Thursday Morning Links

The Padres swept the Cubs. The Yankees swept the Red Sox. The Phillies and Braves will finish their series tonight. And our long national local nightmare in Houston is over. The NHL season is underway, and it feels like it’s a month too early, but I’ll take it. UEFA Nations League will be back today, without Ronaldo, who walked away from his team because he’s a giant baby. And that’s it for sports.

Cutting the fat. Good. Keep going.

Sometimes you gotta say “no comment.” Being a federal judge when those cases will come before you is one of those times.

Bring back the gallows. Or the firing squad. Or something other than this ridiculous cocktail of drugs.

This works a lot better than perjury traps. Especially when you don’t research your facts when trying to trap someone who’s very clearly done shit that’s a lot worse.

Is this pandering taken to the extreme? Or just complete retardation? You decide.

Canada…such a silly place. At least they didn’t kill an old person without their consent this time.

Then why’d you let them out on bail? Wish they’d have followed up with that question.

More on the UK being completely insane. Words are exactly as bad as violence there, apparently.

This is an interesting piece. Not sure I agree with the final conclusion about AI, but I do agree that the bubble is there and it’s huge.

This is weird as shit. The “she needs to be made whole” got a chuckle.

Here’s a lovely ditty. As were so many of his tracks. Like this one. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Thursday, dear friends.

    Ooof. Right in the kidney…

Sean, re Slow Horses – the politics are ridiculously left wing, as in all of Britain’s threats are coming from “the far right” but the saving grace is that it shows government as corrupt and incompetent.

That aside it’s worthwhile; some great acting, especially Gary Oldman. There is also very little plot armor – beloved secondary characters can and do get killed off, which raise the stakes nicely.

      • Sean

        Noted. Thanks.

      • slumbrew

And of course, since “UK”, there will be multiple situations where you will think “this wouldn’t be an issue if the protagonist had a gun as well”.

    That’s my only kidney,

    • Necron 99

Same. Although were I plowed into by a skydiver, my first thought would be the state of my slice of pie.

the bubble is there and it’s huge

education is essential and should be free. Forgive all student loans.

    • (((Jarflax

Education is essential, make the idiots pay the loans off and hope they finally learn something from the process.

      • PieInTheSky

poor people should have the equal opportunity to dick around for a few years in liberal arts college.

  4. PieInTheSky

    Canada…such a silly place.

I found it pleasant for a 2 week visit, except the mosquitoes.

    • Chipping Pioneer

Now you know how the rest of us feel about you … people?

    • sloopyinca

I didn’t see where your link was going to at first and thought this was about an H-1B Visa scam.

Or something other than this ridiculous cocktail of drugs.

If I may suggest the guillotine? Not only is it foolproof with a minimum of maintenance and humane (as far as methods of execution go), it is also well-suited for the kind of high-volume work that we need at this juncture.

    • Rat on a train

      Build the death coaster.

    • (((Jarflax

We pretend we care about the pain the recipient suffers, but all the new execution technologies increase that pain to avoid visible damage. It is yet another stupid optics focused idea. Massive damage inflicted instantly to the brainstem, whether from bullet, blow or blade, is the least pain. There’s no comparison.

  6. R C Dean

Then why’d you let them out on bail?

But the terrorists were given strict instructions not to leave the area until their next court date.

    Strict. Instructions.

More on the UK being completely insane.

Students in at least one college of Cambridge University will be forced to take mandatory ‘inclusivity training’ from the start of the new term next week, The Spectator has learned.

The 90-minute sessions are being delivered by Stop Hate UK. This group has published a video demanding that university students must always display ‘positive attitudes’ and ‘use respectful and kind language that will not cause harm or offence.’

Its training syllabus for ‘educational settings’ tells students that their right to free speech should be ‘restricted by other duties, responsibilities, and legislative and contractual obligations’ and teaches them how ‘opinions, attitudes and prejudice are influenced and shaped by unconscious bias, media bias, fake news, etc.’

    • (((Jarflax

That is both gay and retarded.

      • rhywun

        And totalitarian.

Just go full marxist already, the UK. You’re 95% of the way there.

      • R C Dean

I think we will see (again) how Marx was wrong. Once taken over by commies, the state doesn’t with away. It becomes Islamist.

    This is weird as shit.

Gotta admit, that satellite shot of Burning Man looks awfully geometric and controlled for a temporary autonomous zone/anarchotopia.

    • slumbrew

I’ll defer to our burning Glib (JI?) but it hasn’t been those things in decades.

      • juris imprudent

The unofficial event that happened in ’21 during the dread scourge of COVID was a study in spontaneous self-organization. I’ve been saying ever since that the Org should have learned from that, and of course has not.

    • Rat on a train

A business without organization is less profitable.

      • juris imprudent

We don’t think of it so much as a business as a religion – the 10 principles and all.

    • juris imprudent

BWAHAHAHAhahahaha. Allow me to introduce you to the Placement Team!

Yes Mr. Dean, that was a perfect goad for me to get back to writing up my examination of bureaucratic rigidity as exemplified by DoD and Burning Man.

  10. rhywun

Is this pandering taken to the extreme? Or just complete retardation? You decide.

Hijab, schmijab. Pursuing this sort of BS is ridiculous. It’s a circumspect, chickenshit way to claim to address problems their people bring to the UK but won’t “solve” jack shit.

  11. rhywun

    “safer snorting”

JFC. How to say you have lost complete control of your prison population without saying you have lost complete control of your prison population.

    • Rat on a train

To reduce risk of impurities causing health issues the prison will be providing the drugs.

      • rhywun

Was it Vancouver that is already doing that? I read about one of those “safe” drug dens some city provides starting furnishing the drugs, too.

    • slumbrew

Robby has the ass sex covered these days.

      • PieInTheSky

Honestly the asian dude looks more like the wife in the relationship.

      • slumbrew

Have you seen his husband? It’s like someone prompted Grok, “show me a picture of a twink”.

Believe it or not, Robby’s gotta be the top.

      • rhywun

Believe it or not, Robby’s gotta be the top.

        lol

      • Beau Knott

Meh. They may both be sides, i.e., oral only. Yes, that’s really a thing.

      • rhywun

        Yup.

      • slumbrew

But that’s not nearly as funny as Robby being the top.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        “Robby’s gotta be the top.”
        Bottom comment of the day.

    • Rat on a train

They also care about social invitations.

Well, the “all the Mexicans anybody could want” part of the platform got taken care of, so . . . .

I do not want to opine on what went on. But, if I may be trivial for a moment, can we agree that gangbangs with one chick and several dudes are kinda gay?

  13. Chipping Pioneer

    OK, TOS.

      Brooksed it.

Idaho becomes the only U.S. state with a firing squad as its primary execution method starting July 1, with trained police officers expected to pull the triggers.

So I would assume the condemned is made to wear a Furry dog suit?

Largest Roman anchor ever found weighing 5,500 lbs and is 13.5 ft long.
Due to the size of the anchor, it must have belonged to a massive ship, the largest Roman shipwreck found had a carrying capacity of 500-600 tons but this anchor and ancient sources tell of larger ships.🧵

The violence of recent days around high schools, in the lost territories of France, is far from trivial. Far-left elected officials support and excuse it. We must therefore see it for what it is: a dress rehearsal, a small-scale preview of the chaos that Mélenchon and LFI are preparing for France.

Mélenchon knows history. He knows that every revolution needs agitators, useful idiots, and thugs to instill terror in the country until it finally gives in.

Robespierre had his sans-culottes, Lenin his Red Guards. Mélenchon has his bands of riffraff. The era changes, but the method, it, does not.

We will not let France be handed over to this alliance of the far left and the riffraff. We will fight them relentlessly, for France has not had its last word.

    https://x.com/ZemmourEric/status/2105281497296990665

I don’t think French high schoolers need much reason to burn shit. Still I say double the education budget. why not, at this point.

EU Commission staff refuse to move to Brussels North station due to crack smoking, public defecation & human trafficking.
The EU’s disastrous migration policies also destroyed Brussels North, but Eurocrats think only regular people should have to live with the consequences.

Pie, I see another failed attempt at forming a government in Romania. What’s a local take?

    • PieInTheSky

The parliament is split no one has a majority the president is useless (functionally, no one knows what interests he serves). No one expected the government to form

  19. Raven Nation

Of course, I understand the general antipathy here to TOS, BUT

    1. Zach Weismuller has been doing some good vids lately on socialism in the US

    2. There’s also a fairly new guy named Aaron Brown who’s a stats prof at NYU and UC – San Diego. His vids specialize in taking down statistical malpractice (he’s done one on global warming [although he’s in the Bailey camp that it’s a problem but not an existential one], marijuana, and he did a pretty ruthless critique of Robert Reich).

    As always, YMMV.
