STEVE gets around, this tape is from Britain. Or maybe he just raped some footballers during the World Cup…

Demonwarp

Today we have a very special movie, from a very special Glib. Yes, he found me again, even though I moved far away. I will say that STEVE has interesting taste. I had never heard of this movie which has sasquatches, aliens, and zombies! And it’s from the eighties! So without any further chatter, here is the crude letter which was left with the VHS tape on my doorstep:

Trivia! This movie was made in 12 days. Does it show?

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! Next week you have a choice: East German Sci Fi, or White Punks on Dope from TedS!

You can’t buy anything for 1.99 now.

Sounds like a forex arbitrage opportunity.

    • R.J.

No. I used to get DVDs at the dollar store for a buck. Three Stooges, old cartoons, etc… Those days are gone.

      • Common Tater

You can’t even rent a stream for 1.99

      • Fourscore

At the Dollar Store today I saw a basket of videos, “a buck and up”

I didn’t look since I never have time to sit and watch TV/videos,

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I still have some. Wish I’d bought The Big Picture.

      • Fourscore

Toxteth, I spent 5 years in France at remote microwave stations. French cook that didn’t speak much English. If we wanted a haircut we went on the economy. A little shopping, etc.

Actually I did get a chance in VN to use French, the Montangard kids had gone to school with French proselytizers and some of the kids spoke French. In town the better educated VN spoke French.

I had also been to VN Language School (where I met my wife) but I’ve totally forgotten that.

Two 32oz fountain drinks from Casey’s gas stations after tax costs $1.99 in Northern Missouri depending on which county you purchase it in… They’re having a Summer sale to lure you into buying their overpriced pizza slices.

      • R.J.

        Is the pizza any good?

      • Sean

        At a gas station? RJ…🤣😂

      • kinnath

        Better than most.

We used to get fresh pizzas for carry out from Casey’s when the kids were still at home.

Casey’s specializes in setting up in small towns. It is not uncommon for them to be the only place in town to buy ready-to-eat foods. The breakfast sandwiches and burritos are pretty good actually.

      • Trigger Hippie

RJ, Sean…kinnath is correct. Pound for pound, dollar value per dollar value, Casey’s pizza (when pre-ordered via takeout) is pretty fucking good. A better value than most commercial chains. +1 to the loaded breakfast burrito. Scrambled eggs, queso dip, shredded cheddar, bacon, hash browns, sausage, all wrapped in a corn flour tortilla at a reasonable price for gas station fair.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

My ex’s favorite was Casey’s maple donuts

      • Trigger Hippie

…All that being said; Unless I’m in a pinch, I’m not spending $4 after tax on a slice when I can spend thirty cents more on a frozen Tony’s pizza and keep myself fed damn near all day.

      • kinnath

I can make far better pizza at home.

But there are still times when 2 slices of ready-to-eat at 6 bucks meets my needs.

      • DrOtto

Say what you want, but they’re no Kum & go.

      • trshmnstr

        RIP Kum & Go.

At least they kept the ethanol free gas when they changed the name on all of them.

      • (((Jarflax

Casey’s pizza is a road trip guilty pleasure for me, as are Sinclair chicken strips. The pizza is more consistently decent, but the best chicken strip I ever had was from a Sinclair gas station in Northern Montana on the Blackfoot Res. It was on the way to Glacier Park, headed toward the East entrance, but an hour or so away.

Boy, we got plenty! It’s every day right now. It is interfering with construction projects.
It is all coming from due South, heading due North which is an odd direction.

Seriously, a health sign (not jaundice!) was observed on me today. I’m okay for now but I can’t trust my housemates for help. My mother is too checked out, and if I collapsed B would probably accuse me of malingering then kick me in a kidney. Perhaps while himself falling over.

I don’t think he comes to this URL anymore. Busy with X rants.

At least this sitch came late in my life.

    • Fourscore

I couldn’t handle any more excitement. Quiet and boring. Tomorrow is a day visit with a classmate that is in assisted living and he really needs assistance. He sits in a recliner, can’t get out of it without assistance, the into a wheelchair with his helper holding him, to the bathroom, I’m not sure what goes on in there, female attendant.

Today I visited another classmate/my best friend. In the past month he’s went from working outside on cars to sitting in a recliner, needs a walker inside and out.

He’s alone at home but his kids check on him everyday, bring food, etc.

At least all three of us still have somewhat of a memory, even if the voice is getting weak. Getting old sucks.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Merci, monsieur.

Gotta catch up last few days. Swept off my feet. Venting parce je m’en fous.

        “Getting old sucks.”

I lament this to my small handful of coworkers around fifteen years younger than me but still try to appreciate that I’ve lived long enough to be “The Old Guy” at the job sites. Especially considering what I was doing between 16-26…ever been high on exctasy, Xanax, Valium, weed, morphine, meth, acid, and opium all at the same time while a psychopath crackhead has a pistol pointed at your face screaming about how that 1/4 ounce bag of Mexican dirt weed you sold him was .02 grams short according to his personal scales?

Fun times. Ah, to be 22 again.

For some reason, I have this awful temptation for more food.

      • rhywun

any update on the Trump speech?

        Wild guess – something stupid.

      • Gender Traitor

Caught less than a minute of Trump’s speech as we were sitting down to a late dinner (before switching over to a NatGeo show about Minoan archeological sites on Crete.) At that point he was talking about the information that turned up (at the FBI?) in a bunch of burn bags that never got burned and saying they’d be releasing a bunch of declassified documents. We’ll see if it turns out to be anything.

      • Evan from Evansville

@GT: Ha! That’s exactly the bit I saw. I wondered WTF, why this? WHAT this?!

I’m glad I changed back to Clarkson’s Farm.

      • R C Dean

“they’d be releasing a bunch of declassified documents”

        Here we go again.

Step 1: We’re gonna do Good Thing X.

        There is no Step 2.

      • rhywun

Who knows. The MSM are desperate to censor whatever is happening which tells me there is something to it.

    Huh. Bad dreams?

“[Bruce] Barlow’s involvement continued with Demonwarp (1988), an independent sci-fi horror depicting alien demons possessing victims in a remote forest, where he provided makeup effects for the possessed characters and monstrous entities. His 1980s output concluded with contributions to Leviathan (1989), a deep-sea sci-fi horror involving mutated underwater creatures aboard a mining vessel, in which he worked in the makeup department on creature prosthetics and effects.”

I am the rusty cotter pin upon which this household depends. Here’s a buck: go replace me at Ace. Yell at it for a change.

    • Brochettaward

I’m assuming this is referring to Yusef/Bob?

  13. Brochettaward

Trump may have just pulled off the biggest corporate handout in history, wittingly or not.

Consumers pay jacked up prices, corporations get a refund. Sounds about right for this country. I’m sure they’ll lower prices without those tariffs any day now.

    • Threedoor

      What fresh retardation is this?

      • Brochettaward

US government has refunded $81 billion to importers this year after Supremes overturned Trumps tariffs.

      • Threedoor

        Dumb.
When FedEx sent me a bill for a tarrif plus an additional $15 service fee I sent the bill back and wished them luck in their lawsuit and made sure to note that I knew they wouldn’t be refunding me when they won.

It’s not like they could have collected that $21 from me anyway.

FedEx delivered at my place today and has many times since I didn’t pay their silly bill. It had no teeth and I knew I wouldn’t get a refund when it got overturned.

      • Brochettaward

Yea but a lot of these mega corps will get to double dip. First taking from the consumer and then from the government.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Socialized monied interests and individualized losses…sounds about right.

    • R C Dean

Could have easily set up a process where they had to show they hadn’t passed it on to consumers and dragged it out long enough that practically nothing would have been refunded.

  14. Toxteth O'Grady

Anyone here for part-time caregiving in San Diego? Thought not but if so, kindly direct inquiries to Bob. I’m going to sleep.

  15. Aloysious

I have a tasty beverage in hand, and I’m going to try to watch it. If I fall asleep on my keyboard, wake me up and send me to bed.

  16. Toxteth O'Grady

I had to brace my bedroom door with my own heft recently. Proven.

I know I should be talking to lawyers a/o social workers, but did I mention IDGAFA?

    • Toxteth O'Grady

Re the doorstep weirdo, apparently I should have gone for the handgun, not the shotgun.

I put the stamp on crooked. EVERYTHING I DO IS “WRONG”.

      • dbleagle

Jeebus Toxeth. My advice still stands. Find a women’s shelter for a few days and put up with their BS. Sleeping with one eye open sucks.

      • Brochettaward

Things don’t seem good obviously. It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on specifically though to offer any other advice but what you said dbleagle.

I don’t even know what the exact relationship is here. Not fishing either. I have no problem with anyone venting either, but it seems like the situation may be past the stage where just a little venting is called for.

    • Sean

Be safe TOG. Get the help you need.

      • Gdragon

I second this. It may sound corny but Toxteth, you are worth more and you deserve better.

A real county wouldn’t allow criminals to hold government jobs

Agencies in Montgomery County, Maryland, would be restricted in hiring former federal immigration enforcement officers under a bill before the county council.

The Community Trust in County Employees Act would apply to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection officers or government contractors employed since Oct. 1, 2025 “to support, direct, administer, aid, or otherwise participate in the enforcement of federal immigration laws.”

      • Ted S.

How about nobody who worked for FedGov gets to work for local government?

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

        “Montgomery County Immigrant Rights Collective”
        And there you go.

Looks like Montgomery County. If anywhere is pro-illegal alien, it’s there.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, Stinky, Ted’S., Roat, and Bro!

      • UnCivilServant

Morning, GT. How are things today?

      • Gender Traitor

OK so far. Taking my car in this morning for an oil change and to have a couple of other things checked out, which could end up costing a lot more. Luckily I got paid my semi-annual incentive today…which may all go to car maintenance and repair.

        How about you?

      • UnCivilServant

Well, I don’t get a semi-annual incentive. I do get an annual “We’re sorry you’re still here” longevity payment in April for having too many years in. It used to be years in grade but last contract changed it to just years in the state, so I can’t avoid it by getting promoted. If the new contract gets approved (I suspect I will get outvoted and it will be) there will be retro pay to cover the difference between the end of last contract rate and the new contract rate back to the end of last contract.

Oh, you meant how I was doing. For some reason I sat around last night despite being tired, despite knowing I needed to get some sleep, despite wanting to, I just didn’t leave my chair to actually do it until around 1am. So I’m tired this morning now too. I can’t explain why I sat there, doing nothing in particular, when everything said “go to sleep”

      • UnCivilServant

As far as I can tell, everyone’s overreacting to the actual amount of smoke reaching this area.

      • Sean

It was hazy AF here last night, with a definite smell of smoke in the air.

This morning is still pretty hazy, but the odor isn’t quite as strong right now.

    • UnCivilServant

Used to be they tried to hide it.

In principle, good that broadcasters aren’t in thrall to politicians engaging in grandstanding.

In practice, we know this is a “principals vs. principles” issue.

I remember when I was kid and we were mostly stuck with the networks it was nice being able to flip to the Canadian/American channels if the PM/President was tying the other country up with their blah blah blahing.
