Pretty much the same deal for advanced practice nurses that can practice independently.
RN nursing is a little different, but essentially floor nurses are either employees or contractors of the hospital, and if you ain’t one of those, you’re a rando off the street. Floor nurses can’t administer drugs that haven’t been ordered by a doctor within the scope of his privileges.
Sounds like in this case, there was a prescription for ivermectin written. The term “prescription” is a clue that the doctor who wrote it wasn’t on staff at the hospital. Outside prescriptions mean nothing for inpatients; drugs won’t be administered until a doctor with the right privileges order that they be given, and the language used is nearly always “order” inside the hospital, not “prescribe”. Based on the way the article is written, I would say the appeals court got it right – the hospital didn’t administer a drug because there was no valid order to do so. Which, by the way, is a requirement of their license.
On the “holy cow, that is weird” front:
There is a show that I missed called “The Rehearsal” on HBO. A friend recommended it and I have to say, it is beyond anything I would have thought possible.
The premise: create exact duplicates of the scene – say a bar – where a subject confront a life-altering moment. Then hire actors to embody the people he will interact with so he can rehearse scenarios and perfectly navigate the situation.
Here is how my friend described it:
“Ok man take Andy Kaufmann’s most uncomfortable moment and multiply it by 1000 and that is this show. This guy is a mad genius. There has never been a show like this. It is a horror show that you cannot look away from. I can’t believe this is not a bigger deal.”

Episode one is about a guy who has been pretending to have a master’s degree to impress his trivia night team.
For over a decade.
He wants to come clean.
So they build a down-to-the-last-detail accurate replica of a local bar, do a fake interview with the woman on the team he is afraid of to train an actress to be able to embody her character and then rehearse his talk with her down to the very last detail. How many sips of his drink he takes, when he broaches the subject, how he greets her. Everything.
And then they film the real event. The results are… unexpected.
I kept thinking “these people really exist”.
It is the biggest twist on reality TV ever.
And yes… “hard pass” was my initial thought as well.
A: What trivia team is more impressed by a Master’s Degree than a knowlege of trivia?
B: If it matters that much why not get a Masters? They had them out like candy from the looks of modern academia.
C: There is no way the actors are going to reflect the reactions of the real people.
All true. And the reality is more bizarre than you expect.

I just had a problem with a Chevrolet. Left turn signal fast blinking intermittently. No burned out bulbs located.
It turns out, they do the fast blink by computer now.
The click and fast blink used to be side effects of the mechanical switch that operated the blinking, using heat from the current to turn the bulb on and off, making the click.
Now they use computers and voltage sensors to tell them if a bulb is out and make the lights blink with computer commands.
So….
It was either a faulty sensor, wiring issue, or faulty computer.
It was a corroded connection in the rear taillight assembly.
They charge $250 for a diagnostic screening these days – plugging in an ODB2 reader and finding out that the computer cant see the rear taillight.
Luckily, it was under warranty.
