Wednesday Morning Links

The Stanley Cup has reached the final four teams. The Campbell Conference final kicks off tonight and the Wales Conference gets started tomorrow with a very rester Carolina team taking on a bloodied yet resilient Canadiens squad. I just hope Montreal loses soon. The NBA semifinals continue. And across the pond, the EFL Championship third place playoff continues to be an absolute mess with suspensions, lawsuits, appeals, and all kinds of drama. If only the NCAA took this dim a view of spying against the rules… And that’s it for sports.

Massie has lost his primary. What a bummer of an ending to a mostly principled career. I do think he went downhill after his wife died, but that’s not surprising. He will be missed.

Does it feel like these have taken a while? Or am I stuck on the delay of the VRA case, by the dissenters, in thinking these decisions should have come sooner? Anyway, a few of them are pretty big and I’m anxious to see how they play out.

She seems nice. Had she been a bit more subtle, she’d have probably gotten a ton of money from the DNC.

This is gonna cost the city a bunch of money. I wonder how fast the mayor will try to seize the settlement from her family by calling them greedy millionaires.

Is this becoming commonplace or is the media just sensationalizing isolated events? Until recently, I believed it was the latter, but I’m starting to think that was an incorrect assessment.

I really don’t care. I wonder if any of them will accuse the Jooz of having dogs rape them. Kristof is breathlessly waiting for their phone calls.

Throw the book at her. And go after the rest of the fraudsters please.

Good. They’re capable of their own defense from time to time. Out at least they would be if they hadn’t ridden the gravy train for several decades.

This is not surprising. We’ve seen this story a few times here and I wanted to give what appears to be a final update on it.

I wonder why they did this. I also eagerly await the lawsuits from enterprising attorneys accusing the county of causing their clients to get skin cancer. Because I’m sure they’re coming in the near future.

I wonder if they’ll ever reunite for a tour. Probably not. And that’s a bummer. Anyway, enjoy them.

And enjoy this lovely Wednesday, dear friends.

Jeffries, Black Caucus amplify calls for athletes to boycott SEC over Southern redistricting

Black Democrats on Capitol Hill are amplifying their calls for Black athletes to boycott state universities in the South, saying those schools have done nothing to fight the Republican gerrymandering that’s led to the elimination of minority districts.

Led by the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the lawmakers are joining the NAACP and other minority advocacy groups in advising Black athletes to seek other schools until the universities in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) — a powerhouse of college sports — come out publicly against the GOP’s redistricting campaign.

but their vector is correct, though

whether we agree with their cause, their peaceable use of economic and other levers to make their case and draw support is appropriate

I got shouted down here in the unpersoning years, but voting and Chevy vs Ford and boycotting Hobby Lobby are all perfectly legitimate

again, I think Callais was rightly decided and we should be post-racial (which is one of the top things about glibs dot com), and I don’t support public education, and I really don’t support sports in public education, but this sort of thinking when used by the right persons for the right reasons is totally legitimate; we merely disagree with the politics

      • Ted S.

Only for Vanderbilt. The rest of them, being government schools, have to stay out of politics.

      • dbleagle

I see this as a case of “Hey there youths. Listen to us older people who already benefitted. But you should give up your chance at winning the golden ring at a big name school for the righteous swell in your chest to play for Southern North Dakota College.”

upend more than 100 years of settled understanding that the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment grants citizenship to nearly all people born on U.S. soil

Where “settled understanding” = “we choose to ignore the actual meaning as explained by the authors of the fucking thing and their contemporaries”.

    • R C Dean

It certainly wasn’t the settled understanding when the law was passed naturalizing Indians.

      • Ownbestenemy

        This

      • WTF

The authors even explained that “under the jurisdiction of the United States” basically meant “not a citizen of someplace else”. Yet here we are.

        Reeding is hard.

  3. UnCivilServant

Speaking of Supreme Court Cases taking too long – what’s the status of the various suits against standard capacity magazine bans and “assault” weapon bans?

    • WTF

They’ll get around to it, eventually, sometime, maybe.
I actually don’t understand why they are so casual about clear violations of their Bruen ruling.

    • That Guy

No kidding. I’ve been waiting three years now in Illinois. It should be a slam dunk but I suspect some of the “conservatives” on the bench don’t want to be on record supporting those icky guns that are popular with the peasants.

      • WTF

Hell, I live in New Jersey, where almost all of the gun laws are in clear violation of the Bruen standard. Yet they persist unchecked.

      • Sensei

WTF – Our SC is too busy with the Mount Laurel decision.

      • R C Dean

I think most of the Justices, as members in good standing of the urban managerial class/the clerisy, have no deep-seated objection to gun control laws. Which, after all, land mostly on the icky class. In hindsight, they probably regret Bruen, and would decide it differently today.

      • Threedoor

        Yes please.
And don’t slipping bonds of levies during the primary or outside of the general election.

      • robc

        This.

Also, I can fix gerrymandering super easy.

        Single Transferrable Vote.

All House races are state wide. You vote rank choice, if your candidate is eliminated your vote is transferred to your next choice, if your candidate has more than enough votes, a fraction of your vote is transferred to your next choice. And etc.

        Wyoming has no chance.
California would require less than 2% to elect a candidate, every nutty idea gets to elect people.
Colorado would require 11.12% (8 seats, so 1/9th +1 vote). Could the LP or Greens get to that? Possibly. But it would probably go 5/3 left/right, so about in line with today.

If a state has a significant black democratic population, they can vote black democrats at the top of their ballot and elect one without having funky districts.

    • rhywun

I can’t vote in the primaries of my current state. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

        (Old herpetology joke is old.)

      • UnCivilServant

Wait, I thought Garter Snakes held up stockings while ribbon snakes held up hair.

      • EvilSheldon

That’s…actually pretty good. Consider it stolen.

  4. WTF

This is gonna cost the city a bunch of money.

Her vehicle appeared to be parked in a “no standing” zone near a bike lane, and outside the Cartier store that closed at 7 p.m., photos showed.

City attorneys can argue her own illegal action was a direct cause of her death.

    • sloopyinca

That’s not gonna fly though. I assure you they have a policy in place that says all open manholes have to have barriers around them. They violated that and down to the CHUDs she went. Her family will surely see seven figures from this.

      • WTF

Oh, they’ll still pay, but her own actions could be used to mitigate the amount. Then again it will be an NYC jury, so who knows?

      • UnCivilServant

Was it removed by the city, or by someone looking to sell the metal? If the latter, did the city know it had been taken?

      • sloopyinca

This never sees the inside of a courtroom. They’ll settle way before it gets to that point. They don’t want to publicly claim that a woman who died from their failure to follow their own policies is partially to blame. Especially since none of the city employees will face any repercussions for failing to do their job.

      • WTF

Apparently video shows that a heavy truck bounced it off, about 12 minutes before she parked and stepped into it.

      • UnCivilServant

12 minutes is hardly enough time to even know it needed to be put back.

      • WTF

I also don’t see how their policies come into play if a truck bounced the cover off about 12 minutes before the incident. They would have to be aware and have an opportunity to correct it. I guess lawyers could argue the covers shouldn’t be able to be disloged by heavy trucks?

      • sloopyinca

If they can bounce off that easily because a truck goes by, they might want to rethink how they’re secured.

      • Fourscore

Need more manhole cover monitors. Either electronically, camera or person. Best to have all three. If it saves 1 person’s life….

      • EvilSheldon

Something I didn’t know until just now – not all manhole covers are cast iron. Some of them are made out of fiberglass or other composites, and are much lighter (an 18″ round cast-iron manhole cover weighs about 250 pounds.)

Making manhole covers out of material light enough to be dislodged by a passing truck, seems unwise.

      • Threedoor

ES. I have one that’s fiberglass. But it’s on the cistern for my well system. And it’s screwed on.

You couldn’t use one on a street. Or anywhere you would even drive a lawn mower over it.

    • R C Dean

Did the city remove the cover, or was it liberated by a fine upstanding pyrsyn, perhaps one experiencing dehousedness?

      • Sensei

FTA – a large truck ran over it and dislodged it.

      • Not Adahn

Obviously, they need to ban large trucks in the city! Think of all the good paying, health-boosting porter jobs that will be created!

      • Chafed

The DSA will totally back that.

    • SDF-7

Seems more obvious to me that they’d have two variations of “no standing” to dismiss any lawsuit.

  5. rhywun

Not really following the Massie thing because too someone else’s local but I did hear he was supported by the Squad and various other commies?? What is up with that?

    • WTF

He kind of went off the rails after his wife died, developed a weird Epstein files obsession, and more or less opposed almost everything Trump/Republican. So the squad and other commies were doing the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” thing.

      • (((Jarflax

His comment in his concession speech was interesting “I would have come out sooner, but I had to call my opponent and concede, and it took a while to find Ed Gallrein in Tel Aviv”

I think the Epstein files obsession was part and parcel of the blame the Jews mindset that seems to have taken hold of a chunk of the less stable right. It is deeply depressing realizing how much of this there is.

      • EvilSheldon

A ‘weird Epstein files obsession’, like every single MAGA supporter had before Trump told them it was no big deal.

Oh, and he opposed everything Trump/Republican, like tariffs, massive spending bills, and invading Iran.

        Massie didn’t change. MAGA did.

      • DEG

So the squad and other commies were doing the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” thing.

        This.

It also conveniently ignores all the other endorsements he received, like from the National Association for Gun Rights (definitely not a commie org), Rand Paul (is he a commie now?), Lauren Boebert (has her problems but is not a commie), and more.

      • DEG

        Massie didn’t change. MAGA did.

        This too.

      • WTF

A ‘weird Epstein files obsession’, like every single MAGA supporter had before Trump told them it was no big deal.

Well yeah, it was stupid then and it’s stupid now. I generally like Massie, it’s just too bad he got caught up in that and apparently the “Jews control everything” madness.

      • Gdragon

“It also conveniently ignores all the other endorsements he received, like from the National Association for Gun Rights”

I don’t have the link handy but GOA endorsed him as well.

      • Ted S.

        How about both changed?

      • rhywun

A ‘weird Epstein files obsession’, like every single MAGA supporter had before Trump told them it was no big deal.

Whereupon the left immediately developed an Epstein files obsession of their own.

      • R C Dean

The Left has always been sure the Epstein files were full of evidence that Trump is a pedophile rapist.

To be fair, it’s surprising that during the years that the files were in the hands of the Deep State, they weren’t salted with such “evidence”.

      • Gdragon

As I said last night, the campaign against him called his new wife a left wing plant, said that he banged Boebert right after his wife died, produced an 11th hour accusation from a woman who seemed to be “suggesting” anything that she thought she could get away with suggesting but will almost certainly go away now that he is out of office. Not to mention the policy stuff where they constantly lied about his actual beliefs (he hates the Border Wall and the SAVE Act dontchaknow?) Is anyone really surprised that he was maybe feeling a little bit sore and angry after all of that?

I think a lot of people may have just looked at

      • juris imprudent

Opposed Trump when Trump reversed on his campaign promise on the Epstein stuff and Trump started stroking the neo-con warboner.

        Totally personal disloyalty.

      • Threedoor

        I’m with ES on this.

MAGA is just 80s Democrat lite with more spending.

      • The Last American Hero

I mean I respected the guy, then heard he tagged MAGA Barbie and wanted to give him a fist bump.

    • EvilSheldon

      Do you really believe them?

    • Threedoor

In my locals three Dems running as Rs got trounced in the primary, one which weaseled her way into a state house seat four years ago through knowing/blowing the governor and all the agricultural interests (socialists) when our central committee was replacing one they sent to prison. May that bitch never return.

  6. Nephilium

The reason for the delay on the Supreme Court cases is that the progressives were hoping one of their crazed assassins would be successful.

/I’m sure this is what some people actually believe

    • UnCivilServant

I saw speculation that the VRA ruling got delayed because the dissent was held back to try to make it too late for the maps to be adjusted before the midterms.

      • sloopyinca

That’s exactly what happened and a couple justices have already subtly said so.

      • WTF

Yes, and Roberts could put a stop to that, but he’s too much of a political coward.

      • R C Dean

Apparently, it’s just too much to set a deadline for opinions and to hold the Justices to it.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

“This is when you need your opinion in. After that date, nothing will be published. Are we clear?”

        Seems simple to me.

  7. rhywun

Had she been a bit more subtle, she’d have probably gotten a ton of money from the DNC.

What’s stopping them? Certainly not the antisemitism.

“It will also be a castration processing center for pedophiles, which will probably be most of the Zionists,”

    Just… wow.

    • EvilSheldon

Politicians do seems to be less shy these days, when it comes to demonstrating their psychopathy.

      • WTF

Because everyone just votes TEAM, regardless of any other factors.

      • EvilSheldon

Political parties should have been banned long ago.

      • R C Dean

        Stupid freedom of association.

      • EvilSheldon

Really, I’d be willing to deal with a bit less freedom of association, if it resulted in politicians being forced to campaign on their actual merits (or lack thereof.)

But then, I’ve always had an active fantasy life.

    • Chafed

      Totally not antisemitic.

  8. rhywun

This is gonna cost the city a bunch of money.

ConEdison, not the city. The latest I heard is there is video of a heavy truck ratting off the cover.

  9. Drake

I don’t think Massie changed at all. The propaganda against him just removed up after that Tucker interview he did a few years ago.

Still wouldn’t vote for omnibus bills packed with pork. Still trying to expose Epstein’s influence on our government like Trump promised. He’s still fighting against the Glyphosate immunity crap Trump snuck in.

It was nice having a good guy in Congress for a while.

    • Certified Public Asshat

      I mean:

Pro-Israel Americans are proud to help defeat anti-Israel candidates!Being pro-Israel is good policy and good politics! https://t.co/TtBhf7y7TW— AIPAC 🇺🇸🇮🇱 (@AIPAC) May 20, 2026

      • EvilSheldon

So…I’m generally well-disposed towards Jews, and I find Israel a preferable nation-state compared to any of the other ones in the region.

But I’d love for someone to explain to me, in 25 words or less, how being pro-Israel is ‘good policy’ for me.

      • Drake

Having a policy of no foreign aid while we’re $40 trillion in debt is somehow anti-Israel. I’d like that explained too.

    • RAHeinlein

“still trying to expose Epstein”??? – that was a recent Massie hobby horse and set-up to maximize damage to Trump and his agenda. The pedo-protection crap was absurd and certainly not Libertarian in any sense.

Glyphosate immunity is good policy – we are one lawsuit away from a de facto ban via litigation which would decimate US farming. Massie knew that and was also aware that there are a lot of low information MAGA/MAHA who would jump-on the anti-glyphosate band-wagon.

      • Gustave Lytton

It wasn’t Massey that promised to release all of the Epstein files and said they would/did and then didn’t, then stalled releasing any, tried to block legislative action compelling it, then slow walked when forced to, and then redacted as much as possible. Trump camp has lied about the extent of his involvement in Epstein and has been shown both publicly and privately to be personally pissed off about the continuing Epstein affair.

Is it Trump personally? Is it him covering for friends? Is it the deep state twisting his arm? Dunno, but something is off about the whole thing. No prosecutions still for all those women trafficked and names slipping out here and there.

    • Threedoor

The glyphosphate nonsense did piss me off.

      I forgot about that one.

A jury found it causes cancer.

      A jury.

      Let that sink in.

      • Threedoor

        Hell

        I’ve drank the stuff.

        It’s fine.

Tastes like crap though but that’s likely the surfactants in the flavor I drank.

    • Homple

Good guy but not very effective. He said many things I agree with , but nothing came of the verbiage. A voice crying in the wilderness is still in the wilderness.

  10. rhywun

Until recently, I believed it was the latter, but I’m starting to think that was an incorrect assessment.

The media are definitely running with the “teen takeovers”. Given that it’s mostly social-media driven I suspect they are correct that it’s increasing. Plus the refusal to punish them which just encourages more of it.

    • WTF

Plus the refusal to punish them which just encourages more of it.

It would be unmutual to punish them as they are overwhelmingly a certain protected demographic.

  11. Sensei

This is gonna cost the city a bunch of money. I wonder how fast the mayor will try to seize the settlement from her family by calling them greedy millionaires.

I don’t understand why she parked or chose to get out of her car at that location. Doesn’t change anything, but there is some contributory negligence.

    • R C Dean

I gather she parked right in front of Cartier, so presumably that’s where she was going. The total disregard for “No Parking” signs seems on-brand for NYC.

      • Sensei

      • sloopyinca

Jesus. Don’t kids pitch quarters anymore? If you’re gonna be doing a leisure activity among friends, you may as well include a gambling component.

      • UnCivilServant

Sloopy, you’re going to have to describe the activity you’re asking about. I’ve never heard of it.

It certainly wasn’t something we did.

      • Ownbestenemy

We used to do a coin flip gambling game in class. First player flips coin and allows to fall to ground. Second player must match with their coin flip to win, otherwise lose.

It was always a double or nothing game until you beat the other player when they ran out of quarters to play with.

      • Gender Traitor

The only game I (fuzzily) recall involving quarters consisted of trying to bounce them into vessels of beer. Rarely played in class

My wife found the origional Klutz book at goodwill too.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

      This is true.

My kid is in a hacky sack phase. When he was pitching (in a baseball game) last Saturday, he went out between innings to warm up. His catcher had just hit so he was getting back in his catchers gear, so my kid was waiting in the mound, hacky sacking away with the baseball.

The moms thought it was hilarious.

    Random thought:

The TV show “Happy Days” was a nostalgia-fest made about 20 years after the time period it was depicting. The equivalent today would be a nostalgia-fest about the mid-00s. Which nobody is particularly nostalgic for. I wonder what dynamics made a show about the ‘50s hugely popular twenty years later, but a show about the ‘00s twenty years later a complete non-starter.

    • UnCivilServant

The world from the year 2000 on has been increasingly bland outside the front door. There’s been an intense hatred of color and fun.

      • The Other Kevin

I saw a Tweet or something claiming that since about 2004, things have basically stagnated and as you say, it’s all been bland.

      • SDF-7

Right around the takeoff time for social media and smartphones… my first gut instinct is too much homogenization of the national/global culture.

      • Threedoor

All cars must be silver, white, or black.

        Two tone is not allowed.

    • Sensei

Partly because entertainment choices were so much more limited.

The show had nostalgia appeal to adults and young adults to appeal to their children. Right now entertainment is so much more narrow. I’m old enough that I watched both the final MASH and the final Seinfeld. Regular TV shows don’t draw audiences like those anymore. Hence the rise of insane costs for the rights to sporting events.

      • WTF

Those shows were so universally popular, that I actually watched the MASH finale in a biker bar I used to hang out in because it was on the bar TVs because everyone wanted to see it.

    • Gdragon

Didn’t “American Graffiti” provide the lube for “Happy Days”? Although that doesn’t really alter your general question much because then we are left to wonder why “AG” clicked with an audience.

      • SDF-7

I thought it was pretty clear — teenagers who grew up in the time period now with disposable incomes, just got kids out of the house (because this is before the “wait until you’re 40 to have kids” timeframe) so extra freetime and income, plus facing midlife crises and mortality — so looking back fondly on yesteryear when they were young and carefree as folks are wont to do.

Why it doesn’t happen now is almost certainly tied to the delayed adulting post GenX, I expect.

    • Gdragon

There have been lots of recent sitcoms whose appeal seemed to be based almost entirely on nostalgia. “The Goldbergs”, “Fresh Off the Boat” , “Young Sheldon” come to mind immediately. If you were looking to relive the 80s and 90s there were plenty of options not too long ago. People will scratch their itch for the 2000s at some point, that point just hasn’t arrived yet.

    • SDF-7

Just wait for the 2040 lockdown sitcoms… “Stuck at Home!”… “How I Skyped Your Mother…”… “Ow, my balls!”

I would say a large part of it was the cultural homogenization that came with the internet. Now a trend is delivered to everyone’s feed at about the same time, and it’s wide spread.

Mentioned this morning in last eve’s links, Carmel and Fishers have been ‘voted’ top ranked ‘places to live.’ I’m not sure if the ’roundabout capital of the US’ did it, or if the general affluence of the area influenced the needle. (Carmel, was No. 1, Fishers was No. 2, and Noblesville was No. 18.) ‘My’ Walmart is in Fishers and currently at Carmel’s Meijer. (More on that next Tues!)

“[Carmel] is one of the wealthiest cities per capita in the United States, with an average Median household income of $134,603.” Yeah. That helps lots. I feel so out of sorts in this fancy-land. There was *a* murder in (IIRC) Fishers this year, but none last year. The county keeps the riff-raff out, or the riff-raff have learned to not play their games around here.

It’s a really nice community. (Being able to afford it helps.) Living 100ft from the Monon Trail is beyond lovely. Good to see my parents, never wealthy, retired exceptionally well. (Mom was a public teacher and (by the end) made more than Dad at the Evansville Courier.)

“What you thought you could depend on you no longer have,” said Benjamin, a retired 3M executive from Minnesota who has an autoimmune disease.

Which could be arthritis that more than a few older people have. Did you know that if you buy an annuity from an insurance company that you might want to ascertain their claims paying ability? You may also want to check what the maximum amount of a state’s guarantee fund will pay in the event of insolvency.

She paid an insurance company $99,000 to generate retirement income for life. Then it collapsed.

Benjamin wasn’t going to make it if that annuity was her retirement plan anyway, $99k in an annuity isn’t producing much income.

      • Sensei

        No, it won’t.

In addition to working in financial services I’m going through this now planning for my own retirement. I can essentially buy them for very, very low cost and there is still a question if I want to do so. Otherwise I take lump sums. Given my cost and that I will have other retirement assets I’m inclined to annuitize, but it’s not at all simple. Even at my cost the income generated on the annuities will likely be significantly less than I could earn if I simply invested the same amounts.

The thing most salespeople won’t discuss with you is inflation. There are policies where you can get an inflation rider, but that will make the payments even smaller in the initial years.

What’s a good investment plan to set up for my kids?

We’re thinking 20-30 to start each and 10k per year after that.

      • Sensei

I have to be careful due to employment.

For education you can look into 529s. After that you have to think qualified versus non-qualified. Qualified generally being an IRA, but you need earnings to make IRA contributions.

You can investigate fee only planners. My experience some attorneys and some accountants are good, but that’s not a given. Mind you not all fee only planners are decent either, but that’s their only business.

      • Threedoor

We dont want to do 529s and lock our kids in the education trap we fell into. Which wasted a decade of our lives.

We want them to have money earlier in life and to have a good leg up.

By the time they are working we willlikely be retired and not able to contribute much if anything for them.

        8 and 4 respectively.

      • Threedoor

        I’m coming into this blind.

I don’t even know what the terminology is.

Qualified vs not. Don’t know what that means.

      • Sensei

Keep in mind you can repurpose the cash in a 529 if you don’t use it for education. You’ll have the tax hit, but that’s no different than if you put it an investment account of some kind.

Downside would be fewer investment choices within the 529.

      • Threedoor

I did not know that about the 529.

        Thanks. I’ll look into it.

      • Sensei

        Qualified means retirement designated.

You’ve got a choice of either trying to educate yourself which is very doable, but will be slow and you have to avoid the crazies or finding yourself a fee only planner who can explain all of this.

A proper fee only plan is completely portable and they aren’t crazy expensive. You’ve got the added issue of having your own business which is another reason to consider it.

      • Threedoor

Any clue on the ‘Trump’ accounts, if they are going to be a thing or not and if there is anything specific on them?

      • Threedoor

Looks like the rollover into the Roth is capped at $35,000. Additional 10% hit on earnings otherwise.

        That’s a big hit.

      • Sensei

        That’s the beneficiary.

You as the owner of the 529 can take the money and pay taxes on it. It’s never really your kids’ money. At that point you and your wife could gift it back in $20k chunks, hypothetically.

      • Threedoor

That makes the 529 sound better.

On that fun side, just got a paper with an 8th grader talking about how he couldn’t perform the school song too well cuz he got drunk the night before. It’s well-written and out of nowhere. I’ve had a few funny (well-written) stories including the kids shooting some people, five guys in one account, showing at least some personality. The over-the-top fictitious ones are enjoyable. The non-answers are also enjoyable, particularly when the kid explains why he don’t give a fuck and why they’re not writing any more.

We were laughing about that last night. Then we went down the rabbit hole of all the dipshit things people did with cars at one particular local lake. In defense of freedom

Police officers who came under attack by rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking to halt President Donald Trump’s plan to set up a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate victims of “weaponization” and “lawfare.”

In the new lawsuit, former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn and Metropolitan Police Department Officer Daniel Hodges contend that Trump intends to use the massive bankroll to pay people who organized and participated in the riot.

“Dunn and Hodges did not back down on January 6. Instead, they held the line to defend democracy and the rule of law. They bring this case to do so once again,” the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit, filed in federal district court in Washington, argues that the fund violates the 14th Amendment’s prohibition on use of federal money to “pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States.”

Now where will I go to get a gay escort in DC?

It’s not like Miss Graham has a good stable of bois.

Isn’t Robby Soave based out of DC now?

Stellantis and JLR to Explore Collaboration Synergies for Product Development in the U.S.

Given all the talk about overwhelming demand for “cheap” EVs I’m surprised Stellantis isn’t bringing the electric R5 over. Theycould call it a Plymouth Scamp. They could probably get it on the showroom floor for $60k.

    • Sensei

It’s so niche I just don’t see it. You could buy a Model 3 performance which will have better range and similar (although marginally lesser) performance.

I actually like the R5, however.

    Speaking of Jaguar

Chris Harris and his pals got invited to the reveal of the new Jaguar EV. Interesting.

    Consensus: it doesn’t completely suck.

In a statement of just six words, giving no indication of the reason for his abrupt departure, Britain’s Foreign Office said simply: “James Roscoe has left his post.”

Cohutta GA does not need a police department. A ‘town’ that small should not be incorporated. It’s not a town.

Are you going to follow industry standard building practices?
Is this going to cost the taxpayers anything?

Under the terms of the non-binding MOU, Stellantis and JLR will explore collaboration opportunities to create synergies across product and technology development, leveraging the companies’ complementary strengths to create value for both organizations.

“By working with partners to explore synergies in areas such as product and technology development, we can create meaningful benefits for both sides while remaining focused on delivering the products and experiences our customers love,” said Antonio Filosa, Chief Executive Officer of Stellantis.

That would be a great place for one. Colorado is not known for great gas stations with good bathrooms. Every time IU go through there I have to wait in line to pee with at least ten other people due to the tiny one stall restrooms at gas stations.

Hear me out. If you put electrified rails on the track that power the cars, you wouldn’t have to worry about the batteries all the time and you’d just focus on the race.
Then, to keep cars from sliding off the electrified rails, you could make a groove in the track, where a tab from the car would fit to guide the car….
Oh wait, I reinvented slot car racing.

Going back to my comment the other day about how F1 laughs at practical constraints: the guy in that video talks about how F1 needs to abandon electrons in favor of “zero carbon” “renewable” fuels. I don’t get the fetish for the imaginary carbon menace, but as far as budgetary considerations, go, a million dollars per year for custom witches’ brew fuel is nothing. They’ll spend five times that or more reprofiling a two inch section of the edge of the underwing.

If it had been approved by voters, Measure 120 would have increased Oregon’s gas tax by six cents per gallon, raise vehicle title and registration fees, and temporarily increase the statewide payroll tax used to support public transit systems.

Lawmakers approved the package during a special legislative session last fall, arguing the state needed new revenue to avoid deep cuts at the Oregon Department of Transportation and keep up with rising maintenance costs.

Stupid voters, don’t they want well paid union highway workers leaning on those shovels?
