Sasquatch Sunset

Well, I waited what feels like two full years for this to finally hit streaming. This probably had some odd licensing agreement that meant it only went to school libraries for over a year before hitting popular streaming platforms. Tonight we are watching this on Pluto as well, which is always dicey. Pluto yanks stuff without a moment’s notice all the time, whereas it is only an occasional hazard on Tubi.

This is a very odd film in the sense that there is no dialogue, just vignettes from the lives of sasquatches.

So what is it about? Today’s summation comes from… Olisilumea:

In the misty forests of North America, a family of Sasquatches-possibly the last of their enigmatic kind- embark on an absurdist, epic, hilarious, and ultimately poignant journey over the course of one year. These shaggy and noble giants fight for survival as they find themselves on a collision course with the ever-changing world around them.

Makes it sound like a normal film, right? Well it isn’t. This has less dialogue than Caveman with Ringo Starr. Also the actors had to perform through think masks and makeup, so emoting took extra effort. And the realistic nature scenes turned people off. One commenter who posted a reviews said “What the Hell is this? Why was it made?” Indeed. It wasn’t made for that guy.

But it might have been made for Glibs. Here are the highlights: Sasquatches! Sasquatch crap! Sasquatch sex! Sasquatches eating grub worms off logs! Avoidable death! Will this movie go down in Glibs lore, or is it just another Sasquatch movie? Only you can decide!

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! I will figure out something for next week – there is a lot of different films in the hopper. Maybe a showing of original Robin Hood with the accompanying Bugs Bunny cartoon? Remember there are no rules on Thursdays! If you hate the film, talk about your garden, or your lumbago.

I’m not even going to try to use Pluto.

      • R.J.

That’s not a bad idea. The commercials really take you out of the zone.

      • Chafed

I will not tolerate bad talking PlutoTV. Between Star Trek and Baywatch they meet most of my TV needs.

Many commercials on Pluto. It’s taking me out of the moment.

    • rhywun

They don’t seem any more numerous than on Tubi. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

At least the election propaganda is quiet for now.

      • Common Tater

I don’t see ads on Tubi. Pluto just freezes and fails when it hits the first commercial.

      • rhywun

Maybe a smaahht TV thing. The ads are equally frequent on both.

    • Threedoor

Steve Smith put the moment back in you.

Such whiny complainers, y’all. According to experts, this film “received generally favorable reception from critics.”

‘Specially with the cast, seems like a ‘Go out and get fucked up with folk and have fun.

    • R.J.

      No one has complained. Yet.

      • UnCivilServant

Is that why you didn’t ask to read a copy of my review early?

      • R.J.

No. Part of the fun is seeing if you loved or hated it.

        “No one has complained. Yet.”

I show a lot of avant garde stuff to you folks, but this was one of the most unusual. So far. Many unusual films to come this year.

I’m heading off to bed. I’ll be around Sunday to see UCS’s review.

    Thanks RJ!

    Short on dialogue.?

Uptil now Valhalla Rising is the movie I think of when limited dialogue comes up.

VR is minimalist and brutal, but I still liked it.

I can’t wait for this. 2.5 hours to go.

  16. Aloysious

Also, Sasquatch Sex… is that what we’re calling STEVE SMITH style now?

    • Common Tater

YOU WILL KNOW STEVE SMITH STYLE AND BY STEVE SMITH STYLE

I’m start to think that glibs keep checking my browser because it is using third-party cookies.

    • R.J.

Ooo… let me pass that on. It is not working for me either.

      • rhywun

        +1

I was trying to use it last week & no luck

  18. UnCivilServant

A slew of Robin Hoods arrived today.

As I rip them, it seems wrong to Not be pirating them.

  19. Chafed

That Casablanca short was amusing. It’s too bad the comments are off. That’s the sort of thing that attracts funny ones.

  20. Chafed

It appears every Democrat political consultant has told every Democrat candidate at every level of California government to run against Trump. It’s one of the most brain dead strategies I’ve seen.

    • Common Tater

They can run on their record.

    • rhywun

Every Democrat everywhere has been running against Trump since approximately 2016.
