Friday Morning Links

The Indians scalped the White Sox and the series will go to the rubber match tomorrow night. The Cowboys stink so bad that the Buccaneers beat them. But not bad enough for the Texans to have done so. The NBA started their preseason and I wouldn’t have even known aside from the outpouring of LeBron stories. This is awesome. MLB is considering shortening the regular season. F1 is in Singapore this weekend. And last but not least, soccer returns to clubs this weekend. Now I’m moving on.

My God, these people are tiresome. They just never stop with this shit. It’s almost as if they have too much money to do whatever performative shit they want.

My spidey sense is tingling. I hate to sound like I disbelieve all women, but this sounds like baloney. Or is it bologna? You decide.

Blah. Blah. Blah. They don’t even know what happened and they’re gonna riot. One might think they’re just looking for any reason to break shit.

Well this is bad. Fortunately there’s a simple preventive measure: avoid eating ass of strangers.

What’s more powerful, grief or grift? I guess it depends on your name.

You gotta be shitting me. These motherfuckers have no shame whatsoever.

Somebody explain to me why this is the federal government’s responsibility. Oh, there’s an election coming up, so that’s why it matters today.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! This fucking guy is too funny to leave the arena. I hope he ignores them.

More evidence that the UK has gone insane. As if you needed any more than you see daily.

This might be a bit extreme. I have no interest in watching this dog being put down, but I’m sure it will be pretty popular. I do like the firing squad idea though. And I hope a bunch of them shoot him in the dick.

I just love this guy’s videos. And yes, I realize they’re absurd. And that perfectly fits his songs. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this Friday and then long holiday weekend, dear friends.

        Ass breaker, Drotto.

        Ass breaker.

The MLB is also planning to update the playoffs. Division series to 7 games. First two rounds to be pick your opponent.

    • sloopyinca

Just silly. Go back to two divisions per league and have two wild cards per league. Problem solved.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

If they shorten the season my wife is going to lose her shit.

And I will not be there to eat it up!

Nah. Go back to the AL and NL winners go straight to the World Series.

Bennett admits calling the police and portrays himself as the victim of this child: “The police have not arrested for no reason… There were a number of posts that targeted me… It was unpleasant and I was targeted by a child I had no way of dealing with.”

The kid is right. He’s a rent boy. What a thin skinned sack of useless garbage.

    • sloopyinca

“A child I had no way of dealing with.”

Is ignoring people not an option? That’s one way of dealing with someone who has no impact on your career. It’s generally pretty effective too.

      • Ownbestenemy

The ‘I had no choice’ nonsense lands him even more so as a rent boy.

  7. UnCivilServant

I have come to the conclusion that we must discard the metric dollar. 100 cents to the dollar is a mathematically suboptimal number of divisions. 240 can be divided more ways and makes for a more mathematically rational currency. Of course, we have to revalue the Imperial Dollar to make those 240 subdivisions have value. Then phase out the metric dollars as not legal tender.

    • R.J.

      Hmm….
I like this. Can this new dollar be backed up with precious metals instead of absolutely nothing?

      • UnCivilServant

We can back it with plutonium and store it in power plants. We’ll have to keep making more to replenish the supply as the reserves are depleted in fission reactions, but it’ll provide beneficial byproducts.

We’ll get back to ridiculing West Virginia after the election.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Are you saying it is a toothless complaint?

    • rhywun

What a tedious weeper that article is.

Somebody explain to me why this is the federal government’s responsibility.

To be fair, federal (and state, and local) policy is largely responsible for hooking the “hungry” on their beneficence.

  10. R C Dean

MLB is considering shortening the regular season.

Good. All the pro sports seasons have gotten bloated.

    • Evan from Evansville

No. The 162-game season is needed. Really, really good teams win maybe 60% of their games. The number of games is necessary to give a big enough sample to differentiate. And to take money from welcome and eager fans. In the AL West, 162 games and they still didn’t even win half of their games. (That’s partly another story, but it applies here.)

      • sloopyinca

81-81 is winning half their games.

      • UnCivilServant

        162?

I knew they played too many games, but that’s absurd.

        Cut it by 130 games.

      • R C Dean

It used to be 154 games, with no playoffs, starting in mid-April and ending at the end of September. That seems like plenty.

  11. DEG

She recalled one of the men saying “Democratic b****,” the police report said.

It was more honest when they said “THIS IS MAGA COUNTRY”

    • WTF

That right there tells me it never happened.

    • Rat on a train

If he had said “Covfefe, bitch.” it would be more believable.

  12. R C Dean

Bernadette Greene-Placentia, a Democrat running for Congress in a suburban Phoenix district, said Wednesday that she was raped in August while repairing a campaign sign at night, eventually filing a police report

Yes, she waited until October to make an issue of it, and didn’t report it to the police for two weeks. As one does when one is assaulted.

Gotta say, though, one of her attackers calling her a “Democratic bitch” comment is a little too “This is MAGA country”.

    And “Green Placenta”? Really?

    • Ted S.

Mrs. RJ has a sad about you disbelieving the green placenta.

    • Ownbestenemy

Story dropped on the day early voting starts in AZ I believe. So ya, she is hoping for some weird October surprise.

      • Ownbestenemy

        Oh and this gem…

“She told investigators she did not get a medical exam after the assault.”

      • R.J.

Of course she didn’t. Because it never happened.

    • db

When I saw that the other day my immediate thought was this had to be a fake and/or “she” made up this name at some point

They don’t even know what happened and they’re gonna riot

With the enthusiastic encouragement of the mayor and the governor.

    • R.J.

And most likely their enthusiastic checkbooks.

    • Fourscore

      There’s a simple solution.

The state/city can turn over alien criminals to ICE for deportation or convict them and lock them up.

      • rhywun

They refuse to do that. In fact, passed laws specifically preventing it.

  14. slumbrew

    “… of strangers.”

    Important caveat.

  15. Ted S.

Apparently the lefties are going nuts that Trump isn’t letting OSCE “election observers” in.

They weren’t going to the corrupt TEAM BLUE areas anyway.

    • sloopyinca

I can’t wait for the think pieces coming up that say “Hitler Mussolini not as bad as Trump.”

      • R.J.

        That’s fantastic

  16. R C Dean

Somebody explain to me why this is the federal government’s responsibility.

Inevitably, the people who are supposedly going hungry fall on the spectrum from “well-fed” to “obese”.

  17. Common Tater

“WASHINGTON — Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico’s volunteer group has been privately fretting over his prolonged absence from the campaign trail, leaked Slack messages obtained by The Post reveal.

Talarico, who has type 1 diabetes, last had an in-person public campaign event on gas prices on Sept. 26 — 12 days ago. He was seen at a private fundraiser in New York City headlined by Robert De Niro on Sept. 28, though he did appear at a virtual Hispanic Business Council forum on Sept. 30.”

Was there much ass eating on the campaign trail?

    • Ownbestenemy

Talarico, who has type 1 diabetes.

Highly important detail placed for future reference to other news agencies when they start running cover for him I guess.

    • (((Jarflax

      Virtual Hispanic? so like Beto?

  18. R C Dean

I do like the firing squad idea though.

As you know, I regard firing squads as field expedients for the military. I guess as a matter of tradition we can keep them for military executions.

But really, rifles are not the right tool for the job at these short range of an execution. He’s not tied to a post 200 yards downrange. He’s at ideal shotgun range. 5 loads of 00 to the torso and we won’t have that embarrassing “oopsie, he survived” thing that they had with that chick last week.

Speaking of which, I thought if you survived execution you were freed. What are they going to do with her, anyway?

    • Common Tater

If they had to put her on a ventilator, did she actually survive? Couldn’t they just pulled the plug?

      • CatchTheCarp

Or smother her with a pillow.

    • (((Jarflax

The schedule calls for embalming after the execution, followed by burial. I say we honor the schedule.

      • UnCivilServant

They couldn’t find the vein to put the execution chemicals in. What makes you think they’ll find it to pump the formaldehyde in and drain the blood out?

      • (((Jarflax

If they fail at step two, step three will solve the problem eventually.

    • UnCivilServant

RC, it’s not about optimum, it’s about tradition.

Military firing squads were done using whatever service weapons the soldiers carried, which have been rifles since the days of the civil war. (That whole ‘rifled musket’ transitional terminology notwithstanding) They really should use M4s to fit tradition, but it’ll probably be some flavor of .308.

      • R C Dean

I think once the soldiers see what 5* loads of 00 buckshot do to this jihadi, they’ll have a new tradition.

*I just made up 5. Don’t know how many shooters there are for a firing squad.

    • R.J.

Rifles designed for pistol loads would be ideal. Henry .357 lever actions would make magnificent holes at that distance.

      • EvilSheldon

Interesting bit of trivia – Utah, according to state law, uses the Winchester Model 94 carbine in .30/30 and the Winchester Super-X 150grn. soft point cartridge for state executions. It makes me wonder if Winchester keeps a tiny production line running just for the UDC…

      • Common Tater

The soft point is because tubular magazine. No idea why they would want that for close range.

    • DrOtto

Saw a meme yesterday asking “Who knew lethal injection was safer than Covid shots?”

    • EvilSheldon

There’s not going to be any ‘Oopsie, he survived’ with a military firing squad. If the condemned prisoner survives the initial volley of rifle fire, the officer in charge of the detail delivers the coup de grâce with a pistol at close range.

Reference the original 1971 film The Day of the Jackal for a pretty good recreation of the process. Do yourself a favor and don’t see any of the remakes.

      • Ted S.

Nitpick: the novel is 1971. Assuming you meant the Fred Zinnemann movie, it came a few years later.

    • UnCivilServant

Oh, so it’s an “Our procedures do not account for this circumstance” rather than “We are too technically inept to stop it.”

    • Common Tater

I have no idea, but going from 30-06 to 308 is not changing much.

      • UnCivilServant

Exactly. But I have .308, but not .30-06 . I know it’s simple to acquire .30-06, but would prefer not to.

    • EvilSheldon

There are a few specialty outfits that will do it. It’ll probably cost way more than the ammo savings will be worth.

      • UnCivilServant

        You misunderstand the motivation.

It’s not about the money, its about inventory simplification.

    • DEG

The CMP auctions them off on gunbroker every now and then. It looks like none are up right now.

There were two military versions. I don’t remember the designations off the top of my head. One used a chamber bushing instead of rebarreling. With that one, there is no way to permanently attach the bushing, so sometimes the bushing comes out.

      • UnCivilServant

        sometimes the bushing comes out.

        😱

I suppose that means “look for a rebarrelled version”.

      • DEG

Yes, get the rebarrelled version, not the bushing version.

  19. CatchTheCarp

The neighbor kid 3 houses down from us installed some obxnoxiously loud exhaust on his older F-150 pickup. He works construction so he leaves for work at 5:15 AM each day. For the past 2 weeks everyone on the street is woken up when he starts the truck which is parked on the street. Then he goes ripping off down the street where I can still hear his truck blocks away. He lives with his parents whom are oblivious and apparently hard of hearing. I have a new can of expanding spray foam that I am tempted to use in an attempt to restore the peace.

    • UnCivilServant

Make sure you plan the disposal of the body carefully.

Oh, you weren’t planning to use the foam on him

      • UnCivilServant

Exhaust pressures simply expel fruits and vegetables.

      • Ownbestenemy

      • Common Tater

My understanding it was three threesomes.

      • R C Dean

That’s my understanding, too. And she “only” had sex with four of the Cornell Seven. One tried to get in on the action and she pushed him away (that’s gotta leave a mark). It seems unusual for the woman to pick and choose who participates in a gang rape, but whatever.

The other two came in, saw what was going on, and passed on it. Not sure why they’re in the mix at all, to tell you the truth.

All three were arrested shortly after the butchering, but Cookie, who allegedly wielded the knife, was released from the Val Verde County Correctional Facility in Del Rio on Tuesday.

The Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office and Correctional Facility confirmed to the New York Post that the Diaz family paid $200,000 to secure the teen’s $2 million bond, while her older sister remains behind bars.”

Did College Football cameramen get a raise before the season or do they deserve a raise?

The broadcast was in the middle of a two-point attempt, Houston down 26–28, 49 seconds left, and the camera guy did the only logical thing. He found the real story.
Zoomed all the way in. Locked on. Hands behind her head, red top, not blinking. Meanwhile the sideline is losing its mind and the announcer is out here going, “Wow. Just look at her. I’m speechless. Who is this missile?”
Missile. Sir, there is a football game happening. Fourth quarter. Two-point try.

You just called a coed in the student section a missile and nobody in the truck told you to cut back to the field.
That’s not a camera operator. That’s a man who has seen enough 3rd-and-longs to know where the ratings actually live. He deserves a raise, a bonus, and maybe his own booth. The rest of the crew was tracking a kicker. He was tracking national television.
