and infuriated both party leaders and many members of the caucus.
The episode prompted a special meeting of the lower chamber’s Democratic Committee on Caucus Rules, which has been charged by leadership with examining possible changes to the party’s internal guidelines in an effort to ensure that Democrats stick together on future rules votes.
Vote your conscience? Don’t be stupid. This is the United States Congress.
m>“Procedurally, this is about making sure that we maintain unity, whether we’re in the minority, or when we’re in the majority,” said Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), a member of the Committee on Caucus Rules. “Members — all members — have a right to vote their district. And the underlying bill is the opportunity to do that.”
Jeffries echoed that message.
“It’s long understood what the dynamics are related to procedural votes connected to a rule,” Jeffries said.
If the party bigwigs want the bill to actually come to a vote on the floor, then you may be permitted to vote however you wish. Maybe.
The uproar stems from Tuesday’s vote on a GOP rule governing a series of bills that Republicans sought to pass this week as an eleventh-hour flourish lending them momentum and talking points heading into November’s midterm elections. The legislation included proposals to condemn socialism, roll back environmental protections and bar U.S. universities from participating in boycotts of Israel — all hot-button issues Republicans see as beneficial on the campaign trail.
The rule was poised to fail, because a handful of conservative Republicans voted against it to protest the decision by GOP leaders to fast-track a massive government funding bill earlier in the day. But Golden and Gluesenkamp Perez voted in favor of the rule to put it over the top, rescuing GOP leaders and salvaging much of the Republicans’ remaining preelection agenda.
Why can’t Republicans take governing seriously, instead of being obsessed with empty grandstanding?
Gloria Steinem as cia asset. I missed that on the gloss overview of the feminist movement.
Who isn’t a CIA asset?
