David Grisham put “Old Glory” back up above the Borger Post Office in the Texas Panhandle after Trump ordered flags to be lowered for one week following the country icon’s death at age 80.

      • Ted S.

I hope he sues her and the therapist into penury.

      • UnCivilServant

The therapist would be a difficult legal challenge to sue. We don’t have the exact words, which were said in private, and did not extend to a cause of action like tortuous interference. Privately defaming someone to someone not associated with the target of the defanation doesn’t result in the kind of damages you can sue over.

      • EvilSheldon

The therapy industry has a lot to answer for.

      • Fourscore

So the automated taxis are putting taxi drivers out of business. Where will I get my financial advice?

I’ll need a therapist to keep me informed or maybe AI.

I’ll check with Lisa, she sounds like someone I can trust.

      • R C Dean

Defamation can occur in one-on-one “private” conversations involving people not associated with the target, and doesn’t require another tort like tortious interference. Of course, nobody knows about those conversations until one of the participants runs their yapper, but you can definitely rope in the person who made the defamatory statement in the private conversation.

Damages are a different question, but defamation per se (which includes saying somebody committed a crime) opens the door to punitive damages, so actual damages need not be shown.

    • PieInTheSky

I learned in my harassment training the proper way to slap a female intern on the ass. You don’t just go in for the slap first you get behind her, rub her shoulders a bit, ask how she is adjusting to the company etc. Then if it is your sirs interaction of the day you leave just giving her a slight tap on the but. You save the real stuff for later in the day.

Also you should not discriminate between interns. Not only slap the hot ones. Others will feel left out and exclusion is a form of bullying.

Requiring participation in a Level II USPSA match, is quite an ask for a club match.

It’s pretty common here (’cause BODs) to require “proof” that someone isn’t going to ND while holstering. Someone decided that a level II could be substituted in lieu of their clubs “safety class” and monkey see monkey do.

Maybe because military leaders always start with doing the minimum they think they can win with. Trump expected capitulation after first week of strikes? Lincoln thought 75,000 green militia men would be enough to drag the seceding states back into the Union.

““I want you to do your best to pronounce these words,” one woman asks her boyfriend in a clip viewed more than 8.8m times. He gamely nails his first attempt, reading off the herb “thyme”. But he’s less successful with “epitome”, “challah” and “fuchsia”. (“Foo-chia?” he guesses). “Conscientious” and “faux pas” also prove tricky. He ends up with a score of five out of 17, or 29% – very much a failing grade.

The couple laughed through the exercise, but viewers were not as charmed by an adult man struggling through what they considered basic vocabulary. “The fact that his vote matters just as much as mine is really pissing me off,” one woman wrote in the comments section. “I’m gonna be honest girl, this is worth breaking up with him over,” read another comment.

Two of the words the man correctly identified were “colonel” and “regime”, which, to one user, was evidence of a red flag: “he’s obviously a Republican”. (Maybe he just has an interest in military history, a time-honored hobby of boyfriends everywhere.) Regardless of political affiliation, it seemed fair game to dunk on Mr Foo-chia. One final quip from a viewer: “He’d be so upset if he could read these comments….

The test made its way around TikTok, with more young couples joining in, to similarly bleak results. Even those men who did well got caught up in the pop-misandry circus. One man zipped through the list, ending with a perfect score and a self-satisfied grin. It was not the flex he might have hoped for. “This is the barest fckn minimumest [sic] of bare minimums,” one woman commented. “The men are being praised for literacy we’re in hell,” wrote another.””

There’s a phenomenon that I (and others) have noticed of homeschooled kids who are extremely well-read but have never actually heard the pronunciation of certain words. “I was aware of that when I asked volunteers to hand out free gun locks in some of Virginia’s most conservative counties. I also knew the stakes: firearms are the leading cause of death among American children and teenagers, killing 2,581 children under 18 in 2023 alone.

But decades of polarization have made it near impossible to agree on even the simplest measures. Liberals caricature gun owners as uneducated rednecks or reckless young men stockpiling AR-15s; gun owners see liberals as bleeding hearts determined to confiscate their weapons. But keeping guns away from children seemed like the one place where we might meet.”

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2026/sep/03/gun-safety-rural-america

    That’s retarded.

    • R.J.

Firearms are the leading cause of death? I call bullshit. Household accidents and even cancer are higher.

      • Sensei

It’s always a qualified measure and it generally includes people of 18 sometimes 20s so that it can wrap in gang bangers.

      • R.J.

It was only 2,581 firearm deaths in people under 18 in 2023. So it is a reporting fallacy of the author’s own making. Easy look up:
“ In 2023, there were approximately 8,870 preventable injury-related deaths among individuals under age 18 in the home and community, derived from the statistic that those aged 0 to 18 comprise a small percentage of the 125,700 total home deaths,”

      • Common Tater

It’s bullshit, and it has little to do with “unsecured guns.” The gun was secured in the hands of other gang banger who shot him.

      • UnCivilServant

I donno. Gang bangers are not known for their secure handling.

    • R C Dean

They really don’t see that “keeping guns away from children” as being 100% consistent with “confiscating guns”.

    • R C Dean

RJ, they get there by adding up accidental shootings, suicides, and homicides. Safety locks only address accidental shootings (and possibly prevent some suicides).

      • Sensei

Also “children” is usually loosely defined as I noted above!

      • R.J.

Even with that, the statement that it is the #1 cause of death for people under 18 is easily disproven.

Come back when you own an AR-15 (bonus points for an SBR, silencer, and/or FRT) that you’ve shot a case of ammo through in the last year, and a Glock that you carry concealed every day. Then your opinion might be something other than utterly worthless.

House Democrats huddled Wednesday morning to weigh potential changes to internal party rules after a pair of centrist lawmakers crossed the aisle a day earlier to help Republican leaders advance a series of GOP messaging bills that were on track to fail.

The defections by Democratic Reps. Jared Golden (Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.) caught the Democrats off guard and infuriated both party leaders and many members of the caucus.

The episode prompted a special meeting of the lower chamber’s Democratic Committee on Caucus Rules, which has been charged by leadership with examining possible changes to the party’s internal guidelines in an effort to ensure that Democrats stick together on future rules votes.

Vote your conscience? Don’t be stupid. This is the United States Congress.

m>“Procedurally, this is about making sure that we maintain unity, whether we’re in the minority, or when we’re in the majority,” said Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), a member of the Committee on Caucus Rules. “Members — all members — have a right to vote their district. And the underlying bill is the opportunity to do that.”

      Jeffries echoed that message.

“It’s long understood what the dynamics are related to procedural votes connected to a rule,” Jeffries said.

If the party bigwigs want the bill to actually come to a vote on the floor, then you may be permitted to vote however you wish. Maybe.

  35. The Late P Brooks

The uproar stems from Tuesday’s vote on a GOP rule governing a series of bills that Republicans sought to pass this week as an eleventh-hour flourish lending them momentum and talking points heading into November’s midterm elections. The legislation included proposals to condemn socialism, roll back environmental protections and bar U.S. universities from participating in boycotts of Israel — all hot-button issues Republicans see as beneficial on the campaign trail.

The rule was poised to fail, because a handful of conservative Republicans voted against it to protest the decision by GOP leaders to fast-track a massive government funding bill earlier in the day. But Golden and Gluesenkamp Perez voted in favor of the rule to put it over the top, rescuing GOP leaders and salvaging much of the Republicans’ remaining preelection agenda.

Why can’t Republicans take governing seriously, instead of being obsessed with empty grandstanding?
