But for my money, there is too much tedious, mealymouthed chaff obscuring what should be her larger point. So let me make this clear to all of the DSA-backed candidates making waves in congressional and gubernatorial races this cycle (which, for my money, is one of the most exciting things to happen in politics during my lifetime). When sitting down for an interview with a cable-news pundit or a taciturn newspaper journalist, if they ask if you still believe in the tiresome, unpopular, and ultimately peripheral positions you took in the white heat of 2020, you can just say no. One word: no. That’s it! That’s all you need to do. If you are feeling generous, you can fill it out with some extra context. Perhaps “Not anymore” or “No, and here’s why.” But really, just “No” suffices. This is especially useful when deployed to shut down a line of questioning that is completely ancillary to your actual platform—inquiries designed to reveal oneself as a pinko loony, rather than someone fluent in the material causes that have undergirded a successful campaign and reinvigorated the DSA as a legitimate organizational force. “No, I don’t think Thanksgiving should be abolished, but let me tell you more about how groceries should be cheaper.” Done!

The Jason Arday story is becoming a national scandal. What began as a vaguely amusing parable of our times, a schadenfreude-filled exposé of the left’s remarkable gullibility, has now morphed into something far more sinister. For now we learn that Scotland Yard attempted to silence a journalist who tried to expose Arday’s claims. In fact, they spent four months investigating him.
Even by the appallingly low standards of the Met, it is a startling revelation. When Jack Grove, a reporter for Times Higher Education, emailed Arday a series of questions about his academic record, officers told him to stop contacting the professor because his mental health had been affected. Arday also hired the law firm Carter-Ruck (who don’t come cheap), who claimed Grove’s ‘apparent attack’ on their client ‘may be… racially motivated’
Let’s be really clear about what this means. The UK’s biggest police force attempted to shut down a journalistic investigation, apparently because the man at the centre of it played the race card. As Grove himself states, ‘I was just doing my job. Journalists should be free to ask questions of anyone, even star professors.’
If you haven’t been following this, it’s just amazing. If you can used all these facts to write a novel about the abject state of academia, critics would call it farcical in the extreme.
So the message is still “Plagarism is okay if they’re not white.”
I mean, what credible academic institution has high expectations of melanated people?

I took one communications class filled with journalism students. The professor graded on a curve. They hated the non-journos throwing the curve.

When it comes to society, there is always a prevailing belief system and I think if you look back through history (for all the talk about patriarchy), women have very often if not almost always been the ones who played a critical role in passing down beliefs to future generations. Patriarchy couldn’t have existed and thrived for so long without female cooperation, but that’s another subject. Point is when Christianity was the central force in society, they were the ones who became the most puritanical and pushed for rigid adherence.
When you have the Marxist claptrap dropped over a consumer culture, you get women like we have today. They are hardwired to weed out the non-believers who disrupt the order of things. That doesn’t mean *all* women, but it is a huge majority of them who will always rely on their natural instincts over anything resembling real reason.

I think it’s probably a little of both. Despite our year zero cultural bullshit we still haven’t shaken off a quarter million years of evolutionary psychology, so many women still retain nurturing instincts, which is going to push them towards the soft-heart/mush-brain side of the spectrum on certain issues.
I think you can see how “nurturing” and generous a woman is when she’s with a dude who has kids with another woman. You’ll see how quickly they jump to guarding the resources spent on her and her kids.

States have gotten really aggressive with that shit. I removed the organ donor status from my driver’s license years ago for that very reason. Lots of stories of people being declared brain dead when it was questionable, families being pressured to sign off on harvesting organs, etc.

If the vast majority of your young party members are beccoming increasingly radicalized, it kind of makes it hard to find qualified and electable candidates who won’t be radical at some point. It’s been noted for years now that the Democrats really don’t have a bench. There’s very little up and coming “talent” or prospects for higher office. Kamala and Hakeem Jefferies were put forward because of their race and gender disrespectfully, but also because there really weren’t many real viable options anyway.
They actually do need these people to regain power as a party because you can’t win continue to ignore the vast majority of under 40 voters forever.

I like the sweet bean paste (anko in JPN), but the usual texture is to leave some bean “skin” in the mix which makes for a bit an acquired taste.
I expect Evan was protesting the texture of the rice portion, which is really the part I miss. So I find Evan’s reaction strange. Were it gooeyer, it’d be forgettable and not worth a second bite.

The case was marked sensitive, which is generally done to keep a case off the books from other agents, the official said. The agents who opened the case said they believe it was going to be the least intrusive method to address a serious national security risk.
Oxferd Comma was eventually rolled into Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s larger probe into Mr. Trump, the official said, and was later found not to have any merit when the rest of the Mueller investigation was closed down.
