Wednesday Afternoon Links of Substitution

by | May 27, 2026 | Daily Links | 93 comments

This joint needs a little lightening up what with SugarFree being in the hospital and all. These are substitute links, so here’s an ode to the greatest substitute teacher of all time.

NEWS FROM OCCUPIED VIRGINIA: Some Virginia Sheriffs and Commonwealth’s Attorneys (prosecutors) have announced that they will not enforce the Democrats’ so-called assault weapons ban set to take effect in July. In related news, the same Democrats failed, yet again, to establish legal weed markets, oddly foregoing all those vice tax dollars they could have gotten.

FOLLOWING THE MONEY: Far-left Turkish-American millionaire and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker appears to have committed an operational-security mistake by publicly identifying American Marxist tech financier Neville Roy Singham, who has reportedly been living in China and has been linked by The New York Times to CCP-aligned propaganda networks, as a major financier of pro-Marxist revolutionary NGOs operating inside the U.S.

INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH ON MALE SUPREMICISM: No, I’m not kidding, apparently that’s an actual thing, and NPR (of course) is only too happy to platform them and other SPLC-style grifters in a breathless little hit piece, dare I say hysterical, even, where the author brands the entire far-right, by which she means everyone to the right of NPR, of being part of a vast anti-women movement because of the manifesto of one of the San Diego mosque shooters and a couple of incels. Contrast this with the actual clear and present danger of Islamification and creeping Sharia law in the US. To say nothing about the actual plight of women in Iran, Afghanistan, and other Islamic shithole countries. Contrast these few fringe mutterings with the everyday feminist diatribes demonizing men.

GOVERNMENT FAIL OF THE DAY: California law enforcement tries to issue warning about child in danger, too long message, cuts off URL, new URL is spoopy.

BEWARE THE PRINTER FIRMWARE UPDATE: Customers allege HP firmware update deliberately disables older printers. The article also touches on the allegations that HP locks out certain third-party toner suppliers.

ISAACMAN ANNOUNCES NASA REORG: I really like this Isaacman guy. He’s streamlining the bureacracy and returning control and direct funding to the field centers, the places like Ames, Goddard, JPL, and KSC that do the actual work of NASA. This follows the earlier cutting of DEI positions and programs. SLDs apply.

THE LUNATICS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM: NOW, ACLU, and the Boston Mayor’s office all support this bullshit. Note that registration is required. Yes, they have simulated pregnancies, too. They expect us to pretend that this is normal, because the purpose of propaganda is subversion and humiliatation. Ironically-named person refuted this years ago.

GLIBS EDITORS DROPPING LIKE FLIES: Swiss has taken a leave of absence, effective immediately. I will be taking over Monday PM links and serving as managing editor. We have content through the weekend, but need content for Tuesday and Thursday midday.

I will try to submit part two this weekend.

  2. rhywun

committed an operational-security mistake by publicly identifying American Marxist tech financier Neville Roy Singham

I don’t get it – everybody knew all of this already. And it’s not like that trash is any more or less of a valid source of information than any of the rest of his kind.

  3. DEG

Law enforcement sent out a Bitly URL that was inadvertently truncated … which directed people to a weird file conversion website which is either spam or slop malware.

    What could possibly go wrong?

    • rhywun

Those URL shorteners are poison. Just like QR codes – never, ever click on one unless you absolutely trust the source.

      • Chafed

Well it’s from a branch of the California state government so….

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

So, it was Sloppy in CA?

  4. The Other Kevin

THE LUNATICS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM

So they’re like pretending to have periods? How is that any less offensive than identifying as disabled and having a wheelchair pride day?

    • Rat on a train

Don’t mock what the transabled have to endure.

    • Tonio

“identifying as disabled and having a wheelchair pride day”

I had forgotten about those nutters. I can’t condone violence, but I would certainly look the other way if you and your fellow sled hockey players put a stick in their spokes on a downramp.

      • Sean

        I can condone violence.

      • Nephilium

So there wouldn’t be an issue with a bunch of fans of a sports team breaking out feather headresses, leather vests, and face paint, right?

        I mean, we’re just trans-Indians.

  5. The Late P Brooks

Customers allege HP firmware update deliberately disables older printers.

    No freakin ay.

    • R.J.

Heh. I expect that to happen with my decade old Dell printer someday. It keeps chugging along. Multiple Windows updates have come close to disabling it.

      • Nephilium

Paper Cartridge: Load Letter [sized paper]

    • Chafed

It’s really sad to see what became of HP. They are a far cry from what they were.

      • Sensei

Thank Fiorina. The pieces scattered and are separate companies with rights to the brand.

      • DrOtto

It just took that long for Carly Fiorina’s vision to come to fruition. The original girl boss decided to take an immensely profitable company and merge it with another company that wasn’t profitable at all and was bleeding profusely (Compaq). Even after a large shareholder revolt, she was able to push the merger through. The husk of what they once were is what you see today. They should have stuck with printers.

    • rhywun

I like my little wireless HP laser printer. I don’t use it much and I doubt I would consider “updating” it – I mean, it already works.

  6. R.J.

And just like that, Tonio was back.

  7. rhywun

    this bullshit

Please tell me this isn’t about men pretending to menstruate. They need therapy, not “period pride”.

    • Tonio

[makes Jedi mind trick hand pass]

There was no link. You saw nothing.

      • Chafed

Lol. That may be the only way to not set off rhywun.

  8. The Late P Brooks

We have always been at war with Eastasia objective reality.

    GLIBS EDITORS DROPPING LIKE FLIES:

Holy shit. I am going on a two-week vacation, starting Friday night. Not sure if I can help. I will have enough problems cranking out GlibFlicks.

    • Tonio

I will have enough problems cranking out GlibFlicks.

They really don’t need to know how the content is produced, R.J. But if you skip one or two Glibflicks we’ll understand.

      • trshmnstr

        A broccoli headed alien’s love isn’t like a square’s love.

    • UnCivilServant

I have stacked twenty reviews in the hopper, so if you need a week or two off, the schedule can borrow some.

      • R.J.

        You are very kind.
I am watching the new Red Sonja right now, several Glibs have recommended it. I can at least hammer out next week’s post on that quickly.

  10. Gustave Lytton

Some Virginia Sheriffs and Commonwealth’s Attorneys (prosecutors) have announced that they will not enforce the Democrats’ so-called assault weapons ban

Copy from the WA (state) playbook: make elected sheriffs subject to and removable by the state

    • Rat on a train

Then they will replace all the DAs with Descano clones.

  11. The Late P Brooks

RSVP for directions to the meeting room.

It’s the door with the “Beware of Leopard” sign on it.

  12. R.J.

Neville Roy Singham being a commie financier is not any new news that Hasan spilled.

    • juris imprudent

Hey look, there isn’t even any Arabella Advisers! Nope, folded up shop then re-branded as some inane (and benign) sounding thing Sunshite Shittery or something.

So any bad thing that Arabella MIGHT have done doesn’t count anymore!!!

  13. The Late P Brooks

    cranking out GlibFlicks.

I watched Conan the Barbarian last night.

The real one, with Ahhnult and

    *reverent pause*

    Sandahl Bergman.

      • R.J.

        Oooo….

    • rhywun

The real one, with Ahhnult and

Oh fuck me, there is another one? Stop doing that, Hollywood.

    • Chafed

Love that movie. And I’m going to confess I liked the sequel.

  14. R.J.

“In her veto message, Spanberger held true to her original opposition to the bills. She said while she supported the concept of a retail market, she said it needs to be done ‘right.'”

    BY RIGHT MEAN…
    RAPE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS

    • Rat on a train

      She wants more racial quotas?

      • Fourscore

Check with Tim Walz. MN native Americans seem to have a leg up. Seems to be a lot of regular Americans selling as well.

Not sure how the unlicensed freelancers are doing, if there is any price competition but I don’t travel in those circles

    • Tonio

And now, the rest of the story…

This is the culmination of a longtime power struggle between the racial/social justice Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Louise Lucas who have long insisted upon putting people with prior, nonviolent MJ convictions at the head of the line for recreational MJ dispensaries. Republicans oppose this on alleged anti-crime grounds [Narrator: they are impeding legal weed by any means necessary]. Establishment and deep-state Democrats like Spanberger want the dispensaries to be run by establishment players like Altria (formerly Philip Morris). [Narrator: they are impeding legal weed by any means necessary]

      • rhywun

at the head of the line for recreational MJ dispensaries

We have that in NY. All the “dispensaries” are run by those types and their shady buddies hang out in front all day smoking weed.

        How progressive!

      • UnCivilServant

Rhy, don’t you recall that the licensing agency actually gave preferential treament to people with Marijuana convictions for getting licenses to run these. So, this retult is unsurprising.

      • Sensei

        NJ did the same.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

We have that in NY. All the “dispensaries” are run by those types and their shady buddies hang out in front all day smoking weed.

Tonight I’m headed to a teammate’s house, and tomorrow we drive to MN for the last tournament of the year. Out of 6 weekends, I will have played in 2 and coached 1. So not a complete waste of the season.

I would like to write this one up, but I’m supposed to be quiet about this type of thing because of my lawsuit. So maybe I will save it. Once that’s over I do plan on telling you all the story of the Big Crash.

    • Tonio

Good luck with the road trip and the tournament, and hopefully a post on that.

Looking forward to your story of the big crash.

    • rhywun

I only skimmed that. Does it mention that all of this is just to punish a disfavored class of people, rather than to actually finance anything significant?

      • Sensei

No, it’s going to raise money!

It’s a factual summary including the NYS calculated estimated tax revenue.

$500m I forget the period. Could be annual for all I know. In reality people will sell second homes and values will fall.

      • Rat on a train

Their messiah once stated that he would raise taxes even if it reduced revenue because it would be fairer.

      • rhywun

It is just as likely that I will shit $500MM out of my ass.

But yeah, you’ve got the likes of Mamdani and the commie sycophants/henchmen he surrounds himself with at every public appearance and their open hatred of “the rich” and Hochul playing along, if only more quietly, because she knows who’s buttering her party’s bread. It’s all just envy and hatred. But I’ll be damned if it doesn’t actually work for them.

      • The Other Kevin

It worked for Bernie for how many years now? 100?

    • Rat on a train

      They’re evil like data centers.

  16. Shpip

Where the author brands the entire far-right, by which she means everyone to the right of NPR, of being part of a vast anti-women movement

Remind the authorette that Islam is right about women. Watch her head pop like a ripe zit.

  17. The Late P Brooks

    Stop doing that, Hollywood.

    No such luck

I watched it by mistake recently. It could be a glibflick. It’s quite something.

    • R.J.

Oh yes. I will add that for you. I would prefer the original but it is nowhere to be streamed.

  18. Grummun

Tonio, I’ve got an article in the works, I’ll try get it in over the weekend.

    • rhywun

Tapped out after a couple sentences. I would rather retain my sanity for the rest of the evening.

  19. Sensei

Golly I can’t understand how placing such a large low probability event got him investigated.

For Michele Spagnuolo, these were sure bets because, as a Google software engineer, he had access to company data that tracked user searches, according to the complaint, which said Spagnuolo “misappropriated confidential and valuable nonpublic information from his employer and used that information to place a series of Google-related bets on Polymarket, a prediction market platform.”

This is one thing that FedGov does very well. Because it’s generally lucrative for FedGov in fines and disgorgement as well as makes press and careers.

Google employee charged with using inside information to make $1 million on Polymarket

The techbros on the prediction markets don’t quite understand how much experience Wall St. has here and the the lengths people there go to and still fail.

  20. Nephilium

I’m going out on a limb here. After two episodes of Spider-Noir, I’m impressed. Black and white is the way to go for watching it, as it fits the feel of the effects better.

    • kinnath

Good to hear. I actually like Nic Cage — most of the time anyway.

      It looked promising.

    • Beau Knott

      Oh yes, this please!

    • Homple

Shutting off the fekhing music would be a good start.

    • rhywun

Restaurants, apartment buildings, grocery stores, anywhere else I frequent….

  21. The Late P Brooks

I forced myself to go outside and run a tank of gas through the mower. Luckily, it started to blow and rain just as the motor sputtered to a halt.

    My “yard’ is a disaster.

    • DEG

UPS delivered the last part of my Arbor Day Foundation order just after I ate dinner and just before my post-yard-work-shower.

I’m going to plant the tree tomorrow. It’ll be fine.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

UPS delivered 4 butternut trees to my farm today. They soak tonight and will get planted tomorrow.

      • DEG

I’ll start soaking mine tomorrow when I get back from the gym. Plant later in the morning.

  22. Evan from Evansville

The ‘legal weed’ problem is enraging(ly) predictable. Legal or not, everyone knows it’s going to continue to exist. From there? It’s literally every bureaucrat, with heavy influence from black market pricing, fighting with each other, all trying to get as much of the cut as possible, every single step of the way.

And it will never go away, the WoD, cuz far too much power through every level of that ‘bickering’ is accumulated, and such Power$ will not be voluntarily ceded. And all unconstitutional, and no one gives a shit. Like, *really* doesn’t give a shit.

Well. I vape now, but could go back to herb if I pleased. I go to MI now, w Peru on the way, but I used to go to IL because they ‘legalized’ earlier. Danville. *Right* on the border for a reason! I switched cuz IL prices were ludicrous. No surprise nor accident, the herb was priced strategically compared to ‘on the street’ days. Buchanan, MI, also RIGHT on the border, is much, much cheaper, and even IL has improved from before.
